DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue is a canine rescue based, 501 (C)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to rescuing, fostering and finding qualified adopters for many homeless Cocker Spaniels in the DFW Metroplex. Each dog is fully vetted with spay/neuter, full rounds of shots, with special attention to ears and eyes. We also educate the public on the proper care and needs of Cocker Spaniels and the con

tinuing need to spay and neuter our animals. Our first priority is taking the dogs from a kill shelter. We take in dogs with mange, puppy mill raid dogs, abused, and senior dogs, not just the young and healthy. We have been doing rescue work for many years. It is a labor of love for our breed and dogs in general.

💘 FOSTER NEEDED: Tex 💘

Meet Tex!

Tex is a lively 5-year-old retired show Cocker Spaniel. He has been living life with his canine mama but is now ready to strike out on his own! His human mama is also in failing health and needs to find him a new place. To bring Tex into our program, we need first to have a foster home where he can start his new life.

When our volunteer met him, Tex was super sweet and friendly from the very beginning. He loves attention. He likes to play ball constantly and wakes up with one in his mouth. He has an abundance of energy and a friendly, energetic, merry disposition. He frequently came up for pats, then was gone again. During the 30-40 minutes that the volunteer was there, he played or jumped around to be petted the entire time. The owner did indicate that after some time, he does settle down and will snuggle.

Like his mother, Tex has been a show dog, so at some point has learned commands and manners. However, he will benefit from some refreshers along with consistent expectations. He gets along with most other dogs, although he shows dominating behavior toward one other dog in the home. A potential adopter having another dog would need to do careful introductions.

Tex seems to be a good candidate for any loving home. He is EXCEPTIONALLY HANDSOME, appears healthy, and has a super sweet, loving, playful temperament toward people. He seems like a very well balanced and well-adjusted cocker boy. He is a real charmer! Will you be that foster home for him?

Please contact us at [email protected] if you are able to help or have questions.

If you would like to foster but you’re not yet an approved foster, please submit a foster/adoption application, found on our website here: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/

CRACKING OPEN A WINDOW DOES NOT HELP!
Despite the warnings, hundreds of dogs in the U.S. die every year after being left in a hot car. Someone you know may need to read this very important message. ⚠️🚙⚠️
SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.
Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.
• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.
• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.
• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.
• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.
• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.
• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.
• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.
Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS.
Please don’t risk their safety.
If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home where they are comfortable and safe.

🌈 In Memoriam: Wendel

I have been meaning to let you know about Wendel, whom we adopted from you in 2022. I wanted to let you know that Wendel passed away in February. At the time of the adoption he was heartworm positive and he had “something” on one of his lungs. The heartworm treatment was successful and the specialty vet thought the spot on his lung was probably residual damage from the heartworms. During a follow up x-ray last November, that “something” appeared to have grown and was diagnosed as likely malignant. At the end of January Wendel quit eating and another tumor was discovered in the tissue of one his legs. While we had a feeding tube installed and were trying to consider treatment options, he passed one day while sleeping.

I want to thank you for the gift of Wendel. He was the best natured dog we have ever had. He got along with everyone, including all the dogs in our extended family. I hope he knew he was loved and we tried to give him the best life possible.

🌈 In Memoriam: Molly

Our precious Molly, who we adopted from DFWCSR on October 24, 2008, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 28. We knew she was the perfect girl for us and our Cocker Spaniel family when we met her at the Lewisville Petsmart meet and greet all those many years ago. Molly was the most amazing, loving, happy, sweet, smart, rambunctious, cuddly and wonderful girl and we miss her terribly.

She's with all her sisters, Alexis, Madison, McKenzie, Haley and her BFF Charity running happy and free. Our hearts are broken.

🌞 Introducing Chester!

Hello, my name is Chester. I am a sweet, loving, 1-year young, handsome, male, blonde Cocker Spaniel and I weigh approximately 25 pounds.

I was found as a stray and a Good Samaritan took me in. However, she wasn’t able to care for me because I have a lot of energy and her grateful heart is caring for elderly people living within the house. Thankfully she called DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue and lucky for me, they agreed to take me.

I'm an active boy! After all I’m still a puppy, and I enjoy playing chase with my foster brother, but I don't bite. I constantly follow my foster mom around the house. I don’t like being alone. She thinks I may have some separation anxiety. I love a lot of attention and you can see in my pictures how adorable and handsome I am so I get a lot of it. Sometimes strange noises scare me, and I’m also afraid of cars driving by when I’m being walked. I ride extremely well in the car and I haven’t had any accidents while riding.

I am crate trained, and we are still working on house training. I sleep in my kennel at night and when my foster parents are away from home. I'm good with my foster brothers and I’ve been good with other dogs and people that I meet, including children. My hearing is good and will come to you when my name is called. My health records show I’m in good health, but I do have cherry eye in my right eye.

I don’t have any food aggression, but I do like to eat. My foster mom keeps me separated from my foster brothers at mealtime to keep everything peaceful.

