DOUBLE WHAMMY FOR YOUR DOG'S HEALTH

(K)ibble made with grains ( including the expensive prescription (k)ibble sold at your Vet clinic) will use GMO'd corn, wheat, and soy that has been doused with RoundUp. I've noticed a trend toward lumping all dogs who bark and lunge into a broad "reactivity" category.

I get it. It makes things simpler. And for many, the label of "reactive" is an easier pill to swallow than "aggressive."

But here's the problem: The underlying motivation may be very different, and therefore, the approach to resolve the barking and lunging should be as well.

A dog who is afraid of people or other dogs might bark and lunge to make them go away. The motivation is to *increase* social distance.

A dog is hyper-social towards people or other dogs might do the *exact* same thing. But the motivation is to *decrease* social distance.

And I firmly believe that social dogs should have opportunities for social interactions, especially if we teach them more appropriate ways communicate their needs. And I worry that lumping them into a broad category with fearful dogs might rob them of those interactions.

Like most things, it's nuanced! And over-simplifying it is dangerous.
