Staying warm? Hope so! As a reminder, Texas does have a law “Safe Outdoors Act” that was implemented in 2022. Read below.

Starting in January of 2022, Texas law now mandates that pets be provided with adequate shelter from the elements, including extreme cold and rain. Even with their fur coats, our pets still need protection from the cold weather. The safest and best thing we can do for our pets is to bring them inside when temperatures plummet. If your dog or cat isn’t usually an indoor pet, even a bathroom or a garage is better than leaving them exposed to the weather, especially overnight.

If there is absolutely no way to bring them in your home, then it is imperative that you provide an insulated structure with a roof, an elevated floor, and at least three sides to shelter your pets from wind and rain or snow. While blankets seem like a warm option, wet and cold can combine to make them dangerous to your pet’s body temperature. Straw (not hay!) is a cheap and readily available insulating option. Per the new law, the structure must have “dimensions that allow the dog while in the shelter to stand erect, sit, turn around, and lie down in a normal position.” (Read the entire law here:https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/legbills/files/C387/SB5.pdf

Stay safe, protect each other and pets, and do not hesitate to contact Animal Control if needed.

Brrr, it's about to get ridiculously cold in Duncanville! From Sunday, January 5th to Saturday, January 11th, we're talking chilly weather 🥶. Don't be a party pooper, keep your furry friends safe! Limit their outside time, dress them up in protective gear, and provide a warm shelter if they must stay outside. Monitor their time spent outdoors, ensure they have access to fresh water, and never leave them alone in a car during cold weather. Animal Control will be on duty, so if you need assistance or see an animal in distress, call 972-223-6111 option 4. Stay warm, folks! ❤️💙

📢 Animal Control Officer Assists in Rescuing Senior Dog

On 12/27/24, Animal Control Officer N. Cherry responded to assist the City of Duncanville with an animal welfare check involving a senior dog that had fallen into a creek and become stuck.

Upon arrival, the dog was found at the bottom of the creek, clearly dehydrated and in need of immediate help. Thanks to the teamwork of Animal Control Officer Cherry and the Duncanville Fire Department, the dog was safely removed from the creek and transported to the Tri-City Animal Shelter for care.

The dog’s owner was located shortly after, and we’re happy to share that the dog has since been reunited with its family and is now safe at home.

We’re proud of our team for their dedication to keeping both pets and people in our communities safe! 🐾

Excellent video from Deer Park Animal Shelter

Please watch before making that impulsive decision during the holidays. Yes, I agree those puppies are adorable and how can you turn them down?! 🥰 BUT, are you ready for the commitment and time spent with them?

Adopting at Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center is wonderful and highly encouraged but be prepared for your new companions inside the house. Happy Holidays Duncanville! 🐾❤️💙
