One adoption in particular was very special to the staff at Riverside. This dog has lived at Riverside for over 4 years and has saved countless lives by being a blood donor. She was retired due to her age.
This was a bittersweet adoption. We hate to see her go, but LOVED seeing her reaction to breaking free and going home with a very special lady.
On a side note: many people thought that we were putting an expiration date on the strays. That is NOT the case. Dogs like ‘Big Mama’ are dropped off FOR euthanization, but we opt to keep them around for a chance at a better life. With that being said, our intentions were not to euthanize but to give these dogs a better, healthier chance at life. Us being at full capacity was not a nuance to euthanization; with so many dogs in one area they are so much more prone to sickness therefore we do our BEST to keep them protected but can only do so much.
Again, we are very thankful for all of the support from our local community and appreciate your endeavors to give these dogs a happier life.
Nigel 💙
This is Nigel. He was dropped off to be euthanized, but he was just too sweet not to try and save. He had a lot of hook, round, and coccidia parasites, plus a nasty bacterial infection and ringworms to top that off. Now after about 3 weeks of medication, TLC, and Dr.Cleves cow field therapy (exercise, sunlight, and grass) he is finally able to be adopted. He’s had 2 vaccinations for parvo, and will be due for more in about a week. He’s eating well, and is a happy little boy. He needs a forever home, I want to be specific on who adopts him due to the time, care, and funds I have invested in him.
