Others were more reluctant.

What a wild and busy day we had yesterday!
Two intakes that couldn’t be any more different!
🐸 🦫

First up, we have two surrendered Amazon Milk Frogs, one of which has a pr*****ed a**s we are working on. 🐸
The other is a juvenile beaver, found by a very sweet couple who drove her all the way to Athens from Cu***ng. She has a severe upper respiratory infection we are working to treat. Poor thing wandered up after being displaced by land clearing nearby.
Hoping and praying our new intakes make a strong and speedy recovery!

Thankyou to everyone who donates time, money and prayers to help us keep Camp Critter up and running. We COULD NOT do it without you. 😊❤️

Thankyou to the kind lady from Bethlehem for rescuing and transporting this injured juvenile chipmunk to us, last night.
This sweet chippie was cat caught and has some head trauma.
We are doing anti inflammatory drugs as well as antibiotics to help fight off any infections and neurological damage.
She is now stable and loving the warmth from the incubator.
Stay strong little chippie. 🐿️ 💕

Those that know me, know I’m not a fan of talking bad about anyone.
I do my best to respect everyone regardless of their beliefs and what they may have to say about me.
However, once my nonprofit that I have worked SO hard for, gets dragged into it- I will address it.
*WARNING- SOME PHOTOS MAY BE HARD TO SEE*

In November of 2022, I received a local call from Amanda Farmer (Aka- Mandy Poole & Mandy’s Baby Bunnies) asking for help placing over 40 rabbits she had possession of.
I am NOT a domestic rescue, but between the off season for wildlife, and her desperate plea- I caved.
My cousin and I scheduled an immediate trip over to meet her, and see just how many rabbits there were. We provided hay and food she said she could not afford. (Again, no judgement)
What I was met with, were the most deplorable conditions I have ever witnessed in person. My only goal at this point- was to get them all out.
We came home and developed a massive plan in record time to pull these innocent animals from the hell they were living in.
Despite this, I proceeded with respect and never once named nor shamed her. I never posted photos from the horrid conditions.
With the help of my cousin, my husband, Carol Roach, and Kerry Ervin at Hand Me Down Zoo, we managed to pull all 44 rabbits and they were LEGALLY surrendered to Kerry who is USDA licensed.
36 of which, were then transferred to us here at Camp Critter, for medical care.
We pulled all 44 and raised over $4500 to spay/neuter, feed, house and vet them. Several needed specialized care from injuries, severe fungal infections, urine burns that resulted in sores, and permanent damage such as severed toes and debilitating arthritis. One female had such progressed cancer ,we chose to humanely euthanize her, to end her suffering.

Mrs. Farmer has advertised herself for years (and is currently doing so) as a licensed breeder, which we know to not be true. In fact, she came to Oglethorpe county partially to evade Animal Control in Barrow County. (Oglethorpe has no Animal Control)

Since then (2 years), Mrs. Farmer has had a personal vendetta against those that helped with the rabbit rescue. She has threatened one individuals family, she has spoken badly about me (Nikki), to anyone who will listen. She states her rabbits were ‘stolen’ by me and then ‘abused’. This is all after she was the one who called me and stated she could not afford to feed them and needed them gone as quickly as possible. Mrs. Farmer, has now resorted to slandering Camp Critter. Specifically pertaining to our care of animals and creating doubt about donations to the nonprofit.

Mrs. Farmer, I will not stand for your disgusting attempt at disparaging the rescue I have worked SO VERY HARD to build and maintain.
Your claims are not only ridiculous but an outright ignominy, especially coming from you.
If this continues, I will be forced to seek legal action.

Local Oglethorpe residents and those afar, I beg of you- DO NOT SUPPORT her illegal, horrid breeding program.
If you are looking for a pet rabbit, I know of PLENTY that NEED loving homes. Please reach out and I will put you in touch. 🐇🐰

Our oldest late season juvenile raccoon, Rhett, loves to explore the outdoors! He especially loved finding and smelling the mint I have planted.
Taking him outside to venture and experience nature will help him understand this is where he is supposed to live and he is indeed, a wild animal.
Raising him this season has been extra special, as he came to us months ago as a tiny newborn baby that was found after land being developed in Alpharetta, was cleared. I’m very proud of how far he has come and it will be very bittersweet when it is time for release. 🦝 💕

