🙌❤️🙌

A "cat lady" from the 1930s was typically an older woman who lived alone and kept several cats as companions. In this era, society often viewed women who were unmarried or living independently with a certain degree of social stigma, so having a collection of cats could be seen as both a comfort and a source of companionship. These women often preferred the company of their pets over the busy social lives that many others led, and cats became symbols of independence and eccentricity during this time.

In the 1930s, many cat ladies were known for their deep affection for their feline friends, and they would often be seen knitting, reading, or simply enjoying the company of their cats. The animals were not only companions but also provided emotional support during a time of great social and economic uncertainty, particularly during the Great Depression. The cat lady archetype was often portrayed in literature and media, sometimes with a touch of humor or even as a symbol of a life lived outside of conventional norms.

While the stereotype of the "cat lady" became more pronounced over the decades, in the 1930s, these women were simply carving out their own spaces in a world that often made them feel out of place. Their love for their cats was genuine, and for many, these animals became their closest friends, offering affection and companionship in a time of societal upheaval.

I always thought Jack was a girl till I saw the backside today. My Neighbor’s kitty is this not a torti? So he was sterile to begin with. Rare if I’m correct.

BEFORE YOU GET OFFENDED when someone suggests you neuter your cat please read this.

1. When a cat becomes pregnant, it is not through choice. There is no romantic liaison.... it literally is the equivalent of sexual assault.
The male cat's p***s is barbed and causes excruciating pain for the female.

2. Every rescue is dependent on volunteers. Volunteers who lose family time, money, sleep, weekends and evenings caring for and fundraising to ensure unwanted cats get the correct care.

3.Animals have no voice.. So when somebody speaks on their behalf, stop getting upset.

4.Uneutered Male cats will wander in search of females. They will fight ferociously and cause terrible injury to other males in the process causing sepsis. And dreadful life threatening diseases.

5. Every litter of kittens born in your home and sold adds to the problem by stopping a rescue cat being adopted.

6. Rescues are full to capacity with cats which have been bought on a whim of Facebook and surrendered or abandoned due to boredom or inability to afford vet bills, Neuter, Vaccines, Food, Flea and worm treatment

7. Each rescue has a waiting list. They spend literally thousands of dollars a year on Vet Treatment. Food, Litter. Flea and Worm Treatment, Electricity, Shelter Rent, Fuel... These are just the basics.

8. Behind the scenes volunteers nurse kittens every 2-4 hours, feed ferals everyday, clean litter boxes and field calls from people several times a day. All this while fundraising constantly. Worry about cats who have been surrendered and are traumatised by being torn from its surroundings and carry the guilt of the decisions they have to make.

9. Rescues have volunteers who drive for miles. Trapping stray and dumped cats, picking up unwanted cats and spending hours on the phone trying to find spaces and homes for unwanted pets.

10. Volunteers spend their free time and energy picking up the pieces from people who allow cats to have kittens and refuse to neuter.

Please don’t be offended when someone asks are you getting your cat neutered - rescues see the consequences of these actions every day 365 days a year and are simply giving a voice to the vulnerable creatures so casually given away or sold for a dollar.

I just want to spill heaps of gratitude 🙏 it’s been tight financially and the support given has been so helpful and such a relief. I have tears of happiness. Special thanks to Christelle for the generous Walmart delivery (and Lindor truffles)today and Harley who sent 3 amazing cases of canned food the other week. I truly appreciate you! The kitties love their food too, we go through 6 cans a day.!❤️🥰❤️

Copy and paste but the high volume owners bother me extremely. I definitely think fixed/altered animals no matter the number be exempt as long as they are well cared for and not the next hoarding case. This is extreme and unnecessary in a world where 99% will meet euthanasia. How do they even plan to manage the intakes???? I’m not happy about the micromanaging although we are safe in the next county. WTH

URGENT NOTICE (time sensitive)
TO MARION COUNTY PET OWNERS
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

Marion County will consider a draft ordinance that seeks to impose NEW limits on the number of dogs and cats per residence.

PLEASE attend the meeting on 💥February 18th 💥 to SAY NO, or in lieu of attending the meeting PLEASE CALL and/or EMAIL. Contact information below.

LOCATION OF MEETING:
McPherson Governmental Campus Auditorium
601 SE 25th Avenue
Ocala, FL 34471

PROPOSED ORDINANCE

Sec 4.3.28. Limitations on Ownership and Possession of Dogs and Cats.

The number of dogs and cats which may be owned and/or possessed in unincorporated Marion County arelimited as follows:

A. On all non-agriculturally zoned properties, the number of dogs shall not exceed four (4) per residence. The number of cats shall not exceed eight (8) per residence.

B. On all agriculturally zoned properties under ten (10) acres, the number of dogs shall not exceed six (6) per residence. The number of cats shall not exceed ten (10) per residence.

C. On all agriculturally zoned properties over ten (10) acres, the number of dogs shall not exceed ten (10) per residence. The number of cats shall not exceed fifteen (15) per residence.

D. High Volume Owners, as defined herein, may apply for an exemption through the Special Use permit review and permitting process in the A-1, General Agriculture; A-2, Improved Agriculture; or A-3, Residential Agricultural Estate zoning classification on parcels of ten (10) acres or greater.

E. Service animals are exempt from these requirements and are not counted toward the total number of animals permitted.

CONCERNS

Approximately 81% of County residents would be impacted by this proposal. Because its impact is likely far reaching, residents should be provided an extended timeframe to review the proposal and reach out to County Commissioners to share their concerns.

The draft provides no plan of action for the number of currently-owned animals that would be above the limits proposed. Would those dogs and cats be subject to seizure and forfeiture? Euthanasia? Redistribution via shelters and rescues? To ensure that owners will not be forced to give up any animals, any limit proposal should grandfather all currently-owned animals, and owners should be allowed to come into compliance as animals die or if transferred.

‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
‼️ WHAT YOU CAN DO ‼️
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

#1: Contact the Marion County Board of Commissioners to express deep concerns with the draft ownership limits ordinance currently before the Land Development Regulation Commission.

Please feel free to use the points above when asking them to oppose the current draft. You might want to add what is in my opinion more important:

‼️The County should be more concerned about the root cause of the problem. Stricter, and enforced, spay and neuter laws. Harsh penalties for any backyard breeding activity, even "accidental", and strictly limit breeding of any kind, even licensed‼️

All county commissioners may be contacted at once by emailing [email protected] (I have found that this option does not work as well as sending individually. My personal opinion is to draft your message and then copy and paste it to each individual commissioner)

Individual county commissioners may be contacted as follows:

Commissioner Kathy Bryant, Dist. 2 , Board Chair – [email protected]

Commissioner Carl Zalak, III, Dist. 4, Board Vice Chair – [email protected]

Commissioner Craig Curry, Dist. 1 – (352) 438-2323, [email protected]

Commissioner Matt McClain, Dist. 3 – [email protected]

Commissioner Michelle Stone, Dist. 5 – [email protected]

The phone number for all commissioners is (352) 438-2323.

To identify your commission, go to https://www.marionfl.org/my-commissioners and use the "Find Your Commissioner" search feature near the bottom of the page.

#2: Contact the Land Development Regulation Commission and express your deep concerns with the current draft dog limit zoning ordinance. It may be reached by phone at (352) 438-2691, or by email using the form available at https://www.marionfl.org/doing-business/phone-directory/contact-planning.
