When you go from being a precious little baby boy to a legitimate property destroyer and heart-attack giver. Thomas already thinks he’s the c**k of the walk. THANK GOD for the persistence of .stegner who caught the little monster after 30mns. He already might have a little too much confidence. We got lucky today. Thomas 1 Fence 0. 🙄😖🥴

I think it says something when the crew cries over the loss of a lesson horse. We know it’s part of our jobs. And we know that our lesson horses are worth more than their weight in gold. What they mean as teachers, and what they mean to everyone in our own little communities. Well, a moment of silence please- because a good one has passed today.
Grover came here because he wasn’t getting along in another program. We never really were sure of what he was. He somehow was a very beautiful horse but also looked like two guys inside a horse costume. He loved and hated horse shows depending on the day. His gaits were sometimes confusing- with a trot and canter that would make you feel like your intestines were falling out one direction and a trot so soft the other way it was too much of a bother to post.
He was downright feral while he was ‘polishing’ his canters. And by polishing I mean literally hoping for the best and forget about the steering. If he was enjoying himself he would shake his head like a lion while cantering. He seemed unsure about this mortal coil- and was voted most likely to die on several occasions- I can count several times where there was a frantic call when someone else did night check. GROVER IS DEAD IN HIS STALL. Well, he wasn’t, but deserved his own Dateline episode for the number of times he faked his own death. He was old when he came, but somehow had the energy to run with the colts and be a general goofball outside. In fact, he once decided to see if his equipment still worked by mounting the little pinto mare that was out in the paddock with him- much to the horror of a family that had pulled over just then to ‘look at the horses!’
Cupcake, the pinto mare didn’t seem to mind- but Grover froze and slowly hopped down when I saw them and screamed ‘GROVER WHAT ARE YOU DOING?’
He was a unique soul who was loved by so many here who adored him. Many in our program leased him, or just looked forward to their lesson on this weirdly magical beast.
It was a hard morning for me. It never stops being hard to let them go. But he’s in the place where good horses go now- with so many of his friends. We will miss you dearly Groverton.

It’s not TOO late to do my holiday baking, right? Oh no…wait… Somewhere in Time is on. An eleventyninth viewing of Chris & Jane on Mackinac beats sugar cookies every time. Add puppy snores and some chili cheese Fritos and it’s essentially perfect. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you. A beautiful picture in front of the tree is nice but not everyone has ‘perfect’ Christmas- and that’s ok! I hope y’all get to celebrate any old way you want!

What a fantastic time we had at the 7th annual Sovereign Christmas Party. Tons of food, drink, and lots of friends! Loved visiting, the year end awards and wish there was room to post all of the pictures here. Congrats to the 2024 winners of the Millard Perpetual Trophy for Excellence in Christmas Stall Decorating! Greg, Kristen and Courtney Tomlinson! Their Jack Frost theme for baby Jack was perfectly executed. Close 2nd was Lynn Clare for her Doctor Simon (as Doctor Who) themed stall, complete with tardis. I already can’t wait for next year.
