For the first time in my entire pet ownership I had to pay for grooming. 🥲 We just have not had the time to maintain the dogs and they were embarrassing to look at, especially since I know better. They all had freaking Talons and when Molly made me bleed when jumping on me I knew we had to bite the bullet.

Zoey put in some WORK on all three of them! They look like the well loved Millennial pets that they are. They all did great and were rewarded with a Cow Ear afterwards but really I did it for my sanity. 🤪 This house looked like a snow globe.

Friday was my last groom and today is my 8 year anniversary in the industry!

This job has a lot of ups and downs and it’s SO draining on your body physically, mentally and emotionally for all its various reasons that I won’t bore you with but I just wanted to give thanks. Without having customers that trust me with their family members I wouldn’t be where I am today.

In 2018 we were able to buy the 4runner which has provided us with SO many priceless memories in road trips and trails with friends. In late 2018 we were able to move into our Saginaw home which gave us a roof over our heads and became the central hub for friends and family to hang out in. COUNTLESS festivals and concerts to escape reality, COUNTLESS vacations (big or small), I was able to go get my monthly manicures as my self care time, I was able to spoil my dogs & Tony, I never had to worry about groceries but we won’t talk about that electric bill. 😂

I could have always taken more clients per day and frankly, charged more but I never felt the need to. I had everything I needed in life plus some. I loved spending time with my clients and making them feel their best. I loved getting to know my clients on a personal level and forming relationships with them as well. Don’t think that I ever took any of you or your time, trust or money for granted. I will miss everyone- including the naughty dogs so please keep me in the loop. 🥹

I haven’t forgotten about y’all!

We went up to Chicago for a week so my siblings can meet Baby since San Antonio is an even longer road trip and before Tony’s starts his new job. We got back and been full force juggling the dogs, the baby and still doing showings on the house. I think I have more of a better timeline of how long I’ll be up in the area still so I’ll nail down my schedule and reach out to everyone who wanted one last appointment. 🥰

One last groom with Nolan before I leave.

Nolan is my favorite dog because when I first met him he had to be muzzle for everything! Then we eventually grew a trusting relationship and he would only snip at your hand when closing him in a kennel (pro tip- use your shoe). Then it got to the point where he was trying to get me to play with him. He wanted to be chased around the room so bad. When I started doing him at my house he immediately made himself at home by rummaging through our dog’s toy box and sprinting around the yard with my dogs. On days where Mom could only drop off early we would go back to bed and catch a few more minutes of snoozing before we started his grooming. 😂 I consider him one of my dogs that I get visitation every 6 weeks with. Tony loves him just as much and he is Turbo’s best friend. Turbo loves his play dates with Nolan. 😭

😭 I have to break up with all of you. I swear it’s not you- it’s me.

Tony got a job offer in San Antonio so we will relocating in the next few weeks. We are leaving for vacation to visit my family tomorrow and then when we come back Tony’s heading down there to start work. Baby and I will stay up here until the house sells so I’ll still have availability to groom your dog one last time, if you choose! I’ll work on my availability this week but honestly we’re just kinda playing everything by ear so please be flexible with me.

I had my surgery yesterday and am not able to work for at least another two weeks. 🥲 I can’t have it wet or covered, unless I’m going into the sun they want a loose bandana over it so the humidity and pet dander flying around is a big no no until I’m cleared by the doctor.

Long story short is I had a patch of Nevus Sebaceous on my crown for years now and it finally tested positive for Basal Cell Carcinoma and instead of just removing the Basal Cell the dermatologist wanted the entire area removed so the threat of new cells in the future is unlikely.
I have a ~5” seam down the part of my scalp with 15 stitches and 6 staples. I’m in a lot of pain (imagine the worst migraine you’ve had in your life times 2 and then being kicked by steel toe boots) and on some good pain killers so I’m extremely groggy as well. I know y’all miss me and I miss you too! 😊

We’re coming near the time where I *should* be coming back to work but unfortunately I’m having surgery next week (of course that was the soonest they could get me in) and frankly I’m entirely unsure of what the healing process is going to look like. I will ask my doctor and report back to y’all as soon as possible. 😍 Just wanted to touch base.

Finally picked up my tools after two months to groom my own dogs. 😩 They were so bad I was so embarrassed to even call myself a groomer but now everyone is sparkling clean and 5 lbs lighter from a good deshedding treatment.

Turbo is normally stubborn and stiff for his grooming visits but he knew he needed it today and loved every second. 🥹

We’re still alive over here…. Barely!

Our HVAC system finally crapped out on us so we’ve been staying with family while getting quotes for the repairs. I feel like my life is moving a million miles a second lately and quite frankly, I’m happy I’m not working right now because oh Lordy would your pets look terrible. 😂 I would be too mentally distracted to give you the quality you’ve been so used to so in the mean time I hope you guys are doing well and the groomer you’ve been visiting has been treating you well.

Since everyone keeps asking I’m still unsure when I will be back. Baby boy is only 3 weeks old still and Tony and I are just taking life day by day. He’s looking for work and we’re both still adjusting to being parents, although that part seems to get easier day by day.

