🌸❤️This Friday is Valentine’s Day, and the U.S. alone is estimated to spend over $2 billion on flowers, many of which can be seriously toxic to our cats and dogs. Before you buy that beautiful bouquet for someone with pets, stop and check that you’re not accidentally gifting them something dangerous – their pets will thank you for it! 🐶🐱💖

Dogs have been by our side for thousands of years—not just as pets, but as partners, guardians, and friends. From ancient times, when they hunted alongside us and protected our homes, to today, where they provide us with love, support, and even life-saving services, dogs have woven themselves into the fabric of our daily lives.

But here’s the thing: they aren’t just animals in our homes; they are family members with their own emotions, needs, and personalities. Just as we nurture and respect the individuality of our human family members, our dogs deserve the same understanding and care.

The L.E.G.S.® Approach to Treating Dogs Like Family
Understanding what our dogs need starts with seeing them for who they truly are, not just who we expect them to be. The L.E.G.S.® model (Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self) helps us honor their individuality and provide them with a life that meets their emotional, mental, and physical needs.

Learning: Every experience shapes a dog’s behavior, from early socialization to the lessons they learn in daily life. How we interact with them—whether through training, play, or bonding moments—matters.

Environment: A dog’s surroundings have a profound impact on their well-being. Are we creating a safe, enriching, and stress-free space where they feel secure and fulfilled?

Genetics: Dogs aren’t blank slates—they come with inherited traits, instincts, and tendencies that have been shaped over centuries. Recognizing their genetic background helps us set them up for success instead of forcing them into unrealistic expectations.

Self: Every dog is an individual, with their own likes, dislikes, energy levels, and health conditions. Loving them means respecting who they are and supporting their unique needs.

They Give Us Their All—Let’s Give Them the Good Life
The unconditional love our dogs give is something truly special. They comfort us on bad days, celebrate with us on good days, and always offer their loyalty without asking for much in return.

Loving them back means going beyond the basics of food, shelter, and walks—it’s about seeing them, understanding them, and giving them the best possible life in return.
