Monday's perfect day 👌
Well, we were told "no" for two different locations...one because they were worried about the noise because they had a different daycare located there and there was constant noise issues so perhaps we can show them this video of how hard we work with the dogs on their arousal levels with people outside of the fence 🥹...we tried explaining that we're different than a larger volume daycare but alas...still a no 😭.
When your dog daycare BFF is the human and you need a few extra cuddles and when they give you some all's right with the world 🥰
Happy Happy Birthday Miss Kelly...we've watched you grow since 10 weeks old in Miss Maria's AKC STAR puppy class and here you are...2 years later...it's been so amazing watching you, Miss Olive, and everyone else grow up in out daycare.
One of two happy birthdays this past week...Happy Birthday Miss Olive!! 🥰
People always believe in separating by size, age, breed etc...but you can put puppies together in a "puppy playgroup" like so many places do and if they've developed undesirable behaviors themselves, (resource guarding etc.,) or don't know how to socialize properly, it's a "blind leading the blind" scenario. This 12 week old puppy started today literally terrified of Sir Brutus, (now nicknaming him Uncle Brutus 😄,) hiding when Brutus came in due to his size. (He is the size of a female Great Dane and close to 100 pounds) but here Brutus allows him to play/groom his tail and then nap on it. Theres so MANY bits of information that dogs need to learn from other dogs that humans will just never be able to teach so when socializing, it is most definitely quality of the experience over quantity. Welcome to a true pack miss Winnie...you'll grow and learn so much!
I have full permission to share this & PLEASE NOTE that if blood is a trigger do not watch until the end, but I wanted to share this as a warning to people with little dogs...so MUCH of the time behavior is excused because little dogs are "so weak," need coddling, won't hurt a fly, & anthropomorphism is so common in society today...& usually other dogs, (especially big dogs,) get to suffer for it...but if they finally correct a dog doing what this dog does or there's no deference in the handler, it usually ends up where the big dog is in trouble for it or, with lack of deference, the dog may ignore the handler, redirect & bite when over-aroused. Here, the amazing owner rescued an elderly dachshund with only 3 teeth & severe back issues & she thought the problem in the home was that dog & things progressively got worse until the owner tried to break up a scuffle & almost died from a puncture wound on her leg. I was out of town at a training conference when I received a panicked message from her unsure of what to do & she actually listened, did full management of the situation with an ex-pen we gave her until I returned to complete a behavioral evaluation & modification in-home. (I haven't posted that yet). This little chi has been terrorizing the home with her Napoleon complex & between a strict adherence to the behavioral mod, our AMAZING daycare dogs properly correcting/showing deference to their handlers, (us,) she can learn. This is yet another reason why our daycare is not just a standard daycare...we have taught each dog who comes deference, proper social skills, & will guide even this little gal who otherwise wouldn't have a chance to grow. Do not excuse the behavior of little dogs even if it seems small...as you can see, at the end of this video...they can do even more damage than you'd know.
These kind of updates from clients literally make my day...the day right before I left for my training seminar I fit in an emergency training for this dog (he'd pulled his owner so hard she slipped down the stairs). His reactivity was so bad I was honestly surprised when I evaluated him that day...anyways, my point in this, is that the owner, in the midst of moving houses, diligently took him out every day the entire time that I was gone & look at the difference it made! She was also open to trying a different type of training tool, (when so many aren't,) & because of these two things, the world has opened up for a dog that had issues just walking down a sidewalk who is now able to sit in a pet store. Kudos to this amazing pet parent & Mr. Milo enjoy all the reactive free walks!
