Story time!
On October 1st, we lost my sweet mother in law. Her birthday would have been October 25th.
On October 24th, on a beautiful day, mom sent us a special gift from heaven. Our Izzy had her very last foal. (She will be retired after this one) out of something like 14 or 15 foals, Izzy has only ever had 2 fillies (girls) and this sweet baby makes #3! She was what is called a ‘dummy foal’ which already gave her a rough start to life. Add in the fact that Izzy had no milk, so the filly didn’t get colostrum, to boost her immune system. So off to the vet Izzy and baby went. After 18 days at the vet, multiple tubes of domparidone for Izzy (to induce milk), tube feedings every 2 hrs around the clock, having an allergic reaction to plasma (given when foals don’t get colostrum to help immunity) antibiotics, and a whole slew of other things, mom and baby got to come home today! Baby still isn’t out of the woods and won’t be for a very long time due to having zero immune system for now, but we are so glad she is spunky, alert, eating on her own, and doing so much better!
So we are beyond thrilled to introduce
‘Leanna’s golden birthday’ after my mother in law.
Barn name ‘Kay’
This filly is not, nor probably ever will be, for sale. She has a special place in our hearts that not many will be able to understand.
