There are so many woolly bear caterpillars on the farmstead! Unfortunately we've seen many different colors and band sizes to make an accurate old wives tale decision about winter 😅

Yesterday was not a fun day!

We lost power in majority of the farmstead so Steele Waseca came out to trouble shoot. It turned out that a part in the electric box, which was waaaay up at the top of the power pole, was broken. So we called Cole's Electric to come fix what the linemen weren't allowed to mess with. After they fixed it, Steele Waseca came back and connected our power again. The whole day was wasted on electrical issues 😭

Today unfortunately we lost power in the barn. Nate is working on restoring it but it's not fun doing chores with a headlamp or flashlight! The animals aren't too thrilled either!

Make sure to check all your electrical things that you can handle or reach. Like Nate said yesterday, better it happened now instead of in the middle of winter with below zero weather!

A plus side to this whole thing! The Feral Daughter decided to add lineman to her future job list 🤣

Mootilda is home!!

After spending a few months at Pressnall Family Miniatures with their extremely handsome miniature bull Little Al, Mootilda is home and hopefully pregnant! She wasn't too happy to come home but when she got home she was so excited to see all her friends and meet the new additions! She was also happy to see her feral child ❤️

We want to give a big thank you to the young man and young woman in a truck on Highway 3 in Northfield for letting us move over when we were puttering along behind a combine. Travelling is stressful and we wanted to get Mootilda home safe and sound without too much stress. Their consideration made the drive much easier! So thank you again kind strangers!

Look at that beautiful cement!

The gutter is completely filled, the chickens are confused, the cats are mad, and we're all happy it's over 🤣 Now our older goats can get in and out of the pens easier and it'll be easier to get in with our skid steer to clean.

What happens when you go to get a new breeding ram?

You end up bringing a pony home too!

This weekend Sam and Julie went to pick up a new breeding ram. He's a stunning Dorper who needs to lose a pound or two but breeding season will see that done! DJ our other ram is going to Thistle Creek Farms to woo their ladies for the breeding season so don't worry! He'll still be around 😁

What wasn't expected was for Julie and Feral Daughter to fall in love with a sweet little pony mare named Gypsy. The owner had been debating on cutting back on her critters so the two adults agreed and Feral came home with a sweetie pie! Sometimes it pays to bring extra cash in case you stumble on a new friend 🥰

Did you know we have a peacock?!

Peabody, currently s*x unknown, was given to Feral Daughter as a birthday gift. Now Peabody roams the farmstead with the ducks and geese. Sometimes it pops out of nowhere and startles us! Darn bird haha!

At the September Waverly swap we got two new geese, a Saddleback pair!

We also got two other geese the June swap, a Pomeranian cross and a Cabbage Patch cross!

Right now they are locked in the yard for their safety. It's goose season in our area and we'd rather not have anyone thinking they're snow geese to shoot. They clearly aren't but you never know what folks are thinking! The geese are NOT happy with us but it's either the yard or the goat yard!

On that note, happy hunting everyone who is bow hunting and goose hunting! Just don't think domestic geese are somehow a strange Canadian goose 😅

We were busy today!

It took 55 bags but we managed to fill in the gutter that has been on the work list for a couple of years! Thistle Creek Farms came over to help with the last half and it was much appreciated help!

We cannot wait to share what it'll look like when it's all cured!

Waverly Swap was this past weekend and we came home with some goodies! Bandit here is one of them!

Bandit and his lady Chili (not pictured)) are blue slate turkeys! Both are such mellow turkeys which is a characteristic of the breed. We cannot wait for next year's nesting season to get babies from this pair! Maybe we'll even add another hen 😱

Today has been a sad day.

After many wonderful years, our oldest ewe Clementine passed away in her sleep. She was snuggled into her favorite napping spot by the hay feeder. It looks like she went very peacefully.

We laid her to rest in the back of the hay field where she can return to the earth that grew the nourishing hay she enjoyed for years.

Rest in peace our wonderful old gal