If you want to enjoy the walks/build your relationship without pulling, lunging, barking, or perhaps want that duration in a down...give us a call! This is Cooper, Cooper went home after his 10 day board and train today...just look at how his owner's enjoying the time...did we mention off-leash! #dogsofdayton #doglover #doglife #dogsofinstagram #dogdaycare #dogbehavior #doglove #doodlelove #dogtraining

There was quite the celebration at daycare, awhile back one of our daycare dogs was not able to come any longer because at the time the vet was stating that she had some severe medical issues and would not have the greatest outcome for life... but her mums got second, (and even third,) opinions as well as did everything possible to help her...and this tough "little" missed daycare so much that she now had a full recommendation to come back part-time due to her progress and because she was feeling down/missing her friends so much! Love does conquer all, you should never give up, and lastly, you should always get second...and even a third opinion for everything! Welcome Back, Miss Shay, we are so proud of you and your amazing mums! #dogsofdayton #doglover #dogsofinstagram #dogdaycare #dogbehavior #doglife #doglove #tinydog
Our client sent this video of the progress she's made with her highly reactive dog...go back in time a year ago, and she could not do anything but scan the horizon for the next threat...but she kept working with her after training help and now look at her...and as I watched the video all that came to mind was this old school viral video of the "I'm a snake guy"...when you know you know...😄 goodnight Facebook friends thank you for being patient with us while we caught up on social media! #pitbullsofinstagram #pitbull #dogbehavior #dogsofinstagram #dogsofdayton #doglifestyle #doglife
Today was an extra special day...meeting a new friend named Oliver, playing with new toys Lily's grandmum bought for the dogs, and the BEST thing of all...she also made completely homemade beef broth, (cooked meat for it holy cow lol) added fresh blueberry, carrot, green bean, and froze them all for pupsicles...and boy oh boy did they all go bonkers for them! It made quite the mess but we do anything for the dogs and we are so blessed to have clients who go the extra mile to do the same! 🥰
Many people on our page here wouldn't know, but I managed 2 behavioral departments for 2 different shelters prior to retiring to open this, & I'd designed this concept years ago...but using their dog food ration for the mornings...and it was SUCCESSFUL! I didn't have a way to measure it's success because I was simply an Animal Care and Behavioral Manager...Maddies fund did a study and maybe now that it was scientifically proven to be successful, other shelters could use the design I'd created as it was night and day in the 2 shelters I tested it out at. The hardest part was getting the humans who'd pass by to consistently do it! Vid link on Maddies fund study below: results at 23:21. My vid from back in June of 2020 attached here...as you can see...success...so hopefully other shelters/rescues can use it! https://youtu.be/-CMZgKAQ59M?si=GVS2YhyiXqJm3yUD#dogshelter #dogrescue #doglover #dogbehavior

I had permission to share these videos of behavior before e collar usage and after...the little brindle in the vid has taken to constantly hopping the fence (multiple times a week) to chase off people, go into neighbor's yards, and is highly barrier reactive as seen. Originally my client was considering invisible fencing but as you can see here, how would that help with the extreme barrier reactivity all of them show in the video or teach them recall instead of ignoring cues from owner? It doesn't. The issue with invisible fencing is sometimes, like other tools, it makes it just too easy to not be accountable and train your dog/keep working on the relationship. The owner has tried treats (positive reinforcement only ideals) and the dogs could care less when it's so much more entertaining to run the fence or hop it to chase triggers away! One should ALWAYS try using LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive) methods while training...so positive reinforcement methods first, but once a dog learns that self-rewarding behaviors are so much BETTER than those treats/toys, then the utilization of corrections to interrupt those behaviors are key, and where so much confusion in training lies. So many dogs run through invisible fencing and the owner doesn't even know right away because they're comforted in the fact that they don't think their dog will run through...and then...is the dog going to come back through to return 🤔 I know I wouldn't if I was a dog. People say how horrible e-collars are, but what would happen if she bit someone, was attacked by another dog, or even hit by a car? I spoke with the owner today and she can be recalled easier, has only attempted fence jumping once, and overall it's going amazing! This video is Day 1 of using it and the hopping the fence was mere hours prior to my coming coming over to train! 😱 Side note: people (Including myself lol) must always be vigilant in what exactly we're treating, as you can see in the vid, the dog was given t
The beauty of owning a small dog club...getting to make the decisions to offer the dogs a full sensory enrichment day...watching the rain fall, smelling the air, even venturing outside to play! They're loving the day!!
Today we celebrated these 2 siblings birthday with whipped cream and cheerios pup cups...it was the most perfect day back! Everyone shared wonderfully...Miss Toff "allowed" everyone to partake and her bro Remi let out a few of his signature "hoots" as he was so excited for his celebration! 🤗
