Welcome to Woof Wednesday!
Every Wednesday our beloved Bloodhound client, Brook, plans to give out some free information to our followers! Believe us, she's got a lot to say and she can say it loudly 😆
This first Woof Wednesday, Brook wants to remind everyone that Chex, a 4-year-old fellow Hound mix, has been waiting TWO HUNDRED AND TEN days to meet his furever family over at the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Sylva‼️ She doesn't understand why some lucky person hasn't scooped him up yet considering what a gentleman he is.

Meet Chex!
Age: 4
S*x: Neutered male Hound mix
Weight: 44 lbs
Personality and Behavior: Chex is a sweetheart! He loves people and attention. He jumps when he is excited, but once he calms down he is a gentlemen, and just wants some loving. He loves treats and doesn’t really care for toys. Despite his past of neglect he is a happy boy ready for a loving home! He does well on a leash once he’s calmed down, but still may benefit from some basic obedience and leash training.
Dogs: He came to us with a pack of other dogs, and is very friendly through the fence, but meet and greets are always recommended.
Children: We think he would do fine with kids, but he does jump up when excited. Meet and greets are always recommended.
Cats: unknown.

To our dear friends and supporters of Catman2, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, local legend Dr. Harold “Catman” Walter Sims, Jr. He crossed The Rainbow Bridge to meet the entire army of cats waiting for him on Sunday November 17, 2024. Harold was one-of-a-kind, choosing to use his savings to build a safe-for-life cat shelter and sanctuary, and the largest cat museum in the United States right here in Sylva. He never took a salary for working seven days a week at the shelter until hiring a shelter director, and then transitioned to working full time for the cat museum well into his late 80s. He was a hard worker for his entire life, from dairy farm work in his early years to teaching biology and ecology for 22 years at a junior college in FL to spending his post-retirement years rescuing cats and building a museum to exhibit his 30+ year collection of cat art and memorabilia. His mission in life was to make the world a better place, and to inspire, entertain, and educate people about our feline friends with his museum.

We will share details for his celebration of life event at the WNC Cat Museum soon. For the record, both the shelter and the museum will continue to operate - we have every intention of continuing his legacy. Please understand our need for time and space to process this profound loss.

Attention JCPS! Students in grades K-8 are invited for a matinee performance of NEWSIES, followed by a backstage tour and pictures with cast members on stage!

Tickets are on sale NOW at the links below or at the door, though we strongly encourage purchasing your ticket in advance! Students who purchase a ticket and attend the Saturday matinee are invited for a backstage tour with cast members and pictures on stage immediately following the show.

We welcome you at any of the four shows that weekend; the FUTURE MUSTANG BACKSTAGE PASS is ONLY available following the Saturday Matinee and requires purchase of a ticket for the Saturday show at 3:00pm. Other show times are Friday 11/22 at 7:30, Saturday 11/23 at 7:30, and Sunday 11/24 at 3pm.

Adults: $15, Children and students k-12: $5.

Meet Everest!
Age: 1.5 years old
S*x: Spayed female
Weight: 46 lbs
Personality and Behavior: Everest is very sweet and playful. She loves to play fetch and run around the play yards. She knows the command sit very well. She does still have some puppy tendencies including being mouthy and jumping up when she’s excited. She can be nervous around new people, but she normally warms up very quickly. She has done well on trail walks with volunteers with minimal pulling.
Dogs: She does fine with dogs through the fence, but has had issues with other dogs in the home in the past. Due to this, Everest would do best as an only dog in the home.
Children: We aren’t sure, but since she jumps, we would recommend bringing your children in for a meet and greet.
Cats: unknown.