Our oldest batch of flying squirrels (7) are growing big and love chewing on deer antlers!!
Deer antlers not only help keep their teeth worn down, but also provides an excellent natural source of calcium that is needed to help strengthen their tiny fragile bones! 💕

Happy, beautiful fawns that will soon be ready to release!!
This is the last round of fawns, some of which are late season babies and are still very small. You can also see that many have already lost their spots or are in the process of losing them. This happens as the weather shifts to cooler temps and they start growing their winter coats.
Very bittersweet! 🥹💕

Hoping everyone made it thru the storms okay!!! Here at Camp Critter we did extremely well and I’m beyond so thankful for it! 🙌
Power blinked out a few times in the early morning, but nothing bad. Which had me very nervous as I still have many flying squirrels still on low heat in incubators.
We lost one canopy to the storm, and even then, it was the canvas top, which is replaceable! ❤️
Chickens, pigs, turtles and deer are all water logged but everyone is safe and accounted for! So much to be thankful for! 🐓 🐷 🐢 🦌 💕
Praying for those not as fortune as us in the aftermath of Helene! 🙏
Despite the shut down for intakes, we are doing our best to make extra emergency space for the many phone calls that are already coming in!
Thankyou so much for you continued love, support and prayers from you-our people and for our AMAZING village that helped us prepare and be ready for wild events such as these. 💗

Thankful for my vet tech friends that can come and help restrain animals while we take care of treatments here at our facility! (My husband gets squirmy about this 😂😂)
With the help of Buttons Johnson last week, we were able to get 5 sutures into this baby raccoons little leg, to assist with healing!
Having a stocked facility and the capability to suture not only keeps vet visit costs to a minimum, but also helps me keep my skills sharp, so I very much enjoy these cases! 😊💕

Baby raccoon is doing fantastic and healing like a champ! 💗

This season has been a wild one.
This year, I wasn’t under any stress to study for an exam to obtain any licenses, nor concerned about expanding our facilities.
We began the season with two fully operational buildings and I’m beyond thankful and proud of the space they provide us. MANY lives have been saved just this season alone, with access to these two buildings.
We hit the ground running this season and all of you supported us in doing so with…donations, fundraisers and tons of wishlist love. ❤️
It is more than appreciated and is the ultimate driving force in helping us do what we do. I’m very sorry for not acknowledging that more often, as it is very easy to get overwhelmed with what all I do and that is very much the case this season.

This season has taught me that I have limits. I have learned that regardless of my best efforts and wishes, I am only one person (with an amazing village!) yet, not capable of 100% everything. My passion for wildlife leaves me with a desire to help them in any way I can and I will continue to do so. However, next season will come with some changes on species limits and needing more structured volunteer program with volunteers able to come help with the good, the bad, and the ugly.

So far this summer we have released 21 raccoons, 12 opossums, 13 skunkies, 8 turtles, 5 flying squirrels and I’m sure others I’m forgetting. 😅
Still in care we have over 40 grey squirrels, 7 flying squirrels and two baby raccoons.
Over 20 fawns will also be releasing soon!

I’m beyond apologetic I must remained shut down for all intakes until further notice as my days are filled with nothing but alternatibly feeding the species in care. As soon as one eats and finishes it is time for another to do so.
This is on top of my two children (and husband) whom I’m beyond thankful for their understanding and shared love of what I do.
I’ve also been battling a bad allergic reaction to any and all wildlife species (not just deer this year) that has had my face swollen and blisters covering my hands. (Thank goodness for steroids!)
We hope to be open again to intakes in the coming wks as the squirrels grow and become less reliant on me.

Thankyou for your continued support, love and understanding. We could not do this without it. 💕

💗If you would like to help with an immediate need- we desperately need laundry detergent and Zoologic formula from our Amazon wishlist.💗

In order to maintain quality care to the influx of squirrels that have come in this week, we are shutting down for any further intakes.
After today’s intakes already, We have over 40 grey squirrels!!!

The 5 flyers are doing excellent and growing! The eldest even opening their eyes this wkend!!!
And a new baby raccoon, brought from Conyers with a severe laceration on his front leg. Eyes have only been open for a few days. 😊💕

We hope to reopen for intakes soon, as squirrels grow and require less milk and transition to solids!
Thankyou for understanding!! 💕
