Had a really fun ride on Pistol today. His full geldingness is finally kicking in and I’m able to enjoy him. He’s truly one of the sweetest animals at heart I have ever met. I am obviously so grateful for each and everyone of his colts whether they belong to me or someone else. Once we moved down here the stress of not being able to see all the mares combined with the heat was too much for him. His hormones often made him pretty crazy. He does still have to be managed to a degree, but he is now semi across the fence from the mare and colts and he loves it. He is also across from Papa Magnum and his boys. So grateful for this time I get to share with him now.

Snuck in a little ride on Pistol tonight. He’s one proud papa as the Bates girls really cleaned up at fair on his sons Ronan and Fiji! Elli has trained 4 year old Ronan all herself, won multiple classes and is the only one who qualified for state! Hope took 5 year old Fiji and won multiple classes, junior high point, and passed the 3 step Dad Potter which is a really big deal and hard to accomplish. The judge couldn’t even remember the last time he had awarded one! Way to go girls!

Baby photo dump from feeding this morning. They are starting to pop through with their color. Appa still has a ways to go to show his black legs. Jamie Boy is going to be stunning and has a teeny tiny white star. They still have a ways to go to catch Lily in size, but the boys are going to get there!

The Hearty brand finally got slapped on some horses. I figured it was only fitting that Pistol should be the first to wear it since he is most responsible for developing my brand. Jovin was number 2. Gradually going to get this put on everyone. This is mostly for purposes of identification should anything happen. It’s also a tradition and something I used to help my grandfather with, though we used a hot brand then.

Had a glorious, well as glorious as it gets in Oklahoma, ride on Jovin today. We had an event that absolutely proves the minds of these draft horses. I was not paying attention and a small tree went through my stirrup, about a foot and a half and pinned my foot and put my leg up over Jovin’s rump! It took me a sec for all to compute but as soon as I asked Jovin to stop he did. Then he quietly backed up, my leg came down, the tree slid out, all was well! I’ve ridden enough colts to know that is the exception to the rule. This was only his 2nd time out on the trail! He did think weird rocks were scary and the waves that the ski boat was making. Yet went and sniffed the scary rock and walked into the scary waves. I could seriously ride off into the sunset on this horse and never look back. 💙

This funny friend is Appa. He is out of my impeccably cow bred mare Royal Colinda aka Beans and by Jovin. Beans managed to sneak behind the stall wall and have him without even being able to see her on the camera. When I realized there was a baby I rushed out to check on things. When I entered the stall I expected a normal unsure little baby. What I instantly saw in his eyes were calm and trust. He has been an absolute love from day one. While plain bay would not be my choice of colors for a stallion, I am going to retain him pending a genetic work up. If all comes back clean I believe he will be a perfectly sized draft cross to cross on my smaller mares.

Bee Bee girl is on a trailer, headed to Minnesota to become a heel horse. Super excited to see her finally get a job. I had kept her to replace her mother, and had aspirations of her being my sorting horse. Unfortunately, going back to school and starting a new career meant putting a lot of horses on the back burner. I never caught her in heat, so I never raised any babies with her. She’s always wanted to be a part of things and have a job, so I’m super excited for her. She is a full sister to the beloved Charlie.
