Ruff Rescue Transport is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization that helps bridge the gap for animals needing a ride to a rescue. Without a ride, many of the animals would not make it out of high intake shelters. Our mission is to help end the needless euthanasia of dogs and cats by transporting them to locations where they are more adoptable. We partner with reputable 501(c)(3) rescues, who wil
l ultimately find our passengers good homes. Ruff Transport is here to do our part in helping these animals. Thank you for your support of our mission.

14 Riders on the Ruff Transport van Thursday and 2 Saturday. This group came from 6 shelter/rescue groups and went to 7 different rescues. I love it when the van is full- means more are being saved.
We took directly to rescues, dropped at boarding, meet other volunteer drivers, and another large transport.
Our main mission is to help animals with the life saving ride to a place where they can get help. Transport is a huge burden to already tapped out local rescuers, shelter and rescue groups. Thanks for your support of these rides and your favorite rescue groups!
Definitely had a Mothers Day run (s) this week! Sweet Venus ( beagle) was very pregnant and we helped her with a ride Thursday. She had her puppies yesterday - 7 little darlings and all are healthy. She's a love . ( thanks Rick Tabb and Barely Used Pets Urbana, Ohio and all others that helped her-baby photos at the end!)
Also had a mom ( sugar ) and her pup that were waiting to long for rescue with Hillbilly Paws. Thanks LaMancha Animal Rescue for saying yes and also for taking the two plot hound brothers. We helped Toni's fabulous Team with that run Saturday.
Lastly a sweet mom cat and her kitten also made their way to rescue with us .Happy Mothers Day to all moms out there !
Thursday Freedom Rides for 14.
Litter of 12 babies just COVERed in ticks π’, plus a sweet lab mix and a kitty!
"Love beyond words" is what is posted on Cathy & Gary Turnipseed's page. They lost their boy Hub on 4//29/24.
Eight years Hub landed with the Turnipseed's because he was on the rescue van, but had something broken or wrong ( we weren't sure at the time). Cathy wasn't helping me that day but I called and told her to come check this little guy out. The rest is beautiful rescue story I wish for every thrown away animal. His life was full of joyful, blissful, Frisbee-packed fun, new adventures, new dog and people friends and a very loving home.
The Turnipseed's write " Hub gave us a life lesson to be thankful for every day because every day is not guaranteed. Hub truly lived his life to his max"
Hub had immense physical challenges recently. Hub had his own health care team, that were so invested in a positive outcome from a syndrome he developed about 14 months ago. Hub was also known at their local Publix supermarket as Cathy & Gary tried to source food for his condition .
Prayers for Cathy & Gary as they navigate this hole in their life. Where there is great love there is great grief.
Hub gave so much in this life to his people and all those he meet. Everyone loved him. He will be greatly missed . I'm so very sorry, but know he had the best life with you two.
A large donation to the building fund was made in honor of Hub. He will be remembered with each dog that passes through on their way to a better life. Cathy Turnipseed Gary Turnipseed
7 Freedom Riders Thursday heading to 4 different rescues. π
Panda and her 2 2.5 week old puppies journeyed to Columbus πas part of a 5 leg transport from KY to a rescue in Canton.πΎ This sweet mama was tied outside with a broken leg and was starving. She and her pups are now safe & warm and will soon find their furever home home. Cathy Turnipseed made this run happen with the help of her wonderful volunteer drivers. Huge THANK YOU to all that helped with this run. Some of my long time transport buddies were part of this! Heather Steinbarger Deb Smith Kessler πΎπΎπ
We helped these doggies with a trip up Friday, an overnight, and the first leg of transport this morning.
Young Roo was to be euthanized because she didn't meet the "therapy dog requirement" that she was bred for π³π³.....
Glad they at least agreed to wait while rescuers scrambled.
Luke was "one dog to many" for the landlord so he got the boot from his owners to live outside. While outside, he suffered serious injury when attacked by another owned outside dog that was aggressive. Hillbilly Paws was the only one to step up for him and he spent a long time at the vet. Healed up now thanks to their care .
Arial was frightened of everyone and everything. Nobody's dog. She has spent a long time with Cyndi of Hillbilly paws to show her how to trust. She is doing very well now and is a cutie . She is off to rescue and will be scooped up quick.
Thank you Lamancha for taking these three .
The 4th , the cocker spaniel, was left at a kennel.
