BCAC is proud to be a part of Chevy and many more special animals journey!

We want to share how the collaboration of DBCHS and Boyle County Animal Care & Control made for a happy ending for a special dog.

Chevy was one of our longest-stay residents, having been in and out of the shelter for 288 days. (9.5 months!)

On August 8, 2023, Officer Delbridge located Chevy running at large in the Lower Salt River area.

The 5-day stray hold passed and Chevy was officially in the shelter's care. As we got to know and love Chevy we learned what made him happy, scared, excited, relaxed and much more.

Over days, weeks, and months, we were Chevy’s family, advocates and cheerleaders hoping for his day to find a new home.

Heartbreakingly, that day would be given and taken away as Chevy was adopted for a time, before being returned to us for his high prey drive that made living with a cat impossible. This process of leaving a family, especially multiple times, is something that can leave the animals confused and scared.
While caring for Chevy’s 75-pound golden boy stature we realized he required padded bedding in his kennel space to prevent pressure sores. To further make Chevy’s time with us the best that it could be he received daily frozen enrichment bowls, tennis balls filled with treats, long-lasting chews, soft toys he quickly shredded and playgroups with his favorite dog friends plus all the pats and good boys he got from staff and volunteers.

Chevy persevered, and on May 18, 2024, he got his second chance and went home with a beautiful family with plenty of space and love to give.

While the shelter isn’t a home, between DBCHS and BCAC our sheltered animals receive top-notch care that enables successful adoptions. It takes a village and we’ve got the best.

Over the last few days, Animal Control has been able to help some pretty cute wildlife. These beautiful creatures were rescued from some unfortunate circumstances and now have a chance at rehabilitation thanks to our wonderful staff ❤️

It is Animal Control Appreciation Week! Animal Control Officers are the community's advocates for our lost or injured, abandoned dogs or sick/injured cats who have no one helping keep them safe. Animal Control officers are trained professionals who can help citizens who have dogs running at large in their neighborhoods. They are experts at knowing Kentucky's laws as well as local ordinances.