I'm a happy dog looking for a forever family. I would do best in a home with children and another dog to play with. I enjoy playing fetch and lots of toys.

Could you find it in your heart to love me and give me the best years of my life?

If you would like to meet Chester, please complete our adoption application and put his name at the top. Our application and detailed info about our process can be found on our website: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/

🌈 In Memoriam: Burney Page

They say where there is deep grief, there was great love and boy have the tears been flooding our home the last week. We unexpectedly found ourselves at the emergency vet in the early hours of the morning last Monday, where we learned our precious Burney was bleeding from an unknown malignant mass on his heart. We never in a million years dreamed this day would come so soon.

Burney was the biggest answer to prayers after our last loss. Turns out, we needed him as much as he needed us. He was truly the happiest boy and so loved by everyone. We could not be more grateful to have been Burney’s mom and dad. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us the opportunity to adore and spoil him during the time he had left. Though our hearts are completely shattered, we would do it all over again for the sweetest memories we were able to make with our boy.

Burney, we will miss your cuddling, bed hogging, ball fetching, treat commanding, stuffed animal loving, full of life self for the rest of our days. We love you!

💓 Introducing Dyson!

Dyson is a handsome, happy, tail-wagging English cocker spaniel. The first thing to notice about Dyson is how friendly he is! He loves meeting new people and will jump up to greet them enthusiastically. This gorgeous guy is a great dog. He is quick to adapt to new situations and seems to be smiling all the time. He is intelligent, wants to please, and responds well to gentle corrections.

Dyson gets along with other dogs, especially those who don't care much about their toys, but he would be just as happy in a home where he is the only dog. He finds great contentment with a good chewy toy and napping on his dog bed.

Everyone loves Dyson because he’s friendly, happy, and outgoing. His eagerness to please and delightful temperament suggest that he'll learn anything quickly, especially with an owner who can provide the love and attention he thrives on. Dyson's gentle nature and love for affection will surely make him a cherished member of any home.

Dyson is two years old, neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on his vaccinations, microchipped, and weighs about 27 pounds. He is housetrained and has no special diet needs.

If you would like to meet Dyson, please complete our adoption application and put his name at the top. Our application and detailed info about our process can be found on our website: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/

🌈 In Memoriam: Kandi

On November 4, 2008 God brought you into this world and after 2 ½ years of unfavorable conditions brought on by a breeder, DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue was able to take you in. In July 2011, we were looking to adopt another cocker spaniel since we recently lost one due to congestive heart failure. DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue was having meet and greet days at a local PetSmart. We visited with a few cockers and we weren’t able to find the “right” dog, until my husband, Kirk, saw you. You were under your foster mom’s chair, scared and shaking while all the other dogs were running around and playing. He told me, “Go get that dog.” The moment I picked you up we fell in love with you. The sadness in your eyes was too much to handle. We chose to name you Kandi because we knew you would be so sweet.

Your first week home reinforced to us that you were in the right place. You were scared, always hiding from us, especially Kirk. We later figured out that a man had abused you while you were young. We gave you all the love and attention you so desperately needed and craved. The backyard was your playground with rabbits and rabbit smells, as you would spend hours investigating. Just the mention of the word “rabbit” would have you running to the back door.

We will always remember the fun times we had especially when you would go to the ranch with us. The sights and smells there always kept you wanting more. Oh, how you loved the outdoors!! The walks we took together I will always remember and be grateful for. No doubt you were 100% cocker spaniel. Your sweet nose stayed on the ground and the tail wouldn’t stop wagging.

You were always tolerant of foster dogs coming in and out of our lives and you enjoyed playing ball with Jeffrey and Chloe when they stayed over for visits. You were always gentle, sweet, loving, so beautiful inside and out, and never got in trouble.

I will forever miss you talking to me, otherwise known as barking orders at me. It always seemed we understood each other. You knew if I was in pain, hurting, happy, and excited and I knew your emotions as well. The playtimes you had with Kirk were so much fun to watch. Watching him to chase you around the house, antagonizing you and yet you would run back at him barking for more playtime.

On March 16, 2024 our hearts will forever be broken as we made the difficult decision to lay you to rest. The cancer and other health problems were too much for you to bear.

Kandi, we believe in our hearts that you are no longer in pain and you are free. We imagine you running in the fields of heaven with Chipper, as I’m sure you were happy to see him again. Please remember us, and know that you were our baby girl. We will always love and miss you. Until we meet again my dear baby, run free. Daddy and I love you so much!

🌻 Introducing Jojo!

Hello Friends! I am JoJo and I love people! I have been hanging out at with a nice family for a little bit while recuperating from my previous life. My foster mom says I am ready to go and find my forever family now.

They think I am about 4, but I act much younger. See how handsome I am? I even have a heart on my head! I weigh about 25 pounds and love to be around people. I do my business outside, but a human comes with me to make sure. I haven’t had an inside accident in weeks! Yay me!

