Environmental exposures are important to a pup. Making sure they are positive is the key. Saber and a I make frequent trips to Petsmart to name a few. I am always guarded that the trip remains positive for her. I think she enjoys our trips.

Deputy I. Merriman and K9 'Andor' 🐾

Deputy Merriman boasts an impressive professional background, having dedicated a cumulative 4 years to the San Saba County Sheriff’s Office, complemented by prior service in Texas State law enforcement and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). His wealth of expertise extends to various State certifications, including Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Exterior Response to Active Shooter Events (ERASE). Notably, Deputy Merriman holds the designation of an Intermediate Peace Officer from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, a testament to the extensive hours he has invested in training. Transitioning from his role as a mental health officer, Deputy Merriman now serves as our K9 handler.

Deputy Merriman is inseparable from his four-legged partner, Deputy K9 ‘Andor’, the newest addition to our law enforcement division. Coming from the Netherlands with his own passport, this 4-year-old Belgian Malinois previously served as a personal protection dog. Deputy K9 Andor excels in narcotic detection and apprehension, showcasing an exceptional ability to track evading subjects and locate missing individuals. When the pair isn’t actively patrolling, they are often found training. As a dual-purpose K9, he is committed to combating the county's drug problem while ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

When questioned about his choice to call San Saba County home, Deputy Merriman expressed admiration for the hardworking people in the community. He values the opportunity to raise his children in an environment that fosters qualities such as honesty, respect, adaptability, and compassion. Serving with the San Saba County Sheriff’s Office allows Deputy Merriman to contribute meaningfully to the community's progress. He credits the department's leadership for encouraging excellence and upholding a higher standard of service.

It was great to have K9 Andor and his handler return to us and do some training this weekend. As always, we offer training sessions to any of Saber’s dogs at their convenience free of charge.
K9 Andor is doing well and it was great to spend time with the them and see the growth they have since handler school. Next time, I am sure his handler will check the weather before their next trip!

It makes me extremely proud to see that the San Saba Sheriff’s Office’s K9 Andor are continuing to make their “mark” in their community. It’s impressive to see that the Department understands the impact a K9 program can make with in the community. The dog has power that’s often over looked by most administrations. These kids will remember K9 Andor’s visit for years, if not their lifetime. They had the opportunity to ask questions and see K9 Ardor and his handler. A successful program is not about just statistics, but the overall impact the dog can make serving the community.
