Our first litter is 8 weeks old! 😍

The Trip x Lava puppies have certainly been a dream to raise and we could not be more proud of how they have turned out.

We won't spend a lot of your time reading here, but rather share some of our favorite photos from this sweet, fun loving group!

Thank you Cassie Kindle of Affinity Australian Shepherds for allowing us to bring Lava to Trip as well as all your endless support with our first homebreds.

🌎 Welcome to the world! 🌎

In the wee hours of Jan 17th, exactly 4 years after her first litter, Lava whelped a stunning set of puppies to close out her breeding career.

I’m truly without words to express how fortunate we are to have such a generous mentor in Corey Michael Hayes who along with J Kelsey Jones allowed us to co breed this litter. Lava came to “vacation” with us a year and a half ago and she has become an irreplaceable part of our family. To be allowed to co-breed her last litter with our friends is a blessing far beyond our wildest dreams when we set out to become stewards of the Australian Shepherd breed.

With Corey on the phone and Lava in the box, Jason and I were well taken care of and the hours passed smoothly. It was the best possible experience for our first solo whelp at home. Now we know what constitutes a successful delivery and a perfect mother - gold standard.

The result? Nine BEAUTIFUL puppies that literally take our breath away.

Special thanks to Cassie Kindle who allowed us to bring Lava to Trip and also provided us with guidance and encouragement.

More to come as they grow, but we welcome to the world the first generation of Whiskey Ridge Aussies with love and gratitude.

Jason and I try our best to savor the firsts but this one is probably the most special. Words cannot express how utterly excited we are to announce the first CHAMPION for Whiskey Ridge Aussies!

Shine finished his championship today with his third Major as WD in Doswell, VA under judge Betsy Humer.

These two letters would not have happened without Corey Michael Hayes who not only bred and co-owns Shine with us, but has encouraged, mentored, dreamed alongside, and supported our every step into Aussies. We had and still have so much to learn and Corey’s generosity (and patience!) is nothing short of amazing. We are so SO grateful for his guidance and his (and J Kelsey Jones’s) amazing programs on which our foundations are laid upon. This is truly a life changing friendship.

Endless thanks are due to David Welsh who expertly guided Shine to his championship in less than a month. We had no doubt from the moment David met Shine that it was the best possible match. Thank you David for believing in this dog and making this dream of ours come true!

Shine is our treasured family member, gateway drug, and foundation.

We love you so much, Shine Puppy. We are so proud of you!

Could not be prouder of Shine today who strutted his stuff and was shortlisted in the top 6 by judge Michael Faulkner in a fantastic class of Open Black Dogs at the USASA Nationals.

David Welsh did an absolutely phenomenal job and they look like a well oiled team already!

Really proud of how this dog has matured in the last year and love where he’s headed.

Great job Shine Puppy! ✨❤️

Today is Shine’s 2nd birthday. He had great morning with Bethany in Florida getting his birthday pup cup and a trip to the pet store to pick out birthday treats and a new toy.
We can never thank Corey Michael Hayes enough for making us a part of the Emerald View family by letting us take this sweet boy home.
We are so happy to have him as a part of our family and can’t wait for the many adventures ahead. We love our happy boy.

Welcome to Whiskey Ridge!

While the future is bright, it’s lit by the past. So before we populate this page with the road ahead, let’s reflect on the journey we’ve taken thus far.

Part 1 - Whiskey

As any good story does, it starts with a dog.

My dog - Whiskey.

He’s a massive, poorly constructed physical representative of the breed with terrible hips, east/west stance, and a collie like face.

But I didn’t know anything about pet vs show quality, standards, and panels in 2013.

All I knew is I wanted a companion - my first dog as an adult.

What he lacked physically from the standard, he made up for in temperament.

Whiskey was the only male to run straight towards me when I visited the litter while the others fell victim to puppy distractions. He fell asleep on my foot while I signed the paperwork. And before I left the driveway, he already had my whole heart.

He was a library reading dog for shy children, an obedience demo dog for intermediate classes, was in Modern Dog Magazine, and had a regular following on social media which earned him a few gigs for companies like Chewy and Barkbox. Someone even recognized him while walking around the Navy Pier in Chicago!

He earned his CGC and TKA, tried dock diving and herding (both really well but far to drive to from where I lived to stay with it regularly), traveled to countless states with me and was (and still is) the “trust with any child or person in a public setting” kind of dog.

Most importantly, he was my rock and companion through the toughest times of my life - when I was divorced and living on my own it was just me and him for 3 years before marrying Jason and moving across country.

In 2019 I finally gave Whiskey what I always wanted - a farm. He has enjoyed farm dog life ever since.

Every day he showed up for me, every chance someone stopped me to pet him because he was so handsome with his symmetrical markings, every time he was patient with a child, every time he learned a new trick in an hour - only served to ramp up my love and interest in the breed.

My life will always have an Aussie in it because of his unfailing companionship. And my heart will always belong to the dog we honor in our name.

The world needs more dogs like Whiskey. We aim to make that happen.