The dedicated drivers of Toni's Team are out there now delivering the 3 to rescue today where their luck will change for the better. Thank you for supporting us and other rescue groups. So much need out there it's overwhelming. Rescues are doing their best but the numbers are sky high.
π Don't miss out on the chance to support a great cause! Test drive any car at Jeff Schmitt Auto Group's 8 locations before the month ends, and they'll donate $50 to help animals in need. It's simple: You drive, they thrive!
Thursday riders heading east and west to rescues. The adult dog is pregnant and sweet as can be!
Lucky passengers on Thursday and this morning. Always happy to help them with the Freedom Ride!
Deb & Dennis helped our transport for many years, driving and overnighting. Several years ago Deb told me they were retiring, selling their home, and getting an RV to travel the United States with their rescue pack. I have followed them and their dogs on Facebook and it looks like it's been a wonderful journey.
Sadly, the last of their "three amigos" that started this journey with them passed away March 8th. They wanted to honor Mickey's 15 years of life by donating to their favorite rescue groups. We are honored to be a recipient.
Deb posted that Mickey was 15 years old and was the little engine that could. They gave him a great life and he had many friends all over the country. He enjoyed traveling on his 5 year vacation .
He suffered from cushings disease, arthritis, was going blind and was starting to get dementia among other old age things.
He was a great dog but now is a guardian angel.
Thank you Deb & Dennis for the donation. We are sorry for your loss, but also celebrate all the joy & love you gave each other. In Mickey's honor, these funds will be used to save others.
Only 3 riders this week on the van, but I think Cathy also had a mom and pups that she organized to get to the safety of rescue over the weekend. Thank you volunteers drivers who helped her with those legs of transport.π
Lots of work to be done on the building though and my husband is putting in lots of sweat equity! Hoping there are more riders next week π
Bartholomew and Jake are on their way to Lamancha today with Toni's Team. We helped with an early leg.
Bartholomew started his journey late last night when Hillbilly Paws had to do a very long, very early run to get him to Cincinnati to meet up with transport. Thank you Cyndi for pulling an all nighter to get him on the run.
Bartholomew was in a rural shelter for a year, and Jake is from a different shelter where he was very neglected prior to his arrival.
I had a very sick personal dog that had extensive surgery last week, so I was unable to help until today. Thanks to all that helped get these two north to get on Toni's run. It will change their lives forever .β₯οΈ
21 Freedom Riders Thursday all heading to a better life with six different rescues. Glad we could be the bridge for the them to make it to that new life. So many in need of rescue, and rescues need fosters and adopters to help more animals. Fosters are gold in the rescue world ! Please consider doing this life changing work through your favorite rescue.
Test drive a car and help a local Dayton rescue save more lives!
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Beginning today, you could take a drive in a sweet ride and help animals in need, during the fifth annual "You Drive, They Thrive" campai
11 dogs rode with us for all or part of the way to rescue Thursday. 2 dogs were boarded by Ruff Transport and are on their way today to a wonderful rescue in PA.
I drive for rescues partners that ask me to help bring dogs up and also for coordinators who handle some of the dogs journey with additional volunteers.
Thank you Cathy Turnipseed for coordinating the pups to Columbus Thursday, and Toni Kennett for coordinating the long haul with your team to PA for two of the adults.
I didn't get a photo of pretty Banjo, but he had a broken leg and was taken straight to the OSU vet hospital by a Rescued OH driver once we got him to Dayton.
Lots of sweet puppy kisses today! Cathy Turnipseed organized today's part of a 2-3 day journey to ACDRA fosters. Added bonus...she surprised me at the Lexington stop on her way to TN π Always good to see this lady ! She works out some of the Ruff Transport crazy runs that need multiple drivers. She will keep a run humming along until the dogs reach their destination. Thanks to all involved - what a sweet group. πΎ
6 pups this week on a Freedom Ride with us. We boarded 2 of them a few days until their second ride on Saturday with Toni's Team. π
We gave a ride to 8 sweet Labs today heading to Ohio Labrador Retriever Rescue Services They lined up fosters and vetting but I think they are still in need of a foster or two if anyone can help them out. Please message the rescue / contact Jennifer! If you'd like to foster or adopt. They range from 7 years to 1 year of age.
Freedom Ride Friday! This crew is safe and on to better days. No longer on the euthanasia list or at risk of being adopted out unaltered to be breed for profit ( yes, that still happens in some counties ). 450 miles but the window could be down for some of that- sure was nice out today!
