Noah demonstrating "portal management" #5 of 5
In this video, we see how "sending" a horse can be used for lots of things--crossing a platform. Or sending into a trailer, into a stall, into a wash rack--anyplace you want a horse to go on the ground.

Noah demonstrating "portal management" #2 of 5
In this video, David is using Noah to demonstrate the safest way to take horses into or through "portals"--trailers, paddocks, gates, stalls. You don't lead them in, you send them through while you are "stationed" at the portal entrance, they turn and face you, then back away from you as you secure the gate.

Gracie--Establishing Softness in the Front
Third Gracie video is establishing softness in the front, vertical flexion (defining the outside rein). This should be done with one rein at a time, the outside rein's purpose (along with controlling leg speed in current gait) is to request vertical flexion (bending at poll and arching of neck softly). I'm taking more rein contact, but am releasing (I call it a micro-release) the outside rein when Gracie gives me the response. This is a 1-2 with the inside-outside rein, a nano-second offset with first the inside rein tension coming on following immediately by the outside rein tension, first taught with lateral flexion gained by the inside rein.
Gracie--Stretching Neck for Muscle Relief
In this fourth Gracie video, I'm providing neck and shoulder muscle relief after working muscles in a different way than they have been used in the past--after lateral and vertical flexion exercises, it is important to ask for and allow stretching of the neck and front, forward and down. Also note my rein "float" (the amount of slack), and watch my hands closely to see how I am asking her to change directions softly, and providing immediate releases back to the float.
Gracie--One Rein At a Time--Direct vs Bearing Rein
I am riding her with only one rein at a time, turning left and right, and also stopping straight ahead, and across the platform. This is practicing what we learned yesterday, and helping her to discriminate while further sensitizing her to the difference between the direct rein (rein connected to same shoulder on that side) and the bearing rein (rein connected to opposite shoulder). This is how you get ultimate control of the front end, and front/rear alignment.
