Over the past year, we've had the opportunity to welcome 56 CSU students into our extern program. For veterinary students at CSU, the Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur is a one-of-a-kind classroom. Our externship program in partnership with CSU's Veterinary Teaching Hospital offers two-week rotations for fourth-year student externs so they can gain invaluable hands-on experience before they graduate. Our veterinary externs are able to perform examinations, determine and execute diagnostic plans, and create treatment regimens during their rotation period.​

Externs are encouraged to take the lead in each of the cases they work on, but clinical instructors are always present to help guide and supervise them along the way. This program is made possible thanks to the support of Hill’s Pet Nutrition, allowing our externs to make a world of difference to thousands of pets and owners throughout the year and beyond.

Meet Zeus! This handsome 4 year old mastiff mix just came back from a foster sleepover and is ready to find a family! Zeus is a big softie who has really stolen all of our hearts, but here's what foster mom Tammy had to say!

"Zeus has been by far the easiest dog to foster that I've ever had. He is housetrained, crate-trained, doesn't steal people-food off the counter, isn't food protective, and got along well with my family and dog. He doesn't jump on humans unless he's super excited. He walks really well, pulls a little bit in the beginning, but I can tell he is used to being walked. But more than any of this, he is just so loving, chill and a gentle giant. Whoever adopts him is very lucky to have him. My family and I will miss him so much in the short few days that we've had him. "

✨ Meet Milo ✨ Milo is a 7-month-old, social, curious, and playful guy who loves chasing bubbles! He’s the full package of fun and affection.

Milo has tested positive for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). The good news? He’s at a reduced risk of developing FeLV-related diseases and can live a long, happy, healthy life with proper care. He should not live with FeLV-negative cats, but he could thrive with another FeLV-positive feline companion.

All 4-year-old Chlo wants for Christmas is you 🎄🐾

You might notice his face looks a little messy—he’s healing from entropion surgery 👀✨, a condition where the eyelids roll inward and irritate the eye. The surgery fixes that, and Chlo is feeling great and on the mend 💪💙

What really stands out about Chlo is his heart 💕. He’s incredibly sweet, loves attention, and would happily spend hours curled up in your lap 🛋️😻 soaking up every bit of love you’ll give him. If you’re looking for a cat who truly wants to be close to his person, Chlo is your guy. 🐱💫

Every year we see thousands of animals go to new homes and are always thrilled to receive updates with everything they're up to with their new families! We recently received an update about Sadie and how she's been settling in and loving her new life 🥰

"Cam and I adopted Sadie earlier this month from Humane Colorado, and she has been an absolute dream. I’ve wanted a lab or lab mix ever since volunteering with the Indiana Canine Assistants Network and furloughing service dogs in training, so she already feels like such a perfect fit.

We moved to Colorado a couple of months ago, and since Denver is such a dog-friendly city, it felt like the perfect time to add to our little family. She hasn’t quite figured out the whole “dog bed” concept yet, but she’s incredibly cuddly and already picking up new cues and crate training so quickly. Even in just a few days, we’ve watched her open up more and more, and I can’t wait to keep learning about her and growing our bond."
