SWEET POTATO APPLE TWISTS๐ ๐
This recipe requires two to three large sweet potatoes (equivalent to three cups), one medium-sized apple (Honey-crisp are great, but any type will work!), three cups of whole wheat flour, and two eggs.
To begin with, I clean my sweet potatoes and apples by soaking them in a mixture of vinegar and water. After cutting my sweet potatoes in half, I place them in an oven preheated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 40 minutes. To get started, I used a grater to shred an apple into a bowl for combining the ingredients. After the sweet potatoes have been cooked, give them 10 minutes to cool and then start peeling the skin off. Start by mashing sweet potatoes in a bowl and make sure to measure out 3 cups of it when finished. Then, crack 2 eggs into the bowl. To finish off, I combine all the ingredients together and gradually add 3 cups of whole wheat flour.
It is typical for this type of flour to be slightly sticky. After mixing the dough, I will store it in the refrigerator for about 35 minutes. After preparing the dough, I spread some flour on a flat surface and place the dough there. I break the dough ball into 16 small parts and roll them out to make 10-inch-long โlogsโ. I then twist 2 of these โlogsโ together, forming a unique twisting pattern. I continue to do that and I am left with 8, 10in twists. I cut each twist in half, so in total Iโm left with 16 twists. To bake, I place them in a 375 degree oven on a lined baking pan for 40 minutes, flipping at 20 minutes. After removing it from the oven, I let it rest for 10 minutes before putting it on a cooling rack.
*This next part is optional*
I then will put the pieces in a dehydrator and adjust the temperature to 185ยฐF. allowing it to run for 4 hours in order to get an extra crunchy texture.
