Project Purr I contribute to the health and wellness of feral and abandoned cats by trapping, fostering, and providing medical care. Venmo: ProjectPurrMaddie

My heart hurts tonight. I received a call about a sick looking cat and was asked if I could help. He was transported to CAVES and put to sleep within 5 minutes of being seen. This baby had parasites and kidney failure. I’m happy I can bring them peace and love in their final moments but it does not make this any easier 🖤 rest easy sweet thing

I trapped this family of 5 in Deering recently. Mom turned out to be an absolute love. The black and white kitty was trapped last so stayed with us the longest and he was a snuggle bug and was very drawn to the dogs! These 5 are being socialized, vetted, and then will be up for adoption through Monadnock Kitty 😻

All 5 are Hemingway cats 🐾

It’s that time of year again: kitten season ✨🐈
Kittens are pretty readily available right now. With that, it’s important to be aware of how to responsibly acquire a kitten!

Did you know that in our home state of New Hampshire, kittens MUST receive veterinary care before being sold, adopted, or rehomed?
Even your kitten that was from your friends’ accidental litter, or the one that Joe Schmo found under his porch and gave to you for free. Yes - Every. Single. Kitten!

The health certificate law has only been around since 2017 so it makes sense that not everyone may know that they can’t just give away free kittens anymore.
While some may not totally understand it right off the bat, this law saves the lives of precious kitties, protects adopters from heartbreak, and prevents disease from being spread throughout the state.

We’ve seen it time and time again, a million variations of the same story…
•the family who gets a free kitten, only to end up with a sick baby and thousands in emergency vet bills
•the family who brings home a kitten, only for the little one to pass on parasites and viruses to other pets in the home
•the family who takes a kitten from someone who rescued them off the street, only for their family to soon be covered in ringworm lesions transmitted from the kitten

This law is SO important and a great step towards higher animal welfare standards in the state. Spreading awareness and holding individuals rehoming kittens accountable are the only ways we can keep our kitties safe! We have to do things better FOR THEM 💗

✨ For those looking at adopting:
If you are getting kittens and the seller/rehomer can’t provide proof of veterinary care and a health certificate, you are being scammed and they are breaking the law! You deserve to have some assurance that your kitten isn’t ill and won’t make your family ill.
Look for state-licensed rescues; they must meet high standards of veterinary care, plus the kittens will already be spayed/neutered for much cheaper than if you had to pay for the surgery yourself! And please report illegally rehomed kittens to the town police department to spare other families from getting scammed!

✨ For those with intact cats in their home, or with kittens needing to be rehomed:
Sterilization surgery is MUCH cheaper than paying for veterinary care for a whole litter, and certainly cheaper than paying $1000 in legal fines per kitten. Low cost spay/neuter services are available all over the state, and some may offer you sooner appointments if your cat is at high risk for having kittens.
If you already have a litter on the ground, many rescues or shelters offer a “moms last litter” program (including us!) where they take in the litter for adoption, and then spay mama for you for free

The only way to get ahead of the problem of overpopulation is to spay and neuter your pets -- those inside and those you care for outside.

UPDATE: Stormi has found his furever home!

😻😻😻
Meet Stormi. He’s an adorable little tabby boy, about 5 years old, who loves to snuggle once you get to know him. He enjoys playing with his toys and rolling around in catnap. He’s a little wary of loud noises and sudden movements. He would do best in a quiet home with a single or retired person and possibly one other cat.

Storm is currently in a foster home. Arrangements can be made if you’d like to meet him!

Maybe was in such rough shape but received love, warmth and comfort in the small time she was in our care 🖤 we always hope for the best case scenario but being the advocates for their pain is sometimes all we can do. Donating towards her care makes it easier for Spicy Cats to keep helping those in need!

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Maybe early this morning. After some diagnostics we determined her condition was too severe. Her bloodwork showed likely had raging cancer on top of everything else and, as our vet put it, overall her condition was not compatible with life. She passed peacefully while still under anesthesia. I said goodbye to her and gave her some love for the last time ❤️

I’m sorry we couldn’t have done more, you guys know I’ll go to the ends of the earth to give anyone a chance. This time it was too late, and this was the kindest thing we could’ve done for her.

Her bill was over $1,500. If you’d like to make a donation to her memory I will still include it in $10 Friday
Your tax-deductible donation can be made via credit card, PayPal, Venmo, or CashApp!

They are not mean, they are very scared!

People who don't understand feral cats will comment to us that they are “mean”.

Feral cats are not mean but they will fight for their lives if threatened. From a feral cat's point of view, they are the potential prey and humans are predators. They will remain quiet and hide from view when unfamiliar people approach. Even when feral cats are in humane live traps, they still try to hide. That’s why we always cover traps with a sheet, so the cat feels safe and stays calm.

If a feral cat is provoked or given a chance to escape he will put all his energy into defense. He will understandably risk everything to get away, as any animal that is frightened would. This behavior could be construed as "mean."

Please be kind to feral cats.❤️ They are trying very hard to survive under sometimes harsh conditions. They need our compassion and willingness to help improve their lives.

Project Purr is looking to make a trip down south 😬 Concord, NC is in desperate need for help with cats and kittens. They are overrun and many cats are set to be euthanized. We are willing to bring some cats and kittens up here for finding homes! I have also contacted Villalobos in LA on their situation of potentially 100 cats 😩 this would either be flying down and driving back, or driving both ways to come back with as many cats as we can fit! Villalobos is willing to raise money to cover costs but NC needs help. Please help by either sharing Villalobos post, or donating to Project Purr for the trip and vet costs once back with the kitties 🙏🏻

We need emergency placement for a semi-feral FELV+ cat. He can be touched but would rather be left alone. This is contagious to other cats, he needs to be kept indoors either as an only cat or with other FELV+ cats. He would love to be a shop, office, or warehouse cat where he does not have outdoor access, or live in a home with humans who don't bother him or try to pet him. Please please share this, feral cats with FELV are usually euthanized because no one can accommodate them, and many people do not want a house cat they can't touch, but I promise they will still appreciate a warm bed, good food, and love you in their own way 💖💖 PLEASE share this to help him find his forever home!

Valentino was part of my feral colony living across from my property. He’s still so unsure of house life and what’s in the house. But I moved him from the spare bedroom to the dining room so he can be a part of the action. He’ll see the OG house cats get some loves and maybe he’ll decide he wants some 🥰

Hi, my name is Maddie. My fiancé and I live in Deering, NH. When we bought our new house, it came with a colony of feral and stray cats! My cat obsession quickly grew stronger than ever! Catching the first mama and her babies, led to catching the second family, and then the third family, and so on! I gained a lot of experience over the last year with the help from Julie Schroeppel and now have the dream to turn it into a rescue. I have branched outside of just rescuing in Deering and would like to be a help to the cats in need in southern NH!
