Meet Axel!
Meet Axel, everybody! Axel is an approximately one year old, 45 lb. male Rough Collie. He is mostly blind, and has trace white factoring. He gets around well (it took him only a few minutes to 'map out' the foster director's TV room), and in doing zoomies outdoors in bright lighting, Axel avoids trees, so there's possibly some ability to see light/dark. He is an absolute snuggle bug, and loves hugs and kisses. Axel is super eager to please - he learned 'sit' in five minutes! He has been fine around cats, and loves playing with the foster director's collie (see video, he is the smaller of the two collies). A visit to the vet on Saturday showed him to be in excellent health, except for his vision. CRLNENY is pursuing a consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist.
Axel is going to need a special furever home due to his disability. Optimal home would be a walk-out exit to a fenced backyard, without stairs. Given his blindness, a household with understanding middle school-age children or above would be best. If you think YOU could be his permanent foster*, email [email protected]

We thought you might enjoy this clip of Sterling taken this morning by mom Karen. He is the one we brought up from Kentucky and is a double dilute merle. CRLNE is pleased to announce that Sterling has arrived! Sterling is a two-year-old double dilute merle who is blind but does have some hearing. As is often the case, our members and friends make us aware of collies in need (thank you, Tracey F!). He will be permanently fostered by Karen M who was mom to Winn-Dixie. You may recall that Winn-Dixie was mom to the surprise litter of the Eight is Enough pups in 2019. A permanent foster home designation means that Sterling will live his life with Karen and her collie Jolie. CRLNE will support the veterinary costs, medications (if needed), grooming and dog food for the remainder of his life.
We wish to extend huge thanks to Erin at the Kay Turpin Animal Rescue Fund for their partnership. They wanted someone to be identified as his new mom; they didn't just want him going off to a rescue without doing their homework about Karen and us. We were good with this, and we knew just the person for the job. Karen previously had a blind collie and has a big heart. She did not hesitate to say 'yes!' She then submitted a formal application. (It should be noted that she was not the only applicant they had for Sterling.) Karen had a fence installed for Sterling to keep him safe. We talked to both Erin and Sterling's foster dad Stephen several times over the number of weeks before he began his journey to New England.
Sterling had a long trip from Kentucky to get to us. We arranged an executive transport for him, and they did a wonderful job working with us. We want to give a shout out to Barry at Precious Pet Transport Service.
Today is one of those feel good moments in rescue!
Meant to get this up yesterday but am puppy sitting Sadie while her momma is away on a prescheduled vacation. She’s such a good girl, but she has her puppy moments. The little missy likes coffee. Caught her drinking out of the coffee cup placed on the side table. She is a complete love bug. ❤️
This post is being made to raise funds for little Sadie’s surgery next week in NJ.
This collie was given to us by a collie club. We believe it came from someone in the Hartford/Springfield Collie Club and wish to acknowledge that. The note attached is so sweet that we kept it. This is a large porcelain collie and is in near perfect condition. It has a very small white dot on the front (pls see pics). It is not a chip. There are no marks or names of any sort on it. It’s got a nice weight to it.
It is 8 inches tall from bottom to ear.
It is 11 inches across from tail to nose.
It is 4 inches wide from side to side.
The auction will run until Sunday evening, Sept 29th (tomorrow) at 9 pm. Shipping will be $15. Bidding will begin at $50. Incremental bids should be $5 or more above the previous one. The moderator will step in from time to time throughout the auction to keep it on track.

