Glitter Time and Ellen update!!!

I’m so happy to share this with all of you!
They competed in the RRP (retired race horse project) earlier this month in Kentucky. Coming in 4th. They had the time of their lives, with a smile on both of their faces! 😉

Everyone is so proud of you two and so happy you t two are together!!
Congratulations Glitter and Ellen! To many more accomplishments and life long partnership!

This is a true testament of how horses are trained on the track. When they have a great start, they become great on and off the track.
We are so thankful and grateful for all of the hard work from the owners, trainers and riders who have been lucky enough to work with the amazing Glitter Time, on and off the track, especially you, Ellen!

Glitter and Ellen update!

“We are days out from arrival in Kentucky! Glitter was bumped up to 2’6” course this past weekend at the Fences over Bee Cave show, and she ribboned in every class in a division of ~15 entries! Including a blue in eq on the flat!!!!”

We are so very PROUD of this team! We all will be rooting for you two!

Ellen and Glitter have been SUPER busy and doing great things together! We love to see the bond between them and how far they’ve come! Absolutely incredible!
Here’s what Ellen and Glitter have been up to and what their future plans are coming up the next few months!

“Glitter is officially entered in show hunters and field hunters disciplines in the TB makeover!
This past weekend Glitter and I went to Katy for a GHHJA show at Great Southwest Equestrian Center. She trailered solo and was stalled by herself but handled it super well.
She really enjoyed having a stall guard so she could hang out with her people in the aisle way!
We rode in the schooling hunter and green as grass divisions and placed nicely, even getting a 2nd place behind a lovely pro rider that I highly respect.
Our goals change with each show: back in May, the goal was just to get over each jump. In July, the goal was to rate her speed and slow it down a bit. In Aug, the goal was lead changes, getting even distances to jumps, and keeping a consistent pace. She eats up those goals way faster than I expect her too.
The heat has put a damper on shows and off property ventures, but we have adapted by riding at home early early morning (think butt in saddle at 6 am) and trailer at night or early morning when going off property.
I can't believe how far she's come already, but we still have a lot of work to do! We've got cross country schooling this next weekend, 2-3 horse shows in September, and foxhunting season starts towards the end of September. Glitter hasn't shown me that it's too much on her, but if she tells me it's too much then she'll have a break built in before we head to Kentucky Oct 7th.”

Whose ready for a Glitter Time update?!
Glitter and Ellen made it to the CTHJA show a couple of weeks ago!
This was Glitters second “big girl” show. No ribbons this go round but that’s okay, It’s all about the experience!
Ellen said that Glitter is no longer wiggly to the jumps but now a heat seeking middle towards them! She has focused on eating her canter and making a few bit changes that has seemed to make Glitter that much happier!
These two are such a great team and we’re super excited for Kentucky!
We will all be rooting you on! ✨✨

Ellen and Glitter went on a trail ride and encountered so much!
Glitter, being the incredible mare she is, was super minded and took everything in stride.
Here’s what Ellen had to say about their ride!

“Glitter went on her second trail ride at Garey Park in Georgetown, where she encountered an off leash dog running right towards our small group (luckily with good recall by its owners), a crying baby in a stroller, and a man opening a metallic umbrella ALL at the same time. Our small group of three horses/riders handled it as well as we could, one horse was keyed up a bit, but Glitter stood still on a loose rein taking in her surroundings. She’s figured out water crossings and water, and we walked probably half a mile up the river while IN the river. I can’t be happier with her!”

Take a ride on Glitter Time!

Ellen and Glitter enjoyed an incredible XC Schooling. Glitter is so easy minded and super willing! What an incredible team!
Here’s what Ellen had to say about their time XC schooling! 🤍

“Glitter Time went off property cross country schooling for the first time on the Fourth of July. She’s been off property multiple times, but this is her first time jumping and cantering in an open space. She approached the first few jumps asking me “are you sure we’re supposed to go over this?” and I replied with body cues that “yes I’m sure” and she quickly got the hang of it and ate up the jumps. Before xc schooling we played around on an obstacle course where she stepped on and across a blue tarp and a teeter totter without hesitation! I think we’ve come to trust each other wholeheartedly.”

Miss Legs!
No one said Re training or training in general was easy. This ride was not perfect in the slightest. But I’m happy with every ride and session we get.

We are still green…BUT we’re on the right track! She try’s her big heart out and when she does settle she gets her mind set and works hard. This mare is incredible. Legs is one in a million. This is only ride two after a long time off due to heat. We have regressed a bit but doesn’t mean she won’t get back to where she needs to be. I’m excited to see where we go with more ride time in the very near future!

