Volunteering as a therapy dog team has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever done. 💞 If you're even a teeny bit interested, reach out to Prelude Assistance Dogs! You won't regret it.

Therapy Dog Testing Information! *You must fill out the google form linked below if you plan on attending*

Prerequisites: Dogs must be one year of age, up to date on vaccines and a negative f***l within the last year, have passed an AKC Canine Good Citizen test prior to taking the therapy dog test.

A Little About Us!: Prelude Assistance Dogs is a non-profit specializing in service dogs and therapy dogs. Our dogs regularly work in assisted living facilities, public schools, universities and library programs. Our therapy dog program is recognized by the AKC, which allows you to accrue hours for a therapy dog title if you so choose to.

COST $450.00 - includes certificate, volunteer shirt, therapy vest, umbrella liability insurance coverage and brunch on Saturday
ADDITIONAL HANDLER $50
ORIENTATION: Friday, July 18th; 6:00-7:30 PM @ Sit Means Sit Dog Training facility on Douglas Ave in Urbandale
PREP CLASS (optional but highly encouraged): Friday, July 25th; 6:00-7:30 PM @ Scheels, Jordan Creek Mall
TEST DATES (YOU MUST BE PRESENT AT BOTH): Friday August 1st 6:00-7:00 PM @ Scheels; Saturday August 2nd 9:15 AM - 12:30 PM, day starts at Ramsey Village Continuing Care

The corn belt is expecting a heat wave this weekend with temps in the triple digits. 🥵 Papa Trek wants to know what you'll be doing to keep your pups cool. His suggestion? Playing in a sprinkler or chasing the hose sprayer. Unfortunately for him, our town is also in a lawn-watering ban which means I can't water Labradors either! 🫠

Last week we started the basics of keeping our dogs' attention through rates of reinforcement and play. We defeated some wild distractions and set reachable goals for each team.
