Ruff Rescue Transport is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization that helps bridge the gap for animals needing a ride to a rescue. Without a ride, many of the animals would not make it out of high intake shelters. Our mission is to help end the needless euthanasia of dogs and cats by transporting them to locations where they are more adoptable. We partner with reputable 501(c)(3) rescues, who wil

l ultimately find our passengers good homes. Ruff Transport is here to do our part in helping these animals. Thank you for your support of our mission.

14 riders on the van Friday. After some drop offs, the final six headed back to my place for their slumber pawty. It takes them a bit to feel comfortable, but it's always rewarding to see them settle in.
This morning they had a 5:15am wake up to get the morning routine going. Potty, breakfast, meds, potty again, collars on, and another quick yard romp before loading back on the van. I start the laundry and some cleaning before we pull out at 6:30am.
They travel with me about 50 minutes north and meet up with the first set of volunteer drivers for Toni's Team that will get them to PA rescues today. I am blessed to work with such an experienced and wonderful group of drivers.
I always say a little prayer for them all ( the dogs and the drivers) as i pull off the exit to the meet up spot. Most of the dogs we help have been through a lot, and i know good things are ahead, but it can be scary for them.
The laundry and clean up from the Friday run and all the overnighters will take hours. Lucky me, when I make it back home my husband has already started disinfecting the runs ๐Ÿ™‚

5 different rescues helped this group of 13 that we drove all or some of the way on Friday . Some of the groups included our regular run and overnight for Toni Kennett and another for a run with Ruff Tranaports Cathy Turnipseed. It was a bit of a crazy day, but all made it safe and Waylon and I had a good time last night. Thanks Katie Ruff for helping with the huge crate clean and laundry in this cold weather.

Several days ago, a post was made asking for rescue help in a hard to reach location where 26 dogs were outside ( loose, penned and chained) and several had already frozen to death. The owners had little themselves and in a very rural area. The property was only accessible by 4 wheel drive.
A rescuer that's knows the area, has been a literal life saver. For the last several days, she has made multiple trips to take dogs off the mountain to the vet and to meet transport. She has taken pictures and did evaluations as best she can, working with Sarah at The Way Home Rescue Alliance, as each dog needed a safe place to go after they are off the property. She has ripped chains off their stakes because the chains had been around a dogs neck for so long it wouldn't come off without bolt cutters.
Amazingly, she has gotten all 26 off that mountain as of last night. The final 4 staying with her until rescue can be secured even though she has many fosters already. Julie, you are an amazing lady and a hero.
We did a small part by going down twice to help transport to rescue. Lots of miles, time juggling and driving, yet it was a small part for such an overwhelming and sad situation.
For our part, huge thanks to The Rescue Haven, Inc. for taking a mom who lost her babies to the cold and two more. Huge thanks toSICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center for taking a few very very grateful dogs. It really made a difference to the moral of those trying to help and of course to the dogs that are now safe and warm and will have a much better future ahead of them.

10 canine passengers and 6 feline passengers on board Friday. Happy to help them along their journey with a ride to rescue and some to the next transport phase. So many back stories I can't write them all here, but know it's a good good day for them. Thank you KY front line rescuers and drivers for being their lifeline.
Huge thank you Lamamcha for taking in Candy Cane ( the redtick boxer/pittie mix) under your shelters choice yearly program. She has waited 1 1/2 years for a chance to find her very own people and you are making it happen.
At her overnight she stole all
our hearts. She was scared of all the new changes, but ready to love anyone that she could .

Nice full van Friday! 9 cats and 8 dogs on their way to a better life. Four overnighted with us because they were heading to PA today with Toni's Team. We started the run at 6:30am and Toni's Team is just finishing up now. 2 playful, large Shepherds made it an interesting drive for all :)
Three of the four riders today were Shelters Choice dogs, and we are all excited to be able to help them get this chance (Thanks LaMancha!)
I had a new volunteer riding along and helping with the overnight. Thank you Katie for your time and braving the very (very) cold transfers Friday.

Picked this group up, and had a big slumber pawty Friday night ( 2 adults and 9 fat fluffy pups). Then Saturday morning we meet up with a multi driver transport coordinated by Toni Kennett and they are all safe with LaMancha Animal Rescue in PA.
Litter of 9 was an oops litter ( it's not really oops if you don't have your dog spayed๐Ÿคจ), the owners do love mom and wanted her to stay, so a spay appointment is now set for early Jan. That's a win๐Ÿ™Œ
Poor Frank is just scared to death .He was running for his life for 4 months before being caught. His past owner sure did a number on him . Seems like they decided to "train him" with a very heavy hand and of course he is now scared of everything and doesn't even know what he's suppose to do to please you. He does know it's going to hurt. Thats my take on it, but I really don't know what happened to the poor guys joy. Thankfully he is in the best hands now and can relearn that he is safe and won't be hurt again. Thanks to Owen county shelter for all they have done for him. They have very limited resources but are wonderful Big thanks to Lamancha and all their volunteers for helping this group!

