Oh, yes, I love a beautiful Buff Brahma. I have 2 of these beauties. I enjoy photographing the Gold hens. It certainly makes for a lovely Fall-like picture. Our grass is still green. I don’t know how much longer it will stay green. But it will change to a golden brown. I guess everything needs a rest.

I’m trying to keep my eyes open to watch The Dallas Cowboys game to the bitter end. Not sure that’s gonna happen. The Texas Rangers are tied in the 7th. Come on Rangers. And Go Cowboys.

Happy Caturday! Miss Cat acts as the Flock cat sometimes. She won’t take any belogna off of any of them. I have seen her swat at a chicken, but never know exactly why. And the chickens don’t seem to pay any attention to her. They coexist nicely.
Have a great evening!

Red S*x Link and a Black S*x Link. I’ve always loved these girls. They are very friendly. They lay big eggs. They shy away from fights. And that’s a good thing. And when I say fights I’m talking about a peck here and a peck there.

Here’s hoping you have the best Saturday ever.

No story here. Just one of Annie’s chiclets with my Wellsummer. Wellsummers are not the best layers, but they are friendly or have been for me.

Here’s a little exercise I have for you. Turn your phone off. Lay it down. Get a piece of paper and pen. Go outside for 15 minutes. Write down everything you see in that 15 minutes. I’m going to do this myself. Sometimes we just need to unplug.

Happy Friday Afternoon.

I only have 4 of the chiclets pictured here. But I have a story. [📖] They are all 5 out there. Chief was on his way out the door to go to the dentist. Of course I was still in my nightgown. Oft times I don’t get dressed till noon. But that’s beside the point. Chief poked his head in the door and said, “it’s time for me to go NOW, but all 5 of those little chicks are out.” I responded with, “they will probably go back in.” But as I was putting on my shoes, Chief said, “there’s no way you’ll be able to open that gate.” But I knew I needed to go out. I went and assessed what was happening. I decided to come back to the house for a few peanuts. By the time I went back out, the chiclets were indeed back inside the fence where they belonged. I found where I thought they may have made their escape and re-entry and put something there to plug the hole. All done in my blue silkie nightgown. I’m glad we have no neighbors at the moment. Not that the houses around us are situated where people can see our property easily. However, we occasionally have stray dogs that visit. But let me remind you of London. She’s 9-1/2 years old and used to visit the wrong side of the fence for years tho she no longer does it, that I’m aware of. She happens to be a good flier. These 5 chiclets may have flown over for all I know. I did not actually witness it. I’m too old to have 5 menacing chiclets.
That’s the way my day started.

Happy Friday!

A few days ago, I wrote about Annie and how she seemed to be in a mourning frame of mind with her moaning sound for a lack of a better term. But I would like to report, she seems to be doing much better. They all got peanuts today, and she ate her fair share. This picture below was taken this evening between 6 & 7 pm. She seemed to have a bounce in her step. And I’m so glad.

Goodnight…(in case I don’t post again). Sleep well, my friends!

This photo was taken not long ago. This is my absolute favorite time of day. It’s still pretty warm today. But better than the hot summertime.
My chickens are foraging their way to the coop with Big D looking on.

Have a good evening.

Marla dropping by to say “have the best Thursday afternoon ever”. I haven’t done much this morning. I sold 6 dozen eggs. That’s always a good thing. I have at least 3 customers that have asked me to save all my eggs for them. I do what I can. But the truth is, our days are showing a fairly significant decrease in length. And chickens slow down laying during the shorter days. Yes, my Spring chicks will start laying and will lay through the Winter, but I only purchased 6. Annie’s 5 are looking like pullets, but they’re only 9 weeks old. (And those were totally unplanned and a crazy surprise.) The rest of my hens are molting and/or many are 5 years old. London is 9-1/2 years old. So I really am not getting enough eggs for 3 or 4 customers. I ask $3.50 per dozen. But one guy always has $3.00 per dozen ready to hand to Chief or me. Neither of us have had the heart to tell him we get $3.50 a dozen. He was giving us $3.50 a dozen. Then he dropped the pay. Neither of us exactly know why. We just look at the money and walk away scratching our head/s. He’s a fellow church member if that gives you an idea why we don’t say anything to him.
I meant to say this above only 3 of our 6 Spring chicks have started laying. Just small chicken keeping problems. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yesterday afternoon I took a migraine. In all honesty, it was short-lived. But I feel like I have another coming on this afternoon as well. I used to have migraines like crazy. Then after menopause they left. So I don’t know why they have started back up. Tho these have not been nearly as severe as they once were. I am in no way whining about them. There are problems in the world way worse than my migraines.

