I want to reach out and say THANK YOU! Thank you to all of our wonderful friends and followers for sharing my post and helping us come up with other options for our stray dogs of Barron County.
Weā€™ve had other rescues and Humane Societies reach out and had a successful meeting with another county today who is 100% in this to help the dogs like we are and willing to help take our unclaimed strays.
We greatly appreciate all of you and wouldnā€™t be able to do this without you! šŸ¾ā¤ļø

This is a post I really haven't wanted to make. But the time has come we need to.

As you all know we are contracted to house and care for the stray dogs in Barron County. I am currently looking for another rescue or humane society to partner with to start taking our unclaimed stray dogs.
There is an overpopulation of dogs in our county that are getting dumped when owners aren't able to surrender them locally. This is a substantial drain on our limited resources and causing burnout for our staff. We love what we do, but the county impound is mentally and physically exhausting. I spend my days off, time with my kids, on the phone trying to track down owners. Trying to track down a place to take our unclaimed dogs. The Barron County cops have been great about helping us track down owners lately. But, when a dog goes unclaimed I am currently keeping them for way longer than I'd like and it's not fair to them. It's also gotten very hard for me to get them into our local Humane Society the last year.
I currently have to pay substantially more than the surrender fees every time i transfer an unclaimed stray locally, and am willing to keep doing so. If I could find another spot in a surrounding area that would be willing to work with us it would help us immensely. Please share and if anyone has any leads please reach out to us.

Once again we are receiving numerous calls a day with people trying to surrender their dog with us.

We sympathize with your situations, but the lack of resources for surrendering your dog in the county is completely out of our control.
We are not equipped to house/rescue/adopt out dogs.

Happy Tales is contracted with the Barron County Sheriffā€™s Office to house and care for lost/stray dogs ONLY.
We CAN NOT take the dog you no longer can afford.
We CAN NOT take the dog you dump from another county because you just donā€™t want them anymore.
If your dog is in impound you need to come get it and surrender it properly. Telling us youā€™re not coming for it is not the proper solution.
Itā€™s not fair to me or my employees to find out you lied about ā€œfinding a lost dogā€ that was really yours you didnā€™t want.
And that has happened more times than I can count.

We are currently keeping EVERY unclaimed stray dog brought in to us for 2-3 weeks because of the lack of space for dogs in the county.
If you need to surrender your dog please call your local humane society or a rescue in a neighboring county.

LOST DOG

07/20/2024

Just want to reach out to all of our clients and ask that you have some patience with us please. Right now weā€™ve got a person on vacation, and Amanda is dealing with some medical issues in the hospital. We are an unexpectedly short staffed and busier than ever.
Our 1st priority is the dogs. 2nd priority is getting texts, calls, emails, fb messages returned.
It may take a little longer for us to get back to you. Please understand we will as soon as we can.
With that being said we are currently completely booked until Aug 12. We would love to be able to take care of everyone who requests our services but realistically know that we canā€™t. We are unable to take any new clients the rest of the summer. We need to be able to help our wonderful existing clients first. I will reevaluate once the busy season is over.
Thank you
Amanda
