Meet Lola! This sweet girl spent some time out of the shelter recently with our Chief Operating Officer Katie, here's what Katie had to say:

"Lola’s visit to my house was pure joy! She ran and sniffed and rolled all over. She’s curious and goofy - exploring from one thing to another in the house and yard. She wants nothing more than to be the biggest lap dog."

Meet Tiana! This sweet 3 year old pup has come so far since coming to us in August and has fully captured Registered Vet Tech Torey's heart!

When Cosmos (known as Curtis at the League), a 3-year-old black cat, arrived at the Dumb Friends League San Luis Valley Animal Center in December 2023, he was a malnourished stray found alongside two other cats in Alamosa. The three had been fending for themselves in the cold after their owner had moved away. He was severely underweight, had a fractured lower jaw, and a large, infected wound on his left cheek.

Despite his condition, Cosmos showed remarkable strength, patience, and a sweet, affectionate nature throughout his recovery, making him a fast favorite among League staff and volunteers. After days in the ICU and weeks in our shelter to heal, he was ready for the next – and best – phase of his life.

Athena is a sweet and spooOOOoooky girl who is ready to be your shadow! She loves to play and catch a good sniff from time to time 😌 Athena is a shy girl that will need a gentle and patient owner to help her succeed and be comfortable in her new home.

The externship program at Dumb Friends League—Solutions Veterinary Hospital gives Colorado State University veterinary students an opportunity to learn through our elective rotation.

You never know what you'll get to work on when you are a veterinary extern which is one of the many reasons why this program is so beneficial for our externs, allowing them to start gaining valuable real-world experience before graduation.

These critical teaching moments are made possible thanks to the financial support of Hill’s Pet Nutrition, which allows students to apply what they’ve learned in class by engaging in experiential learning with seasoned veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

It's National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week!

Vet techs are essential to the work we do every day, but many people don't understand just how much they do and the role they play!

Did you know, a legal license is required (via formal credentials as well as registration with the State) to practice as a Veterinary Technician? Our Registered Vet Techs have obtained that title through graduating from an associate's degree program in Applied Science and then passing licensing exams!

They must then maintain this license by pursuing continuing education credits, which means they're constantly learning new things and challenging themselves. Our RVTs are very proud to have earned their credentials and perform a skilled specialist role in veterinary medicine and we are so grateful for all they do and their commitment to the League!