I just wanted to shout out all of you wonderful souls who have reached out or sent us gifts or flowers during this time. 💐

It’s not taken for granted and it makes me love what I do even more because I truly surrounded myself with some of the best clients someone could ask for. I get to spend time with your furry family members and use that money to survive (and sometimes splurge) and in return you guys treat me with respect and love me as your own friend or family and for THAT alone; I thank you again.
I have enjoyed my time off and so glad that I’m blessed with a job where I can soak up all these little baby cuddles and newborn smell while also not worrying about the 💩storm that awaits my return. LOL

He’s finally here! 🍼👶🏻

The newest member of the Sounavong family, and future employee, graced us with his presence on Wednesday, 5/31. Mom, baby and dad are all happy and healthy and so, so blessed. We finally get to go home today and settle into our new normal.

Just a life update! No baby yet!

His due date is 6/1 but we have an induction scheduled for the following week hoping he decides to come on his own. In the meantime I’ve just been working on my tan, catching up on some books I haven’t had time to read and just existing. The staycation and calm before the storm has been pretty enjoyable; albeit boring at times.

I’ve had several people what my plan is for after maternity leave and I wish I could tell you. I’m honestly just living day by day at this point. 💩 hit the fan this year and everything Tony and I had planned out for baby, leave and career afterwards changed so we are just waiting to see what life brings our way for this next chapter.

I’m 38 weeks pregnant today and so far baby boy has no motivation to enter the world some time soon… but of course that can change at any minute!

Every Monday I’m going to drop a few time slots for Pawdicures because I’m sure some of your pets have turned into Freddy Krueger already. These will be at my house and shouldn’t take but 5-10 minutes each pet. TEXT me to book a time slot and don’t just show up because I will look the troll under the bridge 😂

A glimpse behind the curtain over here.

When I started grooming at home I was originally doing it in the garage to contain the mess OUT of my house but with temperatures rising and more booking I knew I had to move indoors. The only room that made sense was my Babe Cave. I repainted, removed the chair rail, ripped up the carpet and got to business. I made this little 10x10 room my “salon” for a little bit over a year. It made my house an absolute disaster with never ending dust bunnies of fur, countless potty accidents to clean up and LOTS of clients in & out of here. Most of the clients got free roam of the house to calm their nerves so I truly made my house their home.
As soon as I found out I was pregnant I knew there was no way I’d be grooming at home anymore. I wanted to take control of my house again and make it feel like our cozy home versus a place of business. Something I could be proud of and be happy to bring a child into. The closer I got to taking maternity leave the more antsy I got to start nesting the home and getting everything ready… because frankly children are born on their own time and we had some big renovations planned that I wanted done before he was born.
I want to thank everyone for being so flexible with me moving grooming locations the last month or so. I really needed that extra time to get everything together but I was not going to start renovations while still grooming. It was just too much to handle all at one time. Now that the nursery is finished I could focus on making the salon into a proper guest room/office.
Let me tell you!! I love your dogs. I love that y’all trusted me to take care of them in my home BUT I love my home even more. With all the renovations and everything new & shiny I can actually breathe in my own home again (in case y’all didn’t know I’m really allergic to dogs & cats so having all that dander in my home KILLED my sinuses). I’m excited for baby boy to come and it brings me a sense of pride knowing that all this was possible because of you guys. Tony and I made sacrifices to keep a roof over our heads and now as our life book starts a new chapter all those sacrifices were worth it. We remodeled & nested two bedrooms in the house and are just (in)patiently waiting for our new bundle of joy to arrive. Don’t worry! I’ll update y’all as soon as he’s here. 😍

Yesterday was my official last day before maternity leave! I had to reschedule Enzo due to my own scheduling mixup a few weeks ago. 🫣

I hired him and trained him many moons ago so I know you’ll be in good hands. I’ve been put on a very strict 10 lb weight limit so that makes my job nearly impossible. I had slightly anticipated a weight limit towards the end which is why I scheduled myself for leave so far ahead of my due date because I didn’t want to have to cancel so many appointments.

I only have a few more weeks left so in the mean time one of these two men will be my full time helpers. They will be doing everything but the haircut so you’ll probably see them at check in/out. Say hi!

By golly Miss Molly! She was matted all over with the exception of her ears & tail. I was able to demat the top of her head to keep her looking a little more feminine.

Her owners admitted they weren’t the best at brushing but they were keeping her on a routine bath at home. I hear this one a lot! When you are bathing your long haired dogs at home they have to be brushed & combed BEFORE the bath to make sure they are entirely mat free, then bathe and brush again afterwards. When you bathe a mat they actually get tighter once they dry so your dog will be clean & soft but you’re making the mats worse. 😫

Kimberleigh seriously lost 3+ lbs of compacted undercoat today! We had to do some spot shaving on her underside but I was able to save majority of her coat even though I assumed it would have to be shaved off.

I hope everyone stayed warm & safe during our annual ice over. My dogs got cabin fever but I got it worse!

I started repainting baby’s nursery while the husband turned himself into a Circuit City employee. The dogs loved frolicking in the yard & had to be bribed to come back inside. ❄️❄️❄️