Let me tell you a little secret. I heard the news of Charlie Kirk’s death yesterday. I asked Chief, “Who is he?” He said, “I don’t know.” If I had been guessing who he was, I would have said, “I think he used to play for The New York Yankees or maybe The Cardinals.” But after some research I learned who he was and decided his death was an Evil act of terrorism. I don’t tell you this for any other reason than to try to make you smile at my being so out of the loop. Chief and I just might watch a little too much Gunsmoke, Andy Griffith, The Real McCoys, and Duck Dynasty. (Or baseball)🤦🏻‍♀️
Or quite possibly take care of chickens, dogs and cats. Idk.
Anyway, my heart goes out to Charlie’s wife and children. Many prayers!!!

Happy Thursday Afternoon!

I don’t have a midday flower. But here was the bloom in our day. Chief and I went to eat lunch with great grandson, Flint. We surprised him with Chic-Fil-A. But here’s the story about that- Chic-Fil-A is 25 minutes in the opposite direction from where Flint’s school is. And Flint’s school is 20-25 minutes from our house. So we started out around 9:30am to try to get to his school at 10:50, which is when his class eats. We tore the rubber off the tires to get there on time. I suppose by the time we made it to the cafeteria, Flint had been sitting maybe a minute. He had not had time to get his milk open. The look on his face was priceless. He did not disappoint. He ran to his Papa and gave him a big hug- then I got a hug. He was so excited about the food we took him. He gave Papa his school lunch, which worked out good because Chic-Fil-A had failed to put his sandwich in the bag. (Don’t you hate when that happens?) So we ate with him. He didn’t finish off his fruit cup because he talked so excitedly. He’s the sweetest lil guy. I’m glad we did it. It was a drive. We should have been 3-5 minutes late, but I talked Chief into speeding a tad. He never speeds. Texas State Troopers are everywhere. But we lucked out. I could have settled for McDonalds but he always asks for Chic-Fil-A. And I’m not keen on McDs. It was the most perfect lunch ever. I felt like I was eating in the company of royalty. So that’s my story today.

One more post. Please and thank you. Chief and I went to the lake 8 miles away so I could get a sunset picture. It turned out ok. But I like it when a few clouds linger near at sundown. It makes for a more interesting picture. But I posted it on my private page and said my picture was underwhelming to say the least but many disagreed. But also here’s what happened. I get sidetracked in taking other pictures (last 2 pictures) and I almost let the sun slip down too low. When it starts down that horizon, it’s gone quickly.

Good night again.

These two pictures are of Annie. Annie has always been quirky- very hard to read. She’s 4-1/2 years old. She’s never been the best layer tho lots of her eggs were hidden and I just toss hidden eggs that I find. But she has laid in nest boxes because I had seen her and saw her beautiful cream colored eggs. She had been broody one other time, but I could see where she was setting on her clutch of eggs and left her alone. But as the days went along, she eventually discarded them (which I never knew where to or how.) Just one of her quirky ways. Then she came up to the house on July 11, with 5 chicks in tow. It took me 3 nights to figure out where she was taking them to roost at night. Quirky Annie. But…Annie did the best at raising her chiclets to be 9 weeks old. She has been distancing herself from them for a few days, but today I saw her chase them off. I mean “come on Annie they just wanted to visit you for a few seconds and tell you thanks for raising them” right- or maybe not. Who knows? It’s Quirky Annie. I mentioned this in one of my comments earlier. The last couple of days Annie has hung near me (first picture below) and has given me a noise that I’ve never heard. London makes a happy chat/song all the time. But Annie’s sound is more moanful or lamenting. I don’t know what she wants. I’ve tried to figure out what she wants. I’ve decided she must be suffering from Empty Nest Syndrome. Maybe she needs a new hobby for at least a season. Or maybe a very mild antidepressant. Or…just a dust bath alone. (Second picture). Poor Quirky Annie. I’m glad she finally went and took a dust bath. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Goodnight
