First off, forgive the pajamas; it's Sunday. Kaskae is getting to be such a big smart boy at 5 months old! Training not shown in this video that he also knows is "leave it", to sit and wait to be told to cross door thresholds when coming in or out, to ring his bells when he needs out, and to jump into the truck.

Well we got their pen mostly up, but we weren't able to finish it today because of the weather and loss of daylight. The babies will be moved out into their pen tomorrow for sure though! In the meantime I decided to start testing the social waters with them. Most have decided it's bedtime, but this little girl was willing to give me a chance. One of the best ways to start a brand new social bonding experience is to treat them like the prey animals they are. Although you can't see me I removed all eye contact during this interaction and used the camera as my "eyes" so that I never placed full eye contact. The low light and quiet space also work in my favor to reduce stress and make them more willing to explore new experiences. Then you'll see the slow approach and quick retreat motions I make and the curiosity this initiates in this little girl. Prey animals will very slowly approach new situations out of caution and will quickly retreat to known safety as they investigate if the new item/animal/person/ect is safe. PREDATORS DO NOT RETREAT the same way prey do. That is a big indicator to her that I'm not a threat to her. Spending time just sitting with no eye contact as they approach and retreat is another good way to start that new social interaction due to the same reasons I listed above. This all takes as much time as the individual needs, and CANNOT under ANY circumstances be rushed. TRUST TAKES TIME!!