Added bonus I got to visit the beagle farm where so many get saved with Beagles RRR Us πΎπ
Big shout out to Jennifer who made a very big donation to support the Freedom Rides and finishing up the new building. I've know Jennifer since Junior High School, but we lost touch for many many years .What a wonderful surprise this was. Thank you so very much πΎ. We are 100%volunteer and I assure you that we will do as much good as possible with every dollar .
Today we helped with the early morning leg of a run going all the way to eastern PA. Toni Kennett coordnated all of us in OH and PA for today's run.
Spike, the black lab mix, was a shelter choice by Lamancha. He was so happy to be out of the shelter- smelling the grass, the air, your shoes, whatever he could get his sniffer on. Happy guy!
The tan girl,Bunny, has waited for a rescue "yes" for long time, living outside. She is such a gem though, what a great dog! She won't be there long before somebody swoops her up. Location can change everything for these dogs.
The kitty is a stray from Cincinnati and has a PA adopter waiting.
Thank you Lamancha for taking these dogs today, their lives will be changed forever.
Transport Thursday! We helped 22 dogs from alllll over get to a better place today. Some have been waiting a long time to get a rescue. Some gorgeous puppies running the road found by a Good Samaritan. Several on the euthanasia list in shelters where there are few adoptions and lots of intake.
They looked so hopeful today. They knew something new was happening and they were grateful for the change, even though they weren't sure what was coming. Thank you rescues and sending shelter/ groups for helping this group. We are here to assist whenever we can to get these dogs/cats to a better place
This little lady has parvo. She was at a high kill shelter in TN yesterday morning. She got her miracle when Adopt a pit said they had a parvo foster for her, but they were having g trouble getting her to Dayton. Ruff Transport coordinated this with a volunteer single driver who has literally been driving two days straight to make it happen. Thank you Richard for this heroic drive. Thank you Adopt a Pit for saving her life! Thank you donors Jeff Schmitt Auto Group and all who help us financially so we could fund his trip and rental car.
8 cats & 22 pups/dogs on board Thursday. Out of their bad situation and now safe.
Lots of stories, I don't know them all. But if your curious about some of them:
The heeler/bc mix was on an Amish farm being "banded" ( very painful neuter process) and chained up because he chased livestock despite their shock collar efforts. π‘Thank you Adopt A Pit for giving a quick yes to get him out of there. He is THE SWEETEST boy.
Buck was a 120lb sweet senior lab sitting in a shelter, now safe with Ohio Labrador Retriever Rescue Services who already had an adopter waiting in Dayton!
9 puppies with nowhere to go found a place with RESCUEDohio who scrambled for last minute fosters . They also helped a mom and her 6 newborn pups from a rural area.
Barely Used Pets found space for 4 big pups from Harts , WV that we're living outside during the freeze.
Our Farm took in a sweet Felv cat and other kitties got to WI with help from another transport group we meet up with. Thanks to all the advocates that made these passengers known to the rescues. They facilitated much the back ground work to get them on transport and to rescues!

These 8 puppies were left outside on a cold night, in a cardboard box outside the Montgomery County KY shelter gates. Word got out on social media and the new Judge Executive, Chris Haddix, drove to the shelter at night, put those puppies in his car and took them to his home. Chris and his wonderful family fostered all 8 until rescue and transport could be arranged. As the new Judge Executive, he has many projects that he is working on to make Montgomery County KY better. We all know that the shelter animals are only part of his long list of challenges. But moving forward he is committed to helping the shelter get some help for its weary work force of two and support them in their continued efforts to find good rescues for as many animals as they can. To many people donβt spay and neuter, and don't care for their animals properly. The problem will remain a huge one. But, there are many, many animal lovers and advocates out there. Sometimes they just need bit of leadership to get going. Chris diving in to help those puppies spoke volumes. Happy to help to be part of this rescue story. Thanks Cathy Turnipseed for coordinating the run and securing escue for this little crew of eight. Thanks Heather Steinbarger and @Margaret Daum for driving them today in our OH frozen tundra to make sure they got to rescue.
The best Freedom Ride happened Friday. Rex has been at the shelter for over a year. He was such a good boy that the shelter was using him to dog test other dogs ( to get them out of the shelter) all this time. He was a perfectly wonderful boy that couldn't get out because of his breed. Adopt A Pit found out about him and worked hard to find him a spot. Welcome to Freedom Rex! πΊπΈ Thank You Adopt A Pit πΎ
