AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - ANOTHER RETURN AFTER 5 YEARS - MEET RAISIN.....

ORIGINAL BIO: Raisin was rescued from a local kill shelter where she had been brought in with her two littermates as a stray. All the kittens were very outgoing and had obviously been around humans (it is very possible that they belonged to the person that brought them in). Raisin has beautiful markings that match her sweet personality. She gets along with cats and dogs, but she especially loves people. Fill out an application and adopt this sweet little lap lover today!

UPDATED BIO: Here we are, almost five years later, and we are now looking for a home for Raisin again. She was adopted with her brother almost five years ago. Within just a couple days, her brother was returned because he didn't get along with the dog (with proper intro, he wouldn't have met the dog yet but we tell everyone that and they do what they do). At that time, there was a dog and six kids in this family, ages 2-11 (three of them four and under) so pretty much covering all kid ages. We got this email recently: "We purchased our cat from your rescue, specifically from the petsmart in McKinney. She does not get along with out dog and after 3 years is not good with young children. We bought her at least 4+ years ago but need her to have a second chance as the pound said they will euthanize. Please let me know if you can find her a home- I have no intention of recouping the cost to purchase Her or our $200 donation to your charity." There was no "donation" to our charity but guessing she means the adoption fee for two cats. Not understanding how she could have lived with six kids and a dog for all those years and suddenly not get along with them, it was explained that they now had a seventh child that was three and Raisin bit this child. But there's more. Then we got this: "If you need pics, she is good with kids if they don’t mess with her. Biting is not of her character and tbh I’ve never seen her hiss before today, but my step daughter did say she did that the other day at *** (7-year-old child's name) before I knew he was teasing her with paper airplanes." We did receive pics of her snuggled up with small children but for privacy reasons, are not posting these. So it's not difficult to imagine she was not happy about being teased by the older child and the younger one got too close. Feel pretty safe to say if she made it five years with seven kids and a dog and never even hissed, she's probably fine with pretty much anything. For her sake, though, no more small children. She's paid her price on that one and we want to ensure she is not tormented by kids in her next home. If interested in this pretty girl and you would like to meet and possibly adopt, please go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder). NOTE: Raisin is now front declawed.

BILLIE JEAN & JOLENE ALREADY IN A NEW HOME! Just returned on Thursday and they were already going out on Sunday. They are on trial which was best for them. Since they were still pretty freaked about all the change and to be in foster care, which is a zoo, it is best for them to not have to adjust to one setting just to be uprooted again. And since they were not going to show well, a trial is a perfect solution. You can't see them in the carrier, but they are both in there. They got a great app looking for two cats and off they went in just a couple days after getting them returned. If only it always went that way! Here they are with mom and daughter and dad waiting outside the room. There is another older sibling at home and two dogs which is perfect since they lived with dogs in their prior home. Fingers crossed all goes well and this time they have a forever home!❤🤞

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: MASON Mason showed up in the backyard of a family that has adopted two cats from FFAR. They also have Afghan Hounds and although friendly with the house cats, they were worried they would harm this guy. He was very friendly and extremely hungry so they crated him and fed him and tried to figure out where he may have come from. First they reached out on social media and even called the local shelter to see if anyone had reported a missing cat. When this turned up nothing, they contacted us. After having a vet check him out, Mason was not microchipped (he is now) but was neutered. He is young, vet aged at around a year old, and a beautiful boy. Possibly someone moved and tossed him outside - sadly, this happens more than we would like to think - or decided they didn't want a cat anymore. We will never know. What we do know is he obviously had a home at one time, but now he is looking for one that will keep him safely inside and keep him for life. Mason is a bit bossy with other male cats, but he is currently living with three adult male cats and has adjusted. He is very friendly and social and would be fine as an only cat, too. Although he hasn't officially been around the dogs in his foster home, it is highly probable he would be fine with dogs with slow and proper introductions (most cats are). If interested in meeting this handsome fluffy guy and possibly adopting him, go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder). (Second pic is in backyard where he initially showed up hungry).

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: TADPOLE was rescued from a local kill shelter. He was extremely tiny and extremely sick and would without a doubt have been next up for euthanasia. This poor sweet little guy was unable to open his eyes for over a month; he was basically blind and just sat in one corner of the room and didn't move except to eat and use the litterbox (when he could find it). Two trips to the vet and countless eye drop and antibiotic medications didn't seem to budge it until miraculously, one day his eyes just opened up! See his before and after pics and it is nothing short of remarkable. The good news is he is now vetted and ready for his forever home. This little guy has tons of energy and personality. He gets along with kids, dogs and cats. Tadpole had a very rough start in life and is lucky to be here. Let him show his gratitude to you for giving him a forever home! If interested in meeting and adopting this adorable little tuxedo kitty, go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder).

