Happy Veterinary Appreciation Day...
I know that during the holidays people will bring stuff to their veterinarian and staff but what about the rest of the year? I like to bring something just randomly to my veterinarian and staff to make them feel appreciated. If I see something when I am out and about that I think he might like I will pick it up for him. Sometimes if I am going to pick up bagels for myself I will get some for the entire clinic. If I am making banana bread sometimes I make an extra to take to them. The smallest gesture can go a long way in showing appreciation.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Father's Day....
Happy Dog Dad Day!!!!

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) suggests:
6 Tips for New Pet Parents
1. Schedule a first check-up, an early vet visit will help to ensure the future health of your barking buddy.
2. Register your micro-chip in case your canine’s exploration of his or her environment leads to getting lost.
3. Puppy proof your home by both storing dangerous household chemicals out of the reach of curious canines and by keeping your pup away from the perils of ‘people food’ which can be toxic to dogs, such as chocolate, onions and avocados.
4. Puppies are more susceptible to ailments, so pet parents should educate themselves about the warning signs of sickness.
5. Puppies need structure in their lives and should be taught at an early age to go potty in an appropriate spot. Remember to reward your young Rover as he learns this bathroom routine!
6. After the 16 week shots at about 18 weeks old give your puppy plenty of outside time. Your puppy may not be able to express his thoughts with words, but his thumping tail when he gets the chance to expend his excess puppy energy outdoors speaks volumes.

Tick Bite Prevention Week March 17-23:
How do they look and where to find them
Identifying them:
To begin with, ticks look like tiny dark skin tags or moles
After feeding on blood, ticks grow to resemble a smooth grey, bluish or brown coffee bean
tick bite prevention week
Common locations for ticks on pets:
Armpits
Groin
Head
Ears
Neck
Paws and legs
How to prevent ticks
Preventative treatment
Treatments to repel and/or kill ticks on pets are widely available.
However, no treatment is 100% effective. So it’s essential to check your pet for ticks.
Ticks can still bite your pet even if you’ve used a preventive treatment. However, the tick will die within 12-24 hours, which is too soon for it to spread disease to your pet.
Products available include:
Spot-ons and sprays (usually up to 4 weeks of protection)
Tablets (protection can last from 4-12 weeks)
Collars (such as “Seresto”, which protects them for 8 months)
Choosing the right product
Depends on your location, your pet’s lifestyle and the range of parasites the product covers.
Prescription medications are usually more effective and cover a wide range of parasites.
Dogs who swim will be better with tablets. Swimming interferes with surface spot-on treatments and the chemicals they contain can damage water courses.
Never give dog medication to cats and vice versa. This can be extremely dangerous for your pet.
There is a tick on your pet; what should you do next?
Don’t panic, it does not mean your pet will get Lyme disease!
Ticks transmit bacteria to their hosts within 1-3 days after attaching, but only if they are carrying it.
Ticks should be removed as soon as they are found.
It’s important to remove ticks without leaving the mouthparts inside your pet’s skin.
Use clean tweezers or a special tick-removing tool to grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible.
Pull the full tick upward. Remove the mouthpart from the skin if it breaks off.
After removing the tick, clean the site of the tick bite with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt to one pint of warm water) or use an antiseptic solution.
Dispose of the tick.
Avoid crushing a tick with your fingers. Disease can pass through a wound or cut in your skin.
Dispose of a live tick by:
Putting it in alcohol
Placing it in a sealed bag/container
Wrapping it tightly in tape
Flushing it down the toilet
In areas with a dense tick population, you should check yourself and your pet daily for ticks.

March is Poison Prevention Awareness Month
Dogs tend to be curious and like to try to chew and eat anything within reach...people have the 3 second rule but for dogs it is an almost touched the floor rule. They also are good with climbing on things to get something they should not have.
There are many things that are not safe for dogs to eat here are a few to see more please go to our website at https://www.2cutehavanese.net/puppy-care.html and scroll down to find the list.
There are things that your dog will get very sick and throw up or have diarrhea but there are a couple things that are deadly like Xylitol that is found in sugar free gum, candy and peanut butter as well as other foods that we eat and fire retardant on Christmas trees as well as the glass ornaments on the tree. I am sure there are more and if you know if any others, please comment on this post so that I can add it to the list.
Please keep your fur babies safe by always keeping dangerous things out of reach.

Happy international Pet Groomer Appreciation Day!!!! Getting your dog groomed isn’t just a way to help your dog look great–it’s also an important step to ensure the health of your dog’s skin and paws, and pet groomers routinely check for lumps and bumps that might need veterinary attention. How to Pick a Good Groomer • Grooming after the last shots at 4 months. • Get the Bordetella shot yearly if taking to a groomer. • Make sure flea treatment is up to date. • How does she interact with clients, dogs and fellow workers? If you feel uneasy about anything, chances are your dog will too • Ask to tour the salon before making a commitment. Is it well-operated and organized, or chaotic, hectic and noisy? • Make sure it’s clean. • Groomers should be certified. • What kinds of products do they use are they natural products or commercial, chemical-laden ones. • Ask how long the grooming establishment has been in business. • If your dog is the anxious type, ask what the groomer can do to calm his fears. A good groomer knows how to soothe a dog’s anxieties. • Many grooming establishments offer standard services such as bathing, clipping and nail trimming, as well as teeth brushing, ear and paw pad cleaning, and anal gland expression. • Watch your dog following a grooming session. If he seems nervous or lethargic, or suffers from diarrhea for a couple of days, this indicates he is over-stressed and talk to the groomer about it.

Riley keeping an eye on the squeaker she just rescued from a toy and working on making enough holes so that it stops speaking before she can go to bed for the night. You should always work on taking things from your dogs so that no matter what the circumstance, you can get something that might be harmful or cause injury, from them if or when needed.

Havanese and rain....these things don't always go together....we hear from some people that their Havanese will not go out when it is raining. Well Flash, Luca, Luna & Charlie think that is just a myth because no storm has ever kept them from having a good time dancing in the rain. We discovered that if puppies are exposed to damp or wet grass when they are young, they don't seem to mind the rain. These 4 are crate and potty trained and looking for a furever home to teach a dancing in the rain tutorial. Please call Lola at 469-855-7993 to come see these guys. Please visit our website at https://www.2cutehavanese.net/peytons-house.htmlfor some pics and info on these guys.