Update on Sadie:
Sadie is a 5 mo old merle from a puppy mill down south destined to be sold to a pet store. The pet store rejected her because she has a severe heart murmur. A kind veterinarian in CT does rescue work and interceded. She contacted us, and we said yes without hesitation. She will have her surgery next Wednesday in NJ to repair her PDA and should make a full recovery. Her surgery is expected to cost $7,500, and we have raised $1,500 to date (thank you). Should you wish to donate to her surgery, we have a special link on our website home page at CRLNE.org. We will also hold 2 auctions this weekend to benefit Sadie. This video was taken this morning. Meet Atlas
UPDATE: We've found a foster placement for Atlas! Many thanks to all the people who reached out to us!
Meet Atlas! Those of you who were at the picnic probably remember him... Atlas is a very big, tall collie! He likes bringing you his toys and playing tug/fetch, behind the ear scritches, being next to you/on top of you/leaning on you (very much collie behavior!), chasing and being chased by other dogs, taking your shoes/socks/loose laundry, and golf balls... they can entertain him around the house for hours! He also likes belly rubs, kissing your face to say hello in the morning, and chewing on bones (specifically all natural rawhide).
He is naturally AMAZING off leash (he really enjoys spending time with his humans and being near them). He gets along easily with other dogs (in the foster home as well as at the collie picnic). He always “checks back in” with his human by looking back during off leash walks (can make recall training and enforcement a lot easier), so he's definitely keyed into YOU!
Atlas is a great guy, but in his current placement, one of the foster's dogs does not like Atlas (Atlas does NOT fight back), so we need to move him. Could you open your home and heart to Atlas? Let us know... email [email protected]
Teddy!
Meet Teddy! Teddy is coming to us from a 37-dog hoarding situation in Connecticut. Teddy is on the small side, so small that he was initially mistaken for a sheltie (vet assures us he is a Rough Collie, though!). We're looking for a foster home for Teddy, but we don't know many of the usual things about him, precisely because he's from a hoarding situation. We do know he's between two and four years of age, he's neutered, and has had dental work done (happened today). We're assuming he gets along with other dogs, given his previous situation, but beyond that we cannot say for sure. Can you open your heart and home up to Teddy? Email [email protected]
Help Simba!
Hey, it's Simba again! We now URGENTLY need a foster home for Simba! Simba is a big snuggle, loves to go on walks and swim in the lake. He enjoys playing with a ball and being intellectually active doing puzzles, learning new tricks or chewing a bone. He has a big smile, is great in the car, and will give you the biggest happy ear rub moan you’ve ever heard! He also loves cats, sometimes more than they love him back ;)
There are so many things to love about Simba (including his goofy toothed smile) he just needs someone patient to help him learn “how to dog” and he will return the favor in snuggles and LOTS of kisses.
Simba needs a foster without other dogs and without children to be his bestest... please let us know if you can find space in your heart (and home!) for Simba! [email protected]

Simba is a seven-year-old Rough Collie who needs to be in a place with no other dogs, and no children. On the other hand, Simba is a big snuggle, loves to go on walks, and “swim” in the lake. He enjoys playing with a ball and being intellectually active doing puzzles, learning new tricks or chewing a bone. He has a big smile, is great in the car, and will give you the biggest happy ear rub moan you’ve ever heard! He also loves cats, sometimes more than they love him back 🙂

Simba has been with a temporary foster for assessment, and now that we have a solid assessment on what he needs we'd like to move him to a regular foster placement, foster-to-adopt, or adoption.

We are kicking off a series of online pop-up auctions to generate funds for little Sadie’s surgery which will be a pricey one. We are committed to doing so in order for her to live a long and full life.
We are always grateful when we receive collie figurines and other collie materials from various sources. This one came from the Hartford/Springfield Collie Club. This lovely table is made of wood (possibly oak?) and can be opened and used as a table and can be closed when not being used. The table measures 22 inches tall and 12 inches wide. It is one of a kind table and has no marks or scratches on the wood. The collie face is spectacular.
The auction will run until Sunday evening, Aug 25 at 8 pm. Shipping will be $25. There will be NO shipping costs if the winner attends our annual picnic on 9/7 in Stratham NH. We are happy to bring it to the picnic for pick up. The moderator will step in from time to time throughout the auction to keep it on track.
