One of the things I always tell my clients, is if your dog is having a moment of fear / uncertainty (and nothing life threatening has happened), do not dwell on it! The faster you recover, the faster they recover.
Help them by picking up their spirits and acting like nothing is wrong. They feed off of our energy.

Now don’t get all defensive on me. I’m not saying you absolutely should not get a working line GSD.
What I am saying, is don’t expect their drive to be subdued as compared to a Malinois or Dutch Shepherd. These are all different breeds with their own personalities, but a working line GSD does not inherently have a lower drive than either of these two other breeds.
Yes, you can find “pet quality” working line GSDs and Malinois. But these are outliers and NOT what reputable breeders are trying to achieve with these dogs.
If you are seriously considering a working line GSD as your next pet, you should expect high drive, high energy and even high arrousal in your dog. You should expect that this dog will have a genetic desire to work. You should expect to put a lot of effort (and money) into training.

While I thoroughly enjoy teaching Scorpion new and complicated behaviours that honestly, are pretty easy to teach her compared to Governor or Piglet, some days I just appreciate life with Governor.
He has all of his obedience. He is fully off-leash trained: meaning he will never run up to people or dogs. He will never run into the street. He will never pick things up off the ground. All of his obedience is reflexive (meaning that he doesn’t have to think about the behaviour that has been asked for), he has no behavioural problems anymore and he’s just a delight to be around.
It takes a long time to get to this level of reliability and I could not ask for more from this boy ❤️
