I love rain!!!!! We spread 500 # of dolomite and 1000 # of pasture fertilizer today. All the time encouraging the rain gods to gently bring rain. And it happened. I sure do hope our horses appreciate that. I know I do!

Hopefully many people read the article on the front page of the Tampa Bay Times entitled " Cash flow potential driving DEP chief" today. Not sure where Governor Scott and his appointed minions get off with the current house and senate bills that call for state park management plans to include "preservation of low-impact agriculture" among their mandated goals. What this means is cattle ranchers will be able to use park lands to pasture cattle. Lumber companies harvesting our state's trees. Tax free? Dang, what a plan that is. Many of our state parks have spent years repairing ranching damaged land to healthy Florida ecosystems.
The people appointed to the DEP (by Scott) are business people, not exactly well versed in ecology management. And doesn't look like they really care. The people who are supposed to protect our natural lands just aren't.
If you care about the open spaces left in Florida PLEASE contact your house and senate representatives about HB 7135 and SB 7086. Google those people in your area.
Honestly, I don't want to be fenced out of my parks.

Pretty good night until the (horse) party outside about three am. Big scurry getting out. The rigs moved first then a bus takes us back. My goal: follow someone who knows where they are going!

Well here we go! My trailer is horse and people packed. Mary and I leave here about noon for the first leg of the journey. Kibler Ranch is hosting all 120 of us riders tonight. This is actually a designated historical trail we are following. Sometimes on paved roads sometimes in state park lands sometimes on private property and sometimes on SWFWMD land. Any way, an adventure!

Two days left for packing up. My BF Mary Spence and I, Cindy Shaw, are just about ready to travel across Florida, retracing the historical trail taken by Cracker cowboys after they had herded their cattle to port in western Florida. The feed for my mares has been quite a quartermaster event, packing enough hay for nine days? In a three horse trailer is tricky... Don't open doors!
Fortunately John Brown has engineered this project quite well, building a hay room from the extra stall in the trailer. As well as designing a leak proof roof over Mary's and my heads.

A lady contacted me today looking for 2 trail ready Paso Fino horses for herself and her kids. I'm not too anxious to sell my riding mares but thought I'd put it out there for all you Paso people. Contact me if you know anybody who is selling?

Red Horse Farm is preparing for a bucket list event. Myself and two young mares have enlisted my good friend's camping experience in a cross Florida ride. Bradenton to Fort Pierce, about 110 miles on horse back, tracing the historical Cracker Trail, the route taken by the cattlemen of old after they sent their cattle off and returned home. The Florida Cracker Trail Association organizes this ride annually. Red Horse Farm has been dreaming and preparing for this ride for many years and this is the one!
So many issues to overcome (leaking living areas, how to store enough hay to last the journey, building confidence in my horses, encouraging my mares to find their own strengths while still knowing I am the lead mare. Not to mention prepping for cold weather). I believe we are ready. A Grand Adventure awaits.

Dalia. 4.08.2014. Our newest addition to the farm. Big and beautiful. I imprinted her minutes after her birth. It is already showing positive effects in her personality.

WAITING for La Catedral to drop her foal!!! This one should be fun, a Dali baby.
Meanwhile John is the best ever making a fire tonight for me with NO fat fat wood to catch the hickory AND with a big fat cut on his thumb. What a man.

23 new chicklets arrived on the farm today. OMG such cuties. Snake bait! Folks are really appreciating a healthy alternative to "store bought " eggs. I more than pleased to offer what I can. 4 months and more eggies!

Red Horse Farms has gained and lost. Pelatuna and Misterio have gone to new homes and Merlin has come to ours. Merlin is the same size as Molly and the same breed (Sheltie). He just found the only dog chewable toy in the house and chose to chew that over the shoes, the rugs, etc. Nice Dog!

Red Horse Farm is currently offering Paso Fino horses for sale.
Capilla is a 6 year old mare, trail safe, very smooth gaited.
Maximo is a 7 year old gelding with a personality that is hard to find. He has been successfully shown in Pleasure classes and works well on the trail also.
Pelatuna and Misterio are only for the experienced rider and are free to a good home.
