If you've sponsored a snail and haven't seen a picture yet, that is because we are working in sourcing! It is illegal to take snails across state lines without a special permit. That permit is still being processed! In the meantime, we are looking for snails in Texas, and it's not quite the season yet!

Thank you for your continued patience. Snail things move a lot slower than others!! We promise to keep you updated 🐌🐌

We found our first round of sponsored snails!!
Cornu Aspersum, the common garden snail, *petit Gris*, also colloquially still known as Helix Aspersa.

They have a wide spread in the US, and since they are qualified by the USDA and APHIS to be a pest and invasive species, they can be gently rehomed out of the environment.

We are pleased to introduce you to Shelliot, Snailgrim Ironshell and Brad Sebastian Cargot!!

May they eat lots of veggies and produce many eggs!!

Speaking of babies...
Our clutches of Otala Lactea are hatching! Baby snails are born shell on and will eat their egg for that first jolt of nutrition!
In a day or so they will have the energy to climb up through the moss and hang out in the lid of the bin.

Have you ever wondered what a pregnant snail looks like?
Look no further!
Its either get a tiny ultrasound machine, or rely on nature's cues. In Otala Lactea, this usually presents as a swollen mantle! Over the next couple of weeks I will be watching for any burrowing behavior. More snabies!

Eggs eggs eggs!
Snails will dig a hole about 2 inches below the surface of the soil to lay eggs in a pocket protected by a mucus layer!
Keepers should turn their soil frequently to catch their eggs before they hatch, otherwise you'd be run over with hatchlings.

Goodnight Escargatoire!

02/09/2023

We have Otala Lactea in the hatching cups! Its common practice to move clutches of eggs into smaller containers for monitoring and safety. Baby snails can get crushed by adults. Once they hatch and their shells harden up (usually about a month) they will be put in the juvenile bin!
