We are in need of additional volunteers to help clean and play with cats that are located in the adoption center inside the PetSmart in Spartanburg. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Times are flexible. Ideally we would like to have volunteers who can commit to cleaning one day a week, but every other week is also an option as well as occasional back up for open days.

Responsibilities include cleaning the cages of all resident cats, replacing food and water, scooping litter boxes and replenishing litter as needed, spending time with each of the cats so they get some time to play and be loved on, reporting any concerns to the rescue leadership such as possible illness or stress. If interested, please send a private message with your contact information so our volunteer coordinator can connect with you.

Introducing Parrot, one of our sweet FIP warriors! It is so difficult to fathom that FIP held such a dire prognosis in the recent past, but those diagnosed who receive the new LEGALIZED treatment are shattering expectations.

Responding remarkably well to treatment, Parrot’s energy is soaring, appetite is voracious, and spirit is thriving! This little fella is a beacon of hope… reminding us that with a little help along the way, every broken halo can still shine.

As a horrendous storm raged just over a week ago, we dread posting a cry for help internally when our needs pale in comparison to those of so many.

Over the weekend, our beloved Licorice sweet was diagnosed with crippling urinary retention, leaving his bladder painfully full and his lab results teetering on the edge of disaster.

We rushed him to (the always incredible) Palmetto Animal Urgent Care, fearing we would not be able to save him. The procedure to decompress his bladder was risky, but we had to try. No obstructions or crystals were found, but the likely culprit is a neurogenic bladder from neurological Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).

Now, Licorice is back in our loving foster care. We're providing aggressive Veterinarian-directed therapies, including urinary and IV catheters, and hourly care to give him the best chance at recovery.

The road ahead is uncertain, but we're committed to fighting for Licorice's life. We can't do it without your help. If you can donate, please do. Every dollar counts. Share Licorice's story to spread love and awareness. Send your prayers and positive thoughts – we need them.

Licorice may be fragile, but his spirit is unbroken. We won't give up on him.

Also a HUGE thank you to Dr. Axson and their team and Miss Dixie’s Kitten Rescue for setting this up for the pets of WNC! Bring your pets in a carrier or on a leash tomorrow from 11AM-4PM if they are needing veterinary care. Please note that this is not a full vet office so no surgeries, x-rays, or intensive care will be given. No appointments are needed and the vet has offered to stay as long as there are animals that need care so pull on up and we'll see you tomorrow!

Keeping our feline friends safe is our top priority! While it's true that cats need enrichment and stimulation, the great outdoors isn't always the safest option anymore. With more people, cars, and wildlife encroachment, outdoor free-roaming can be risky for our whiskered friends. We learned this firsthand with Jalapeño, who was trapped and thought to be a community cat or feral. He never approached us while outside, but we were shocked when he followed us after being released from the trap! It turns out, he was just waiting for the right moment to show us his affectionate side. If you’re set on “fresh air” for your kitties, we recommend safe and fun alternatives like patios or enclosed outdoor spaces where your cat can enjoy fresh air and sunshine without the dangers. Of course, some cats like true ferals and community cats are adapted to outdoor life, but even they face shorter lifespans due to the risks. Let's keep our kitties safe and happy indoors with plenty of love, playtime, and enrichment to keep them perfectly content! Jalapeño is living proof that even the toughest exterior can hide a softie inside!
