We keep getting this question...
We can’t have a dog, but can we still help?
Yes! Yes! Yes!
In so many ways.

Help find worthy families to adopt these amazing dogs.
Support Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control. You can do that financially. FoDACC helps in so many ways. Your financial contribution helps offset costs for animal care, helps with spay and neutering. It pays for publicity for adoption events. Or, if you have time, contact FoDACC and arrange for an orientation and come be a hands on volunteer. FoDACC members walk dogs, help adopters meet their new family members, help with tasks around DACC. You can come work a little, or work a lot. One of our favorite things to do, is give pooches baths. It helps them put their best foot forward when flashing those puppy eyes at a potential new family.
Have old blankets and towels...? it’s something DACC often needs. Give them a call and ask if they are needed at the time.
Talk to FoDACC about contributions of toys, food, treats, leashes, colors, and such things. They’ll direct you to where they are now most needed.
Here’s a favorite, that often gets overlooked. The officers and staff at DACC work so hard. A token appreciating the effort is sometimes the difference between a tough day, and hope. Dropping in to leave a box of doughnuts, a carton of coffee, or maybe a tray of munchies, is a thank you that can make their always busy days, a bit easier to negotiate. These great people have chosen giving of themselves as their profession. They deserve to be on the receiving end, sometimes, too.
Pay attention to special events. Maybe you can’t adopt of foster a dog. But, if you have a weekend or a spare evening, you can have a slumber party. An evening or two out of the kennel is so relaxing for these dogs. And your evaluation of how a pup does on his visit, helps FoDACC members work on the things an individual animal might need to be more adoptable.
There are also days where volunteers come down and take dogs out for a day on the town. Trips to local dog friendly pubs and restaurants let you parade potential adoptable dogs, adorned in ‘adopt me’ vests, in front of myriads of potential families.
Join us. We have fun doing this. You’ll meet some of the greatest people in this world. And, there is nothing like the feeling of seeing ear to ear grins, on the face of a family, as they put their little wiggly butted newest family member, into the car as they drive that innocent little soul to their best life ever.