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: MAY was acquired via an email we received stating this, "My friend found a small kitten outside a store this morning. She is gentle but small. She cannot keep her she had big dogs. Is it possible you can take her?" Although the woman had to drive over an hour to bring her to us and have her taken by a vet for testing first, she willing did so and that is how sweet precious May came to be part of FFAR's foster/adoption program. She was barely two pounds when we got her and very sweet, obviously she had been around people. How she came to be sitting outside the convenience store all by herself on that day will forever remain a mystery. Possibly someone left her there hoping someone else would pick her up. May is very friendly and social and gets along with kids, cats and dogs. She's a beautiful little cat with just the right amount of fluff; not too high maintenance but super cute. If interested in meeting and possibly adopting this little cutie, go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder).

MINNOW ADOPTED TODAY! Yesterday while doing Dork's adoption at PetSmart, this woman and her husband were there and asked to see Minnow. They recently lost a senior cat and a senior dog and have a younger ornery orange boy that needs a friend. Minnow is so perfect! She is feisty and fearless and has the best personality. When Mom picked her up and she snuggled in and began purring, that was that. She went home and filled out the application and here they are today. Minnow got the perfect home!😍

Meet HARVEY!! FFAR took Harvey from the shelter because he was injured and needed special care. He was brought in as being thrown from a bridge but the shelter vet felt like he had been hit by a car. The skin covering his left paw was totally separated and had to be stitched back together. Harvey’s foster mom made sure he would eat, but he didn’t move much at all the first week. There was concern that Harvey’s right leg wasn’t working and x rays at FFAR’s vet showed his right leg was actually broken. Our vet has splinted it and our hope is that it will quickly heal. Despite two serious front leg injuries, Harvey is a total love. The shelter thought he was feral without recognizing how much pain he was in and clipped his ear. There isn’t however a mean bone in his body. When he sees people he starts purring even before they pet him, despite all he’s been through. FFAR is happy to have been able to help this little guy who hopefully will be better soon.

BONDED PAIR AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: JOLENE & BILLIE JEAN were originally adopted out as a kittens at four months of age. Recently (five years later) we got a notice from a local shelter that one of these cats had been "found" and to contact the owner. However, when the shelter was notified, it was learned the owners had left both cats at the shelter in a crate before opening. Both cats are chipped so the owners were called and told they had to schedule an owner surrender and they needed to come back and pick up the cats, which they did. Upon getting the notice from the shelter, Furry Friends reached out to the adopters and both kitties were returned back to FFAR. When asked why they wanted to surrender the cats, the owner said she would rather not say, but she was adamant that it had nothing to do with the cats. She said they got along with kids, dogs and were "sweet and snuggly." Pics were provided and these are what we are using to post them. Given they have been together since birth and are now five years old, we prefer they stay together. Both cats are now four-paw declawed. If interested in meeting and possibly adopting these pretty girls, please go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder).

DORK ADOPTED TODAY! Here he is with his new mama. There is another kitty waiting at home to meet him as well (slowly and properly, of course, and when he is feeling better and not contagious). Dork was a bit puny, but his new mom was up for it. We sent her packing with meds in case he needs anything to help him get over his kitty cold. The most important thing he needed to get better was a home and he got a wonderful one! Happy life, little Dork!❤

06/14/2024

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: ATLAS is our final amazing cat that was abandoned for three weeks by his owner. He is wonderful but the last to be listed because he contracted a kitty cold. He's all better now and was just taken to the 380/75 PetSmart today for anyone who wants to meet his big stately handsome self. Here is his bio: Atlas was rescued by a PetSmart employee who learned that several cats had been abandoned in a home by their owners. There were initially four cats but sadly, there was one senior cat over the age of 10 that was never found. She went to the home and took the three she could find to the shelter. Furry Friends was contacted and went to check them out and pulled all three. They are all indoor young adults. The house was a mess and they were left with no food or water. There was rotting food in the sink and in the fridge. Litterboxes were overflowing and the poor cats had been forced to go elsewhere when the box couldn't hold anything else. They must have drank from the toilet and ate the rotted food to survive because three weeks is a long time without care. As if this isn't horrible enough, these folks left a live guinea pig in a cage out on the curb with a bunch of garbage when they left. So this is their sad tragic saga. The good news is these cats hold no grudges and are still so very sweet. Atlas is the largest of the three and super friendly. He came into his foster home and with not even 24 hours of separation from many other cats, he was let loose and behaved as if he'd lived there his entire life. He is great with other cats, showed no reaction to the dogs in his foster home, and would also be great with kids six and up (toddlers might be fine but are an unknown). If interested in meeting this big handsome tuxedo and possibly adopting him, please go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder).

