LLEF
Lightner Legacy Estates & Farm had the pleasure of installing raised beds and a flower garden at a local Montessori. We are pleased that all the parents participated… purchased soil plants and seeds for their children’s learning experience. We thank our parent who built the outer construction of the raised beds and for Mrs. and Mr. Mathis for inviting us to lead this project. If you know of anyone interested in establishing their gardens, reach out to Lightner Legacy Estates & Farm at: [email protected] www.lightnerlef.com

This is the time where fall vegetables flourish, especially beets, collards, mustards, turnips, onions…. My experience has been that they even don’t mind the snow as it happens here in north Texas. Mine have always survived.
The weather today is amazing and it was a peaceful watering. Nature is flourishing.

Before the introduction of supermarkets, food was Everywhere!
In the annals of modern history, the rise of supermarkets in the early 20th century, beginning with Clarence Saunders' Piggly Wiggly in 1916 and the proliferation of chain supermarkets by 1946, marked a significant shift in the way people shopped for groceries. While supermarkets revolutionized convenience and accessibility, let's take a journey back in time to explore the charm and simplicity of life before supermarkets became popular.
The General Store Era (Pre-1916)
Before the dawn of supermarkets, the heart of any community was its local general store. These rustic emporiums served as more than just places to purchase goods; they were hubs for social interaction and a source of invaluable local knowledge. Customers knew their shopkeepers by name, and personalized service was the norm. In these stores, you could find everything from canned goods to dry goods, and even hardware items, all under one roof.
A Sense of Community
One of the most cherished aspects of pre-supermarket life was the sense of community that general stores fostered. These establishments served as gathering places where neighbors could catch up on local news, discuss the weather, and share a cup of coffee. The grocer knew your preferences and could make recommendations based on your family's needs.
Local and Seasonal Produce
In the era before chain supermarkets, there was a stronger reliance on local and seasonal produce. Shoppers eagerly awaited the arrival of fresh fruits and vegetables, which were only available when they were in season. This reliance on local agriculture forged a deep connection between communities and their farmers, creating a more sustainable and ecologically friendly way of life.
Minimal Packaging
Another striking difference was the minimal packaging of goods. Most items were sold in bulk, and shoppers brought their own containers to fill. This approach not only reduced waste but also promoted frugal
