Some happy news to start your weekend right! Little Bird found a home!

Little Bird (my nickname that became her permanent name) was found loose near a public pool in Fairfield. After 2 weeks of searching for her owners, I realized she was likely released on purpose, as is so often the case with found budgies ๐Ÿ˜ข I began searching for a new home for her and found the PERFECT one! Her new mom, Janet, had been considering a budgie for a long time. She is recently retired and has plenty of time and love for a new friend.

Janet could not be more dedicated to providing a great home. Though she has previous budgie experience, our knowledge of proper bird care has changed a lot over the years and she knew she may need to learn a few things. She met with me at Sugarcreek Bird Farm where we worked together to find the perfect cage and a variety of perches. Bernie, the shop owner, gave some pointers on the best budgie diet and helped Janet create a custom mix with her recommendations. After getting everything set up, she came to get Little Bird the next day and the rest is history!

Little Bird now enjoys regular mist baths, chewing her favorite toys, chattering with her mom, and looking out the window. She went from tossed out in the elements to cherished and adored as she always should have been ๐Ÿ’•

Never a dull moment around here. John and I went to dinner last night and saw this beauty on our way in. She was hunched over, eyes closed, and barely moving. Obviously I wasn't going to just walk by, so I knelt down to check her out and discovered head to toe scabs from scratching flea bites. Her ears are a mess, likely full of ear mites, and she barely moved when I was examining her. I could see she felt terrible.

We headed inside and I asked the staff if they knew anything about her. They said she had been out there for a while and they knew nothing, but said she usually wouldn't come to anyone. Another sign of how bad she must be feeling since she didn't move an inch when I approached ๐Ÿ’” John cut up small bites of his prime rib to save for her and we offered it on the way out, but she showed zero interest. We both decided right then that we couldn't leave her. I scooped her up (without any protest from her) and we took her home. As soon as she was in my lap I could hear the noisy, labored breathing of a bad URI.

I set her up in our sunroom to protect her from our animals and to protect our cat from any diseases she may have. She has a bed, litter box, good food, and water. I can't do anything immediately about the URI since vets are closed, but I will treat her fleas today. At the very least, she is safe and her basic needs are met. She cannot stay with us permanently, but I will work to get her healthy and find her a home if no shelter can take her.

I am calling her Rita. No idea why. She just looks like a Rita to me. If you would like to contribute to Rita's vet care, please shoot me a message. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Where I see a potty pad, Freddy sees a great snack spot! We are a ๐Ÿšซ carpet household, but Freddy always wants to keep his treat from sliding as he chomps. Usually he uses the welcome mat, but a potty pad did the job today! Don't worry, it was clean!

๐Ÿ Looking for a new home!๐Ÿ

After 2 weeks of waiting for the owner to come forward, I have come to the conclusion that this little bird was likely released on purpose ๐Ÿ’” With that being said, I am now hoping to find her a new home.

She is an adult budgie of unknown age, but appears young. She has just started to play with toys and has shown most interest in paper and balsa. She also loves to do zoomies in her cage, jumping perch to perch, hanging upside down, and even rolling around on the bottom. She is a sweet little bird with a lot of personality, though she is not interested in being handled. It is my opinion that she would do best in a home with another budgie, or at least other birds she can be caged near and talk to.

Prospective new homes will be required to send a video of their bird setup as well as vet references. Please PM me if interested!

I wish so badly that I could take some of these boys myself. Since I can't, getting the word out is the least I can do. Please share! Even better, please adopt if you have the room and your city allows roosters!

Freddy and Cathy had the same idea for this hot day. Freddy found a comfy spot and plopped down with his butt facing the fan. Cathy seems to enjoy the cool linoleum on her feet and belly, so she found the perfect spot to sit directly in the cross breeze ๐ŸŒฌ

When you have as many animals as I do, there always seems to be at least one not feeling well. This time it's Ned the guinea pig. Fortunately, what I feared to be a blockage of some sort turned out to be a UTI. Still no fun, but much easier to treat! A round of antibiotics and a few days of pain medication should fix him right up!

Along with today's vet visit, I also made a trip to Wild Whiskers for some supplement advice. Mariah is always a wealth of knowledge and gave me some helpful info on products to try. Of course, I also got a few treats for the pups and kitty! Walking back to my car, I saw this adorable (though very out of place) mallard couple enjoying the soggy weather ๐Ÿฅฐ
