Slackwater Farm is a small, family-run farm in Southern Maryland that focuses on breeding quality chickens, goats and rabbits that are ideal for families with children that want to embark on a similar small farm adventure. We start with pedigreed/registered broodstock or better (none of our foundation animals are only pet quality). Our animals are chosen for their size, temperament, and functional

ity (meat, eggs, milk, etc - except for the rabbits - they're just fun, and not overly useful!), and are backyard friendly (check your local zoning restrictions for livestock!). If you're looking for a family pet, or want to produce some milk, meat or eggs for your own family, contact us to figure out how best to start!

At the start of the season, we weren't entirely sure how sound Juliet would ever be, despite her amazing recovery progress up until that point. We celebrated the first time we saw her canter on the right lead in the field, and then again under saddle. Look at her now! Needless to say...her future looks bright!

I forgot to post this when I received it; an update on Lance:

Lance has proven himself to be an amazing POULTRY dog. He is out with my free range chickens and I have not had any run in with hawks or other predators.

And Colonial Classic is a wrap! Victoria and Easter placed 5, 7 and 8 out of 19 in Modified Pony, 10 out of 20+ in the Classic, and 7 out of 30 in Hunt Teams with two kids on ponies that they'd never met, from Vintage Oaks Farm! Easter jumped every jump THE FIRST TIME - which we would not have been able to say at the beginning of this season. So proud of them both!

And grateful thanks to Sasha, for being the best sister ever (per Victoria).

"Roman" is a well-built, friendly, in your pocket pony who loves everyone. He, ties, loads, stands for the farrier (pretty well) and is great for the vet. (Not a huge fan of clippers, but we are working on that). He will be successful in any discipline he enters - driving, eventing, dressage, the hunt field...the possibilities are endless. To mature around 13.1H.

Parents are accomplished performance ponies with multiple national titles who have been handled and/or shown by.

Almost one year ago, we knew something was wrong when Juliet couldn't pick up the right lead. After Dr. CJ Caniglia's diagnostics, and surgery at New Bolton, we are ecstatic that not only is Juliet flying through rehab - but watch her canter!

Slackwater Magic Flute, aka "Piccolo," down in Florida preparing for the winter show season. We are cheering him on, hoping he'll qualify for Pony Finals 2024! He does have a younger half sibling for sale - same stellar dam line that brought us Pyron Easter Signature, S. Butterfly Kisses, and S. Mischief Managed. PM for info!

This past weekend, Victoria and Easter competed at the Kym K Smith/USHJA Young Hunter Pony Championships in Lexington, VA. After a 5th (out of 13) in model and a 2nd (out of 12) under saddle, they had two glitchy courses (no runouts or refusals, just inconsistent striding) but still came away with ribbons. I sometimes ponder the inconsistency in their hunter rounds...and then I remember that this is Easter's first show season, 8th show with hunter rounds, and she still placed amongst national competition (previous competition has only been at breed shows or local unrated). And...we aren't professionals. So I think Victoria and Easter are making their mark! Easter was my diamond in the rough; a vet even told me it wasn't worth trying to save her when she came down with Potomac horse fever as a yearling. Oh, how wrong he was!l

Roman used his round pen time to demonstrate figure eights. This boy has personality, movement and looks - can't wait to find the perfect home for this coblet!

And, last but certainly not least, weekend success #3! Three year old coblet, Fleur, is spending this season practicing her under saddle skills at the silver shows with Victoria (the kid). She hasn't been able to get her left lead in training consistently (if at all)...well, this weekend, she got and kept the left lead when asked! Watch to the end of the video - you can see what she thought of what was being asked of her by the end of the show :) regardless, love the brain on this one. She's going to be a wonderful children's pony.

Weekend success #2! Sasha and Victoria (the pony) made it over their "nemesis" fence with minimal struggle. So proud of them for working so hard to overcome their partnership challenges and re-learn confidence!

Weekend success #1! Victoria (the kid) and Ashland Wynsome (Moo) were able to canter their hunter courses - for the first time since a bad fall last year. Moo was Grand Champ Cob under Judge Hyde and also Champion in Low Hunter. Great weekend for Moo!!!
