To all my hunters out there, with the start of hunting season upon us, I'd like to mention to you that taxidermist can always use spare capes in the shops. If you have a deer that you want to only euro (skull) mount your taxidermist will be greatful if you bring the whole cape for him/her to keep as a spare. They may even be willing to give a credit towards the euro mount. To the hunter that has killed their first deer and made a mistake when skinning will be so happy to know that their memory is still able to be represented in a beautiful shoulder mount that the cape was donated by a fellow hunter. As hunting season closes in on us, I want to give a little assistance to all the lucky hunters that harvest their game and want to do a shoulder mount. I can’t tell you how many capes I see that are not cut properly. This sometimes results in an unusable hide. The biggest issue I see is the improper cut of the brisket (chest between front legs) and the leg socks. Most hunters don't realize just how much is actually needed for proper fit. This diagram is just an illustration of the proper locations to cut to insure all hide is there to get your trophy mounted with no issues. Good luck this season.
