Spring leaves are almost in full bloom. Summer kisses are yet to blossom the winter frost is vastly
behind us. What a beautiful presentation of the cycle of life the four seasons. Spring is my favorite time of year, so much to look forward to. So much is revealing with the full
pluming foliage, we don’t see what’s really be-hide the scenery.
Springs brings to light what we normally don’t see every day. Which brings me to an interesting subject
matter called turgor pressure. Hypotonic in concept for those who are really on board with this
Turgor pressure a topic I studied more than twenty-five years ago or more were water wants to go from
area of low concentration of substance to an area of high concentration of substance.
Meaning water wants to go where there is less water and more substance to balance the amount of
water. The palm tree is a prime example of this happening. Since there is a low concentration of
substance inside and high on the outside, the water will travel outside, causing the cell to shrivel up or
stretch. In the hypotonic cell. There are certain palm trees being used in New Orleans I notice while
watching. the news during all of their bad weather condition to battle high level of water concentration.
Call to action find a local tree conservationist and donate, Volunteer, or just buy a native tree in your
area and plant one. Mother nature is on our side we must take care of her.