Excuse my riding attire. We use what we got in the moment 😉

What an incredible story!
Glitter Time was bought as a 2 year old, she was claimed in a race 5/2021 and went to a not so great trainer and had a hard time. After about 6 months she was given back to Dana and her Husband. Glitter was then rehabilitated and went on to run for another year. She was taken off the track 12/22 and rehomed with the help of Lisa Hall to a great owner, Ellen Wilson!

This is what it’s all about. We love seeing Off tracks start a whole new life and career. This is no easy feat. We are incredibly proud of this team going to the Thoroughbred makeover in Kentucky!! Good luck to Glitter Time and her team mate, Ellen. We are so excited for you! You are doing incredible work. We will be rooting for you! ✨

Legs having some fun with her baby brain before letting the “big girl” brain take over 😂
It’s been a while since we have been able to do anything with this weather, luckily this morning, it stayed in the “safe zone” just long enough to do some light lunging over the poles this morning before it got too hot.
I love this quirky girl. Once she gets her giggles out, she’s all about her work. The best girl ❤️

Grand beating the heat!
All of the horses here got either a full bath or a nice long hose down to escape this heat!

05/27/2023

Let’s workin on her fancy feet ❤️ she’s getting stronger each ride/lunge session! Her baby brain still comes and goes but there’s definitely less and less of her baby Brain moments. I just absolutely adore her work ethic so much 💙

Ms. Legs got a much needed Spa treatment this morning. I love spending time with this girl. Legs puts a smile on my face everytime I pull her out.
She has such a calm demeanor. She soothes the soul. Legs is the whole package ❤️

Welp! Mr. Grand is on stall rest until further notice 😞
His front left showed some swelling and heat so we’re taking the necessary precautions and taking extra care of our big bud! Now we wait for our vet appointment to know more sometime this week. Hoping for the best for our big buddy!

I think you can tell he’s just absolutely OVER having all the attention on him 🙄😂

Legs is something special ❤️ today we worked again on the lunge line and then went ahead and did some under saddle work at the walk to cool down, worked on lateral movements and WOW. I see a bright future ahead with this one.

05/02/2023

After some time off due to weather, we were FINALLY able to get some work done. Starting off with a nice lunge to start the week, hopefully we can be back under saddle in no time! ❤️

OTTB, AQHA, APHA, KWPN, Grade. What do these all mean?
In the horse world, there are abbreviations for all the breeds because without them, it’d be a mouthful to say these all in a sentence while trying to quickly explain something about the horse and to quickly understand if the horse has papers or not( registered or not!)

The first is OTTB (Off track Thoroughbred) these horses are race trained or have been raced on the track and are registered with the Jockey club!

Next is AQHA (American Quarter horse association)

APHA (American paint horse association)

KWPN get ready and really try to pronounce this one (Koninklijk Warmbloed paardenstamboek Nederland) -basically a fancy way to say an imported Warmblood-

And finally, grade, a horse without papers. No registration.

I have ridden and trained a lot of different breeds of horses over the years and my heart fell in love with the Thoroughbred, specifically Off Track Thoroughbreds.

Most of the time, when someone hears the words “Off Track Thoroughbred”they think crazy, “hot” and unmanageable and a slew of other other stereotypes that all OTTB’s are thrown into, which isn’t fair. Sure, you’ll find that ✨some✨ are this way, but maybe, just never given the right chance to prove what an incredible horse they truly are.

When I think of a Thoroughbred I think, intelligent, silly, resilient, athletic and most of all, a big heart. Thoroughbreds forgive time and time again, and give everything they have when asked of and ask for nothing but love in return.

Channeling his inner race horse!

We’re giving Grand some time off (as if he needed it) to recoup from a bump on his leg… I wish we could wrap them in bubble wrap!! He’s sound and fine, just being precautious 💙 we sure do love our Grand and can’t wait to continue our work!

Legs and Grand had a fun play day out in the arena today!
I let them have a day to do what they want, move their body they way they feel they need to and to just have fun! And the opportunity to join up.
You can tell Grand had a fun time, he’s all smiles after his play time! 😂

From having 3 pins put in her leg, to being 100% sound and working is just INCREDIBLE! Legs is a resilient mare with a fabulous work ethic. It helps that she’s extremely easy on the eyes 😍
She has been extremely easy as far as restarting under saddle. Legs still has a lot to learn, but she’s on the right track. So excited to continue her training and see how far she’ll go ❤️
