Dr. Smith receives extra training on her off time with Veterinary Emergency and Specialty of Tidewater in Virginia. She learns from Dr. Nobles, a boarded emergency and critical care doctor. This past week she had the opportunity to perform endoscopies and be involved in advanced ICU patient care.
At Summit we strive to continue our education to best treat our patients in Alabama. We look forward to serving everyone this weekend!

Yesterday Dr. Smith and Olivia were able to help out Pearl the goat. Pearl was unable to walk on her front leg after an injury. She was sedated and x-rays showed she had dislocated her shoulder. The Summit team was able to successfully get Pearl’s shoulder back into place and secured in a sling. We wish her the best recovery.

Our next employee spotlight is Mandy!

Mandy graduated from Lincoln County Highschool in TN with a license in Phlebotomy from Tennessee College of Applied Technologies . While she loved medicine she decided to pursue cosmetology at the Aveda Institute in Franklin, TN. After getting her license in 2018 she realized after a few years this wasn’t her purpose in life.

The start of Mandy’s career in veterinary medicine was in 2020 in her small hometown clinic. From there she knew this was her true purpose in life and it took off. While spending countless extra hours to learn and pursue emergency and critical care medicine she’s worked with a wide range of specialists over the last two years learning advanced medicine and patient care.

Outside of work you will find Mandy curled up with her pitbull Sassy or hiking to find the next waterfall.

During the coming weeks we would like to introduce you to our staff members!! First up is Olivia and her doggo Clark!

Olivia graduated High School in her hometown in Tennessee in 2012. She started her career in the veterinary field immediately following graduation. Upon moving to Alabama she advanced her knowledge and skill in veterinary emergency and critical care. She is currently enrolled in school to become a veterinary technician.
Olivia grew up with animals and always knew that helping them was her purpose in life.
She moved to Alabama with her fiancé in 2021. They share a home with 2 dogs and more cats than she’d like to admit. In her spare time she likes to hang out with friends (and their dogs) and enjoys doing anything that involves the outdoors.

Recently we had the pleasure of helping out Kurtis, the cutest little pig! He had a very large wound on his leg after a dog attacked him. Dr. Smith and Olivia sedated him, placed drains, and stitched him up! He is even going to get laser therapy on the wounds from one of the great general practices in Decatur. We love treating all species of animals 🐶🦆🐷🦎🐑
