We hope everyone is having a wonderful week! We’ve been a bit behind on posting, but the past two months have been incredibly busy and challenging for everyone here at the rescue.
August began with Yuki, a male guinea pig who arrived with ringworm. After treatment and care, he’s now fully healed, bonded with Gem, and ready for adoption. Next came three males and two females from Cherokee County. Soon after, we helped two guinea pigs found living in a backyard: Noodles, the mom, and Jellybean, her daughter, who has a rare ocular dermoid we’ll share more about soon.
You may remember Dove, the little guinea pig found in a box with a dislocated jaw and liver damage. We’re thrilled to share that UGA confirmed his jaw has reset and his liver is completely normal.
Our amazing adoption coordinator, Erin, also rescued two guinea pigs living outdoors. One, Buggy, had a maggot-infested wound, but after treatment, he’s parasite-free and thriving in foster care.
We ended August with Alvinia, a beautiful girl left behind when her family moved. She came with a large mass near her legs that Dr. Colby successfully removed. Though the biopsy showed aggressive cancer, Alvinia is doing wonderfully and being closely monitored.
While our intake numbers weren’t high this month, every case brought unique challenges and significant medical costs.
In September, we took in 35 new guinea pigs, each with their own story we’ll be sharing soon.
A heartfelt thank you to Kerith, Erin, and Catilina for their tireless dedication in setting up fosters, caring for sick piggies, and coordinating adoptions. And to our amazing foster and adopting families, your love and support make all of this possible. ❤️
