So much fun at our mounted archery program for children! We learned to halt and steer without reins (essential for freeing up hands to hold your bow and arrows) and then practiced shooting in a new course.

Autumn is sneaking in, and Russet and I are making the most of these absolutely perfect riding days. It’s dried out enough that there are stretches of formerly boggy trail that make nice long canters and gallops now.

We are actually offering a 2 day per week lease with Russet, so if you’re pining for a between-the-ears view like this, please reach out!

Explore a hundred miles of interconnected bridle trails in Northern Westchester with Russet, the safe and reliable bedrock of our eclectic program. She gives quiet w/t lessons to our smallest riders, builds the confidence of our adult beginners, and is the good-natured star of our equestrian vaulting and mounted archery programs. For more experienced riders, she’s simply the most fun – the horse you can trust to be sensible in any situation, but who will be just as excited as you to go for a nice gallop! She is the best partner on hunter paces, and provides the steadying influence for other horses in new or exciting environments.

Russet is a fully trained western horse with lots of “buttons” and a true one-handed neck rein, but also goes beautifully in English tack.

Come meet her today and take advantage of this gorgeous riding weather!

Lease details

Russet is available for a partial lease of 2 rides per week, with a 6-12 month commitment preferred. One or two lessons are required up front to ensure a great fit, with the lesson fees applied towards the lease. Western or English lessons will always be available, but are not required for experienced riders. You’ll have the option to come spend non-riding time grooming and bonding as well!

Note: Leases are available to clients who are able to independently catch, groom, tack, and ride their own horse. If that’s not you, but you’re interested, no problem – come take lessons with us until you reach the level of proficiency needed to lease your own!

Lune Hollow Farm is a boutique equestrian stable located in beautiful Bedford, NY — just an hour from NYC’s Grand Central Station by train. We love all traditions of good horsemanship, with instruction offered in Western, English (hunter/jumper and classical dressage), as well as carriage driving. Our facility has a small barn with paddocks designed for natural 24/7 turnout whenever possible, an outdoor arena with top quality, dust-free footing, and direct access to the Bedford Riding Lanes, a trail system consisting of nearly a hundred miles of interconnected bridle trails.

The Poet and the Potato! It was a PERFECT day for the Fall Hunter Pace, and our English/Western twins Russet and Tennyson did amazing. We’re so in love with both of them — Russet’s day job is teaching beginners to ride and care for horses, and Tennyson is a dressage schoolmaster, but I think both of their hearts are in galloping through nature. Whose isn’t?!

🌟🧑‍🏫Available for onsite lease: Dressage schoolmaster & Trail riding star

We call Tennyson our poet in residence, appropriate for a distinguished dressage professional like himself. He is a seasoned fourth level schoolmaster who has helped several riders achieve their silver medals, and would be perfect for someone looking to learn or polish their dressage fundamentals as well as experience upper level movements on a safe and sensitive partner.

Instruction is available on site, and you’d also be welcome to take lessons with your qualified & insured trainer. Our area of Northern Westchester has access to several top trainers and clinicians for additional educational opportunities.

In addition to the spotlight on dressage, Tennyson is an awesome trail partner (and when we say trails, we mean real trails – he crosses rivers, bridges, busy roads, and will give those foxhunters a run for their money at the hunter paces!). We have direct access to the Bedford Riding Lanes system, which means you’ll have nearly a hundred miles of beautiful trails to explore.

Lease details

Tennyson is available for a partial lease of 2-4 rides per week, with a one year commitment preferred. Lessons can be included in the lease fee if desired, but are not required for experienced riders. We also encourage relationship-building, and you’ll have the option to come spend non-riding time grooming and bonding as well!

They say that in ancient times, the fiercest warriors were the Scythian girls with their bows and arrows, mounted on small, swift ponies. These may even be the inspiration behind the mythical Amazon warriors.

Today, a girl practicing mounted archery is perhaps just as inspiring!

We’ve had the best summer introducing children to the very wide world of horses — we vaulted, we jousted, we explored the west, and this past Sunday we learned about equestrian archery.

While our summer series is over, we look forward to expanding these explorations and more — for children AND adults (because aren’t we all just here to have adventures with our horses??). Send us a message if you’d like to learn more!