Thanks to the Gary Turnipseed Memorial Fund, and your contributions, Cathy is giving kuranda beds to Martin County KY shelter this Christmas. One for every kennel. They currently have cement. Also, four high quality dog houses are on their way to our rescue partner there , Hillbilly Paws, so they can provide temporary housing until rescue is found. This is a small, rural community with very little help or exposure. Cyndi has worked tirelessly for years trying to get animals placed with rescues that can help them. Hoping these items bring some comfort while they wait.
Thank you Cathy- special big hug to you today - We Woof You.

We helped 6 get to their rescues Friday. No overnights needed this time, but we are always open for that with our overnight space!.

I know all communities are over run with dogs right now, but as hard as it is everywhere, some areas have the added burden of not having any larger , good local rescues. Often their shelters either don't exist or are quite frankly pretty horrible due to lack of funds ( and sadly sometimes lack of empathy.) They have limited community vet care and no low cost clinics. You end up with many litters of unwanted dogs just on that issue alone and a very short list of potential local adopters. The poorer the county, the worse it is. *Although there are always some poor counties that do amazing jobs ( due to the local people running them) and there are wealthy counties that are spending a lot of money and not much good is happening for the strays.

For these reasons, well established rescues often reach back to help the ones from communities like these. They help their own local dogs and reserve some space for dogs like the ones brought up Friday.
As an example, the Aussie Mom and her older pups riding with us were wondering the woods. Hungry/cold/in all kinds of danger. No inside space for them anywhere . They were lucky to find kind people to at least feed them and lucky that Hillbilly Paws got involved to find them a rescue . Now they are inside, being vetted, loved on, cleaned up, socialized and safe in a foster home with Rescued OH in Columbus. I meet the foster when I handed them off. She has helped 50 +dogs this year!! The others also have an amazing Cincinnati rescue . Please join us by fostering with a local rescue, volunteering or donations to a favorite group . These 6 got that needed ride and we appreciate your donations so we can continue helping. Thank you!

So far this week we helped Snow find a rescue ( the incredible Adopt A Pit said yes), and did a critical leg nobody was able to fill, on another transport. Six older kittens had waited weeks for enough drivers to travel to their rescue in WI. No, I didn't have time for this leg, but at the same time what was more important than this?
We also paid for the vetting for Snow. She is an older sweet gal that has been in a rural shelter for a year. No beds, no comforts, and very rare time out of the kennel. She is hanging out with us in the new kennel space until she is ready for her foster with adopt a pit. What a loving baby she is. Thank YOU for the donations so we could do all the above and more each week! I appreciate the donations more than I can say. We use extra funds to support rescues partners with vetting or temporary boarding, and we also try and help out the rural sending shelters/rescues who struggle getting any kind of assistance. More on that later this week .

3 overlooked dogs waiting for their chance got it this weekend thanks to LaMancha's Shelters Choice Program. It lifted the spirits of those rescuers who have battled to keep them safe for over a year . This is a very very happy weekend ๐Ÿ™Œ
These are pictures at their overnight with us last night. We have watched as these dogs have been posted over and over on networking sites with no takers. Imagine the euphoria when those battling to save them heard,
"Willie/Polar Bear/Summer has been selected to go to rescue this weekend". Thank you Lamancha for this Christmas gift!
Toni's Team is driving them to PA now where they will all eventually find homes and families to love and care for them. Big shout out to all the KY rescuers for not giving up hope .

Mom and her 9 wee babies out in the cold. The county shelter had no room, but they found a spot in a walk in closet to at least keep her warm and began networking for rescue help. Thankfully a rescue in PA said yes, and we did our part to help get them there along with Toni's Team. Thank you Lamancha

Lots and lots of beagles, some Pyr mixes and chi mixes got a Freedom ride with us this weekend. 16 riders total. We overnighted the 3 hunky chunky boys heading to PA with Toni's Team and gave them a much needed bath ๐Ÿ’ฉ.
Please
Spay and neuter and support your local rescues. So many in need, but only so many spots open to save them.
