Bianca and laila learning to work together!

Yesterday we decided to start working these two together. When having two dogs live together it’s almost guaranteed that one will bounce off of the other and pick up on bad habits. Both of these girls go crazy at the sound of a door knocking/door bell so this session was all about them practicing their “climb” command and staying engaged with mom while I knocked on the front door, pet both of them and did a lot of baby talking. Both girls disregarding me and stayed 100% engaged with mom the entire time. Having two dogs is great but it’s important that they can still follow through with commands and value their owner while together.

I’m so proud of these 3. They are the prime example of “it’s never to late to start.” These girls are 4 1/2 years old and this is their first time doing training. Lots of bad habits to break but with consistency and time everything will start to come together.

❔-What is a service dog?

🐾A service dog is a dog that’s tasked trained to help their handler with their disability.

❔-why can’t you pet a service dog?

🐾When you see a service dog out in public they are actively working. The reason you can’t pet them is because this can be very distracting and they can potentially miss a alert to their handler.

❔-What should you do if you see a service dog?

-Run up and pet them! ❌
-Politely ask the owner to pet them or even better, completely ignore them and love from a distance✅

As a trainer that trains psychiatric services dogs, I do have to prepare them for unwanted and strange pets. But it’s not something I want to see happen in the first place. These dogs are their to help their handler. they’re doing a job and it’s not for anyones entertainment. We understand they they’re cute and might be fascinating to you but understand that these dogs are potentially saving their handlers life and need to stay focused without any unwanted attention from the public.

Congratulations zeus for graduating from our 10 week private lesson program!

Zeus has mastered obedience in many different environments and around many distractions. His confidence from day one to now is almost unrecognizable. He holds his head high and walks like he owns the place wherever he goes. I am so beyond proud of how far we have come. At just 1 years old he’s ready to take on the world. Congrats zeus and his family for putting in so much work and getting to where he needed to be!

I see a lot of conflict with trainers when it comes to using food, or not using food. Is using food a good thing or not?...

I see a lot of conflict with trainers when it comes to using food, or not using food. Is using food a good thing or not?

For our training style personally, we are very food/reward reliant with our training. We do not want to force any of our dogs to do all of this work and get no pay in return. Rewards can range from food, toys, tugs, touch, water etc the list is endless is just depends on what YOUR dog specifically loves the most! It’s important that every dog that comes to us is having fun during training and that comes with a lot of rewards and constantly winning things from performing their tasks.

it’s not realistic to carry a treat pouch around with you all day everyday. Eventually, the rewards will fade out and will not be present during every session. But during the learning process it is a huge factor for us. We want to make training as fun as possible! So no, you will not need food for your dog to fall through with their commands once training is over. But once in a while it’s always nice to give your dog a reward here or there to keep training fun and exciting!

Brolys coming along nicely👏🏼

We’re working on:
-Heeling
-downing
-Place command
-Impulse control
-Food refusal
-Proper e-collar conditioning
-Recall

Real training that’s not compulsion based takes time and patience. We’re keeping our sessions short, sweet and most importantly fun.

Dog training isn’t for everyone, but it definitely is for me. I’ve found the light in my life doing this and perfecting my craft more and more everyday. My dream/passion is finally a reality because of all of you and your dogs and I couldn’t be more grateful for each and every one of you.

The best pov to have🥰 engagement is built off of motivation, relationship and trust. It’s important that your dog wants to be around you and wants to work! no leash is holding them next to me and no tools are being used. This Is just a simple morning walk spending some quality time with each dog before starting our day of work.
