It was Jamie that recommended Delta Color Copy, "Roxie" to me. He stated she would be the perfect horse for me. He was right!!! I knew I needed help after buying a cow horse. Jamie was to be that help. As an older/timid rider diving into a totally different discipline, Jamie and Jenny have given me the confidence to not only become a better rider but tackle the cattle classes. Roxie has done her part to make me a better rider. Nothing is free with her but she is awesomely patient. I consider myself very lucky to be in such good hands with Jamie, Jenny and Miss Roxie as I pursue showing for hopefully many years to come. Many thanks to you guys for also taking great care of Roxie at Haven Ridge Farm.

I have been a horse owner for 20+ years, primarily trail riding and attending clinics to improve my horsemanship. A few years ago, I became interested in ranch riding and showing. I purchased my mare, Chica, took some lessons, attended a few clinics and started attending IRHA shows. Without a show coach, my first season was really hard. It is no fun to try a class and fail. It's not easy to go look at your score card and see once again..."DQ" disqualified. It's hard to put yourself out there with others who are really good. My bundle of nerves, lack of show experience, along with my mare’s show pen anxiety was just not working. Over and over, I questioned my abilities and considered giving up. Despite these moments, I decided I would not let myself give up something I really wanted to learn. In 2021, I heard about the Haven Ridge ranch clinics and decided to sign up and give it another try. Jamie and Jenny are a wealth of information about how to show in the ranch classes. It was great to get individual help and honest feedback. After these clinics, I began taking weekly lessons with Jamie and Jenny. These lessons gave me the confidence and tools I needed to work towards my goals. Little by little, Chica and I started having some success and began placing in the novice amatuer ranch riding classes. We still have a long way to go, but I am excited that we are moving in the right direction! I am so grateful for being so graciously included in the Haven Ridge family and love all the friendship and good times we share.

Aside from my horse life, my husband, Kevin and I, live on a small hobby farm near Thorntown, IN. We have three grown children and a brand new grandson. I am a preschool teacher, and enjoy reading, art, playing my guitar, and hosting family gatherings.

Haven Ridge Farms rider of the week

About 10 years ago we started hauling our niece to ARHA shows. After a few years I thought I'd like to try that. Never having shown a horse before it was a challenge! We started training with Jamie and Jenny at Haven Ridge Farms and it all started to come together. Now thanks to wonderful coaching and my awesome horse cowboy, we've become more competitive. We had a great year in 2021 and our goal for 2022 is to top that.

Heaven Ridge Farms was in Memphis TN. this weekend at the VoLRHA and NRCHA show.
We had a weekend of fun and improvements.

Stacy Woodyard and Ruby AKA Rooster Redfeather had some great moves in herd word. They also showed well in the Box-drive box class placing third. In Select boxing she placed second.

Ryan Yocum and Violet Aka CCR Bet Sheza Star
Had some nice runs in the NRCHA intermidiate placing 4th, and the limited placing Second.

Brittney Noelle and Mario Aka Spooky Ice.
First in conformation and Second in showmanship.

Jamie Feuquay and Zac AKA Better Bamacat Placed first in Herd work. Saturday in the Limited Hackamore the finished third. Sunday they placed First in the Limited Hackamore.

Heaven Ridge Farms Rider of the week.

Over the last year and a half, I've been at Haven Ridge Farms on a regular basis. I have weekly lessons and practice what I've learned multiple times per week. I've invested my efforts with Haven Ridge and they have invested in me. I'm very proud of my horsemanship and riding improvements over this time. Last year I participated in a couple of ARHA shows and this year I'm going to participate in several. While I hope to show well, my goal is to become the best horseman I am capable of becoming. I'm thoroughly enjoying this journey and look forward to where it leads me.

I have been riding and showing horses with ARHA since I was nine years old. My aunt and uncle were the people who helped me discover my passion for horses at a young age, and we’ve been hauling horses around to shows ever since. My family started riding with Haven Ridge about three years ago. During this time, I have had a successful show career with the two horses that I have shown, Cowboy and Boogie. A highlight from this past show season is that Boogie and I ended up being the Reserve Youth Top Performance Horse in IRHA. Boogie was my “project horse,” and to be able to accomplish something like this was very exciting. My goals for this show season include improving my boxing score and placing consistently in the top 10 for my first year in the amateur division!

I asked Jamie for lessons last spring to build my confidence after falling off my retired gelding while trail riding. Jamie helped me get back to the basics, pushed me outside my comfort zone and convinced me I could go fast on a horse. My husband started showing with Haven Ridge last year and I thought the reining classes looked the most fun. After I decided I wanted to show at the ARHA shows this year too, Jamie and Jenny found a great match for me and we bought Mario at the beginning of December. I am proud of myself that in just a few months I am already practicing (fast!) run downs and sliding stops. My goals for the year are to continue to build my confidence at the shows and for Mario and I keep learning together. A really cool sliding stop picture, a belt buckle and beating Ryan in a few classes might be on that list as well!

My wife saw a Facebook Ad about a cattle clinic at Haven Ridge and thought it would be a fun idea to take a couple of our newer horses for the weekend. I had never shown before, and frankly didn't have any desire to show before attending the clinic. 3 weeks later I purchased my 1st show horse and we started showing ARHA and learning the ropes. In a short amount of time, and lots of practice, we were able to place 3rd in boxing and 7th in ranch rutting at the world's show. This month marks my 1 year anniversary from the clinic and looking forward to successful show season and qualifying for NRCHA Celebration of Champions.
