This evening, we were contacted about a possible orphaned Barn Owl. Rehabber Christy managed the call and inquired if they had already placed it in a box, to which they responded “we wrapped him in a warm tortilla”. There was a significant silence on Christy’s side 🤔. Following this and a little concerned, she quickly ended the call and arranged for a transporter.

Rehabber Amee arrived at the location and was welcomed by a friendly family holding a baby Mississippi Kite wrapped in a tortilla. 😂

While barbecuing and swimming, the family noticed the baby bird on the ground without any parents nearby. Concerned about the baby feeling cold, the mother asked for a tortilla to be warmed up on the grill to provide heat for it.

Undoubtedly, it was an inventive method to keep the baby warm, and surprisingly, it was effective. The hatchling is currently en route back to the facility. Wildlife Rescue is always filled with lively and unexpected moments.

PSA: You have a higher chance of contracting a flesh eating bacteria than getting rabies from an opossum. Please inform your friends and leave these gentle creatures alone. An opossum would have to already be ill and have a fever to MAYBE harbor the rabies virus...but a normal opossum has a natural body temperature much lower than most mammals. The virus can't thrive in their body.

Why am I sharing this? Because a man redoing his deck found an opossum living under it and threw her and her babies over his fence. THANK GOD, the neighbor saw this happen and saw babies scatter as the scared mom ran away. She hollered at the neighbor and he said HE DIDN'T WANT TO GET RABIES. 🙄🤦‍♀️ She carefully picked up the 3 babies she found and brought them to me. They were so scared and not eating after 24hrs on their own, I decided to tube them for a day till they settled in. Mom had been doing an amazing job with them. 😞 I'm glad they still have each other.

This sweet adult male was found by a precious family. He was belly up...he was not well. I think he consumed poison somewhere. He had bile and throw up all over his little face and chest. 😞 I sub-q and tried really hard to flush whatever it was bothering him. Unfortunately, I don't know how long he'd laid in the sun. He finally curled himself up and I was hoping we turned a corner. Adult squirrels are NOT easily handled! I was just waiting to get bit when he finally perked. Sadly, he succumbed to whatever he got into. 😞 Grateful for people who care and that he didn't pass cooking in the heat.

Skunks are some of the most playful babies. Having siblings is a must when rehabbing skunks. It truly is vital to their development and growth. Sometimes I have to go in there and tell them to cool it because one will be screaming UNCLE and they just keep on. 🤣 These two don't have open eyes yet and are already wrestling. ❤️ (excuse the video quality, had they heard me they'd of started crying for food 😬)

Please understand we ARE NOT state funded. We have a 1000 rules to follow but we do this out of the goodness of our hearts. We don't get paid, we use our own money, the majority of us have jobs, we have full rooms at our home where every extra minute is used trying to keep wildlife alive. We continue to take their homes and push them out of their territories. Please be kind and help if you truly do care. Understand this is a passion and compassion filled voluntary job.

First time trying formula for themselves. A couple were like ✌️💨 I'm not getting dirty. But several actually tried it! Just 2 weeks ago these sweet ones were 30g...now they are 50 and have eyes opened! 🥰🥰🥰 they will still be tube fed till I feel they are eating well enough on their own. So proud of these wee bits!

Me: I'm too attached and need to see these angels through- as I yawn with dark circles under my eyes-but I do need another closed eyed baby skunk to bond with my loner who keeps sneaking out and into the possies bed...

This sweet baby was found by chance because someone heard him crying. :( they found the nest with his other 3 siblings deceased...which means something happened to his momma. 😞 he was covered in flystrike and had worms. I sat outside and brushed the eggs out of his fur for 40 minutes. Some were so deep I just couldn't believe it. I HATE FLIES. HATE. I got him clean and bathed him in Dawn, gave him his first dose of wormer and started hydrating him. He is such a little fighter. He's flushed the worms and is eating and CRYING like a normal sweet skunker now. 🥰 So thankful for people who care.

It is time. I got my favorite, but sometimes hardest because they can have so many issues. Sweet baby stinkers! Two have bloaty bellies and arent digesting their food, they will start some meds and go back on liquids. The other 2 are rude and already flashing their bholes at me! 🙄🤣🥰

I'm going out of town so I'm meal prepping for my sweet ones. They require a perfect balance of protein and calcium and phosphorus. 🥬🫐🥚🍗 Too much of one thing can lead to metabolic bone disease. I want these babies to have the best start at life while growing. ❤️