I had a pretty scary start and I am still a little scared of some things like loud noises, pool equipment, the BBQ grill and things I’ve never seen before, but when my foster mom shows me that it’s OK, I’m OK too. I have learned to sleep quietly in my kennel at night in my foster parent’s room and sometimes I take an afternoon nap in my kennel too. I used to stay in my kennel when my family left the house, but now I can stay home alone without incident. I’m such good boy! My favorite things are food, rolling in grass, treats, walks and ALL stuffed animals. My favorite stuffy is Lamp Chop that my foster mom says I can take with me. ❤️🐑

JoJo needs to be with a human who works from home or can be there most of the day. He still lacks confidence and likes to be with his human all the time. He will follow you wherever you go. If you work at home, he will stay right by your desk to make sure you get your work done. He goes potty outside but needs reassurance that someone is with him. A home with a yard is a necessity for JoJo. He walks well on a leash and loves to take in the new smells. He took some time to get used to his foster sister, but now they are pals. A home with another dog would be OK. Not sure how he does with cats.

JoJo is very intelligent and a course in dog manners would serve him well. He gets very excited and can be a little jumpy, but settles quickly. He has been working on sit, off and come. He definitely needs someone that will continue his training. He loves to ride in the car but he occasionally gets car sick, so it’s best for him to sit facing front with the A/C on and it’s not wise to take a car ride right after a meal.

Jojo is the sweetest dog and will crawl into your lap and give you a big hug with his paws. He doesn’t bark much unless his foster sister is barking. He does a little whimper when he’s excited, happy or he wants to go outside.

Would you like to meet JoJo? Please complete our adoption application and put his name at the top. Our application and detailed info about our process can be found on our website: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/. Once you are approved, his foster mom will answer all your questions and fill you in with more information on this quirky little fellow!

🌈 In Memoriam: Mason

❤️❤️ There has never been a little dog as loved as this one. Our sweet Mase crossed the rainbow bridge this morning and our hearts are broken. He was his momma’s boy and the grumpiest old man dog there ever was. From the moment I picked him up 5 years ago to foster him, I knew we belonged together. He loved the boys, his dad and his sister Stella too. He was my soul dog and he’ll forever be in our hearts. Rest easy, sweet boy. ❤️❤️

🌞 Introducing Beau!

Beau is a sweet, shy Cocker Spaniel/Australian Shepherd pup. He is 6 months old (born 11/24/2023) and weighs about 15 lbs.

Training: Beau is crate trained and working hard on potty training. He knows basic commands such as sit, spin, "in" (meaning to cross threshold or into crate), wait, and come.

Behavior: Beau loves to go for walks once he gets past the front yard, although big cars and other large dogs can be scary for him. He enjoys playing with other dogs and fetching balls/toys, but also loves his human companionship. While not a huge snuggler, Beau likes to be near you and enjoys hanging out on the couch. He has a love for meal times and appreciates a good nap. He rides well in the car but needs a little encouragement to get out.

Habits: Beau is big on all things chewy, bones, treats, bully sticks, kongs, but has not shown interest in household items, clothing, etc.

Ideal Home: Beau would thrive in a loving home with patient owners who can provide him with gentle encouragement to overcome his shyness. He would do best with children over 7 years old. A household with or without other dogs would suit him, as long as there's someone to give him the attention and love he craves.

Final Note: Beau is ready to bring lots of laughs and love into your home as the newest addition to your family. If you're looking for a loyal companion who's eager to learn and grow with you, Beau might just be the perfect fit!

If you would like to meet Beau, please complete our adoption application and put his name at the top. Our application and detailed info about our process can be found on our website: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/

🌻 Introducing Bear!

Bear is a handsome Cocker Spaniel/Australian Shepherd mix with a lively, outgoing personality. He is approximately 6 months old (born 11/24/2023) and weighs in at 20 lbs.

Training: Bear knows basic commands such as sit, spin, "in" (meaning to cross threshold or into crate), wait, and come. He is currently working on potty training but has started going to the door when he needs to go out. He loves to fetch a ball or toy.

Behavior: Bear is a big bruiser who loves to play hard and work on chewy sticks/bones. He enjoys going for walks and meeting new friends, both furry and human. He rides well in the car and is crate trained, although he prefers not to be alone in there. With a little patience, he would adjust well if he's the only dog in the household.

Habits: Bear loves to be comfy and enjoys lounging on a dog bed or the couch. After a hard play session or adventure, he likes to take lots of naps to recharge.

Ideal Home: Bear would thrive in an active home with another dog companion, but he could also be happy as the only dog in a household with plenty of activities and attention. His new family should be prepared for adventures and outdoor activities, as well as providing him with lots of love and cuddles.

Final Note: If you're looking for a spirited and affectionate companion to join you on your next adventure, Bear might just be the perfect match! With his zest for life and loving nature, he's sure to bring joy and excitement to your home.
