Update: Frankie has been adopted! We have a special needs pup that we desperately need to get out of the shelter. Meet Frankie! He’s such a sweet and loving boy. He just suddenly lost use of his back legs for no obvious reason and it was determined that he had a herniated disc in his back which can sometimes be an issue in this breed. We had surgery done on his back at a specialty vet in Dothan as he is a young dog and had a very good chance of full recovery. Unfortunately he did not have the full recovery we had hoped for. He has some movement at times in his back legs but cannot bear weight on them or walk. He had a great foster whom he lived with after his surgery but she was unable to keep him long term so he is back with us now. He has a cart we got for him so he can get around (video in comments) and he loves to get in his cart and go for walks. He’s very small, about 10lbs, so easy to lift. We have so so much invested in this awesome guy emotionally, physically and financially but we just cannot give him what he needs at the shelter. We had a potential adopter but that fell through. If anyone is interested in fostering or adopting Frankie please give us a call (334)792-6693 or come by to meet him and discuss care required! He needs someone who is not gone from home very long periods of time and is devoted to working with him! Someone please give this awesome little guy a chance. We just love him so much! ❤️❤️❤️

Is your dog one of the 15-30% that suffers from thunderstorm related anxiety? We're here to help! 🌩

Stay up to date on weather forecasts. Pets often pick up on incoming adverse weather before we can. Being proactive can make a world of difference.

Offer your pet a dark, calm area in the interior of your home. Use TV or music as background noise to lessen the impact of loud thunderclaps. It is also important to remember to keep the door to that area open. Feeling "trapped" can often worsen anxiety.

Try a thunder shirt! There are many kinds of light compression dog shirts online. This can make your dog feel comforted and safe, but it isn’t for every dog. As with any new toy or accessory, it’s highly recommended that you supervise your pet while they wear this.

Talk with us! We can offer advice on other tips, calming supplements, or decide if your dog is a good candidate for anti-anxiety medicine.
