Today we are sharing some very sad news.

A beloved family member Brad Tupa, Nate and Julie's nephew and Sam's cousin, passed away overseas at his home last week. We don't know much about the situation but we do know it is currently a struggle to bring his remains home for his family to properly say goodbye.

Brad was an amazing young man. He was kind to everyone, could always make people laugh, and loved with his entire being. You could never forget him even if only meeting him for a few moments. So many people from around the world knew him from not only his work but also from his young wrestling career.

One of the fondest memories we have was Brad being a protective older cousin to Sam when she started riding the bus to school. He'd always have her sit with him so she wasn't scared or feel alone. That compassion continued on through his life.

This isn't something we ask but we hope everyone understands. Right now his young sister, his parents, his wife, and his friends are trying to raise money to bring his remains home. It is a struggle, especially with the cost to bring him home from an international location.

If anyone could donate anything to their GoFundMe, where you can read more about Brad and his life, we'd all be grateful.

We are sorry if this seems jumbled. It's a very hard thing to write about and even harder to accept for all of us. Please be considerate and kind during this time.

Have you ever sat there, looking at your screen, and wondered "what are they talking about? Hair sheep? What is that?"

We're glad you asked!

Hair sheep are primitive breeds of sheep that shed their thick winter hair instead of needing to be sheared. They don't really have wool like other sheep, just a super thick coat like a dog! So if you like sheep but don't want to struggle with scheduling a shearer or shearing yourself, think about hair sheep!

They are typically a meat breed though you could use them for milking. All breeds of hair sheep have nice thick bodies with lambs growing fast. Since they don't have to worry about producing wool, they put all the excess calories into their weight.

Now sometimes there are hair sheep that have a hard time shedding. One way to fix this is to have spots where they can rub. They need to be able to rub off their excess hair but some need a better rubbing spot than others. Looking at you, Razzy. She's one of our hair sheep ewes who always has trouble shedding but none of her lambs ever do. Genetics are weird!

The rams are cool as well! Most breeds grow what we call a mane, long hair on their chest and part of their neck. Our Katahdin ram DJ will get a cool mane once he's older.

Hair sheep come in a variety of colors. Right now we have paint, chocolate, black, and the normal white in our hair flock. But there are some breeds that look like the typical black headed white bodies wool sheep breeds only they're hair!

So when you see us talking about hair sheep, hear someone talking about hair sheep, or see some weird looking sheep that don't look like typical wooly sheep, you'll know what hair sheep are!

Enjoy a picture of one of our adorable hair lambs from this year! And a donkey photo bomb butt haha!

Can you spot Cloud's foster babies??

Our friends at Snediker Farms had a doe give birth during the hot spell last week! She didn't prepare a nest and was not interested in the little bunnies so we took some of them to put with our Mini Rex doe Cloud to raise since she only had two babies.

We won't lie, the first few days of checking were nerve wracking!! Every time we held our breaths to anxiously feel how many little bunnies were wiggling about. And every time we gave a huge sigh of relief finding everyone doing well. Now that they are older, we've been peeking in to see how their growth is!

Mama Cloud is getting some of the best treatment! While all our does get excellent treatment when they have baby bunnies (kits), we give extra attention to any does with a larger than average litter or fostering other kits. Cloud's birthing pen mate, Winona, also had kits but her litter was way too big to be a foster mom! However she has fostered in the past for us which is why we always like to breed her the same time a first time doe is being bred. Now Cloud gets to join that special group!

So let's give Cloud the Mini Rex foster mom three cheers for being such a good mom and taking such good care of not only her babies but her foster babies as well!

**Fun fact, rabbit nest boxes usually have high sides so when the mom jumps out after feeding them, the edge helps pull off any naughty lots who want to stay latched. This keeps them safe and gives mom a break. That is until the kits can escape the nest box!

Unfortunately we are moving our focus to hair sheep and large wool sheep so our family of four Babydoll cross ewes are looking for a new flock. It is a four generation family with the youngest having her first lamb this year. All four are excellent mothers and put the weight on their lambs!

Their lambs will be moved separately to new flocks unless you want them to join the family! Unfortunately they are all ram lambs and we do plan on wethering them during the cool down this week.

Now if you want to bring them home, make sure to check how far you are from us! There's nothing worse than eagerly wanting to bring a critter home only to find out it's too far away 😭

We are south of the Twin Cities near Dundas, MN!

(Just to add, the red dots on their bums is just to ID the ones moving along, it's just some RedKote)

We told you all it's darn near impossible to get pictures of goats kids! However with the main herd moved out in the front pasture this afternoon, a lot of the kids and lambs got confused and refused to leave the pens. A perfect chance!

All the Kiko and Kiko cross bucklings will be ready for new herds next week! The ram lambs have a couple more weeks but they'll be ready to go as well! We still need to go through the ewe lambs to pick who we're keeping back so stay tuned for those updates! We'll also be posting about the Kiko breed in the next few days for you to decide if it's a good fit for you.

Be sure to check how far you are from the farmstead before messaging us. There's nothing worse than wanting a cute goat only to realize it's a six hour drive one way 😱

We are located south of the Twin Cities near Dundas, MN. You can use the Map option in the about section to get an idea of where we are!

Why do kids always think fingers are edible?

One of our show goat's twins always likes to nibble on fingers. He is a sweetie, always wanting attention! Maybe his future farm will keep him as a pet!

Everyone, give Captain Jack Sparrow a warm welcome to the farmstead!

We got him yesterday from T and C Poultry in Faribault! So the drive home through town with him in the back of the truck, peeking at everyone, was amusing. He was very curious about all the sights.

So far our hen Princess isn't too interested but she has been chatting with him in turkey talk. Our fingers are crossed!

And with that, birthing season is a wrap!

For the goats we had two girls and a crazy amount of boys!

For the sheep we had three girls and another crazy amount of boys!

The Herefords kept it mellow with two heifers and three bulls.

Overall, this birthing season was wild! We had a new spring birthing timeframe for the goats and sheep while the cows were still on their spring schedule. Come August, the bucks and ram will be pulled out while we schedule for a bull to visit the Herefords.

Our calendar has been busy and will stay busy!
