Waylon is healing up nicely, had a bit of swelling but went down fast with a jog in the round pen with Ruby. He’s nearly as tall as her already!

Little Waylon had a Big day today! Castration, wolf teeth, hernia repair, vaccines and wormer! He’s going to be one sad boy tomorrow. On the plus side he did really good loading and unloading from the trailer!

Really exciting things happening today! We (by which I mean mostly John 😉) finished the 45 foot high cube container for the horse pen! He cut out the one side and even used a piece of that to make a small grain/tack room at the end with the door. Now I don’t have to keep everything packed in my trailer tack room. He welded hoops onto each end to attach the panels too also. Eventually we’ll build pipe corrals and this will be split into three seperate long pens. But for now it’s nice to have somewhere for them to get out of the wind snow and rain!

We have a new addition to the family, meet Fiona! I had the pleasure of gentling and halter breaking both her parents, who we fell in love with. Now she’s here to stay!

Surprisingly Jo, who hates horses, actually really likes Fiona. It will be fun to see them grow together.

Ruby has also really taken to her too. Which is good because I plan on having her come on trail rides and just tag along.

Nice long 10 mile solo ride on ruby yesterday! She did great riding away from the house. Was a little antsy once we hit the last bit of the road home but over all she did great! It was nice to get out and just ride, not really have a goal in mind.

Big day for khaleesi! Sat on her without any fuss, bent her head around both ways and I’ll ask her for movement tomorrow! Ponied her down the highway too. She didn’t care about traffic, mailboxes or the field of heifers chasing us!

Second time saddled and still no buck so far. She’s doing pretty well giving to pressure and is less reactive to sounds and movement. Might be riding her before too long!

Took Khaleesi on her first walk around the property today, even with the stroller. She did great! When we initially walked out of her pen she forgot she was on a lead and started to walk away, but as soon as she felt the lead tug she came back. She’s so smart and quick to do as she’s asked!

Maddy, my bonus daughter, did so good putting her first ride on Vegas today! She was a champ hanging on and getting back on each time! I think I have a pretty good apprentice on my hands.

Vegas is a three year old mustang we got for Maddy to learn with and train this summer. If she shows the right potential, she’ll stay with us to be a good little mount for our little kids to grow up with.

These two did so good today!
I’ve been on ruby a few times ba****ck but today was the first time back under saddle. She did great, no rear no buck, even dragging Khaleesi at times.
Khaleesi did really good having me above her and learning how to be ponied. She also handled the scary tarp pretty well after a only couple escape attempts😆 She’s learning fast and will be under saddle before we know it!

Got khaleesi’s mane and tail brushed out finally. She was a champ, even with the detangling spray! She’s leading by her front feet now too. Hopefully we’ll be able to get those feet fixed up before too long.

Saddled Ruby, while she was tied, and left her to stand at the trailer by herself. I didn’t hear a peep out of her for the whole hour I worked with Khaleesi!

Look at Kaleesi move! She’s starting to relax and move her feet where and how fast she’s asked to, not just out of fear. She’s still pretty jump as you approach her left side but making progress. I can touch from cheek bone to rump on both sides now and brushed the lead rope around her sides today. We’re making progress!!

This girl is looking for a name! Kinda leaning towards Kahleesi, any other suggestions?
She’s a 5 year old grade fire breathing dragon😆. I love those big red mares with their intense personalities. She’s never been handled and I’m so excited to start this journey with her!

Woody is going to go home next week and hopefully find out if his bucking is a pain issue. He has a history of being a bit hu**ed up at the beginning of a ride but not bucking almost everytime he’s saddled like he is now. Just when you think he’s gotten over it, he bucks again. He’s such a sweetheart otherwise! Hopefully we can get this boy comfortable and out on the trails soon.

Donkeys are picking their feet up and starting to lead a little better!
The journey with Jenny and Penny has been slow but I’ve really enjoyed every bit of it. They have very different personalities and are so clever. We are really going to miss them when they go home!
