Does your dog pull on his walks? If you answered yes, read this.

Most people wait until it’s become a big problem before they decide to do anything about it. Like when your dog gets too big and actually drags you, or trips you. Here’s the truth, the longer you let a dog perpetuate any negative behavior, the more resistant they are to change. That’s because you have let them get away with it, so they think it’s ok to pull, or jump, or bark.

The good news is you can change their behavior, by changing what you do. So, when a dog pulls, stop immediately from letting him continue in that direction. You can just stand still and then restart or more effectively, change direction on him. He goes forward, you turn and walk in an opposite direction. It could just be a diagonal shift as well. What you are teaching your dog is that you decide where to go on the walk. He will start to follow you, perhaps reluctantly at first, but he will get tired of constantly changing direction and stop pulling. Make sure to carry treats with you and reward him every time he turns and follows you.