06/14/2024

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: DORK was rescued from a local kill shelter where the little guy had been brought in all by himself. He was (and is) a tiny little kitten and no clue where his mama or littermates may have been, but he had such a great little personality that he was immediately brought home by his foster mom. Single kittens in the shelter also take up an entire cage so when the shelter is crowded, it's good to make space for either more kittens or an adult in that same-sized cage. That was a bonus in rescuing him, but he sold himself and he still does. Although he did not have the kitty cold that is so typical for shelter cats, it was apparent he had already had it and gotten over it. His left eye possesses the slight clouding that is typical for URI (upper respiratory infection) in small kittens. For some reason, it commonly settles in their eyes and even when it's gone, slight clouding will remain. If there is thick scar tissue, sometimes it can be removed, but the vet said that in Dork's case it isn't that severe and he will just be an "as is" kitty. Often as they grow it diminishes and in fact, it has already lessened just since he's been in foster care. This in no way diminishes his activity and may not diminish his vision; although it may be a bit hazy where the clouding is, he's not telling us so we can't know for sure. He's a totally normal active playful little kitten. Dork gets along with kids, cats and dogs. If interested in meeting and possibly adopting this cute little ball of energy, please go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder). NOTE his eyes look like he doesn't feel well but it was tough to slow him down from spazzing around the room to snap this picture. He was just neutered and vaxxed so even though he seems warp speed, he probably isn't feeling 100% in this pic. The third eyelid will clear up, but the cloudiness in his left eye is who he is (read explanation above).

BISCOTTI ADOPTED TOO! Here she is with her new mom (and her mom is a previous FFAR adopter). Biscotti will live in her very own digs with another dog and a cat. Way to go for one of our three sweet cats that were abandoned in a home for three weeks when their owners moved out and left them behind. Necktie, also adopted today, was in that bunch. Just one more to go! Atlas will be coming up for adoption soon. Happy life, Biscotti!❤❤

We already got feedback that both cats were exploring their new digs and doing great. Awesome!❤

MARIGOLD ADOPTED TODAY! Finally we might add. Here she is with her new best friend. There is a doggy at home waiting to meet her (after slow introduction, of course). Grandma was waiting outside filling out paperwork. They lost a beloved cat recently and felt sorry for poor Marigold and her "I've been here the longest" star so wanted to get her out of a cage and give her a forever home. We couldn't be happier for this pretty young cat that has been waiting at PetSmart far too long. Sometimes the wait is worth it. Yay!❤

This is FFAR Ozzy’s adoption day. Ozzy was in the local overcrowded shelter and no one came to get him. He had been without love for a while. His fur was so matted our adoption partners at Oh La La had to shave him all the way to his skin. He’s doing great now and his new name is Sammy. His family is in love with him and says he’s adjusting well.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: DUSTER was rescued from a local kill shelter. The shelter was very full and needing to make space and his teeny self was taking up an entire cage. He was cute and fluffy and sweet so brought into Furry Friend's adoption program. Duster is on the shy side but only initially. Once he acclimates he is as sweet and precious as he can be. If interested in meeting this precious little fluff ball and possibly adopting, go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application. You will be contacted within 24 hours (if not, please check your spam folder). Duster can be seen at our 380/75 PetSmart in McKinney.

NOTE: Duster is FIV positive, but don't let this scare you! Kittens with FIV have a good chance that they will test negative at six months. They acquire the virus from their mother, but in many kittens, by the ages of six months they are negative. Even if Duster remains positive, he is young and perfectly healthy. FIV is feline immunodeficiency virus. Cats can live long, healthy lives with FIV. FIV is primarily transmitted to other cats via bites (must be transmitted through blood) and is not transferred via litterboxes or food bowls. The virus only lives outside the cat for 2-3 hours so it is not contagious to other cats in non-aggressive households. Actually, many people own FIV+ cats and do not even know they carry this virus. It is asymptomatic and unless a blood test is performed, there is no way of knowing if a cat has it. FIV is ABSOLUTELY NOT transmittable to humans or dogs.

If interested in meeting and possibly adopting this little silver tabby cutie, go to furryfriendsanimalrescue.org and submit an application.
