New Year, New Balance.

In 2024, we focused on building our business and the opening of the new facility. In 2025, we have new goals to achieve!

A large goal being our Puppy Head Start Program. We created this program in hopes to bridge a gap between a board & train program and daycare services. This is an affordable option & spans a longer period of time than the traditional board & train program. Send us a message for more information!

In addition, work/life balance!
We work from home & this is a huge perk that we have always strived for. Our business requires us to be working 24/7, 365: we always have dogs in our care. Even though we absolutely love what we do, we do need time off & as we are growing, even our day to day tasks needs an extra set of hands.
In order to continue to run smoothly, this year, you will see more of Heather. From covering our travel, to stepping in & helping run play groups, answer phones, emails. Please give her a warm welcome!

We have always informed clients when Heather will be covering our absence at the time of their reservation. Since her role is growing, we are forgoing the alert. Therefore, allowing us to have more flexibility in our schedules and allows Heather to have a more active role at SRR. As always, thank you for entrusting us to care for your pets & Heather alike!

Puppies are SO easy!

Yup, I said it.

We absolutely love training puppies….puppies under 5 months old that is!

After this age, yeah, maybe not so easy anymore, for multiple reasons. BUT if we can capture and reward & repeat these good behaviors, we create a solid foundation. A foundation that can be referred back to as needed & advance training for the future.

Puppies are small & so impressionable & willing to please, it makes training easy & fun.

VS. skipped training & by 6 months old, the puppy has learned doing “naughty” behaviors are more rewarding, like pulling, jumping during greetings, chewing, oh and probably growing like a w**d and 3x the size they were from 12 weeks old. 😅 It is MUCH harder.

Today, I took a 15 week old puppy, with 3 wild boy children to get horse bedding in a busy store. (Oh and train said puppy and have one of said wild children video record & hope nobody gives you weird looks 🤪)

So thankful we had a nice foundation, I would have lost my mind without it.
Instead I left being so proud of this boy. (to the point, I’m thinking he could just stay forever 😅)

If anyone is thinking of adding a puppy, please choose a time you will be able to dedicate proper time to training. It will make all the difference.

Helpful hint: puppy training cost is cheaper than training an adult dog, because it is EASIER! Send us your puppies! (or it may cost you further down the road!)

I haven’t had the pleasure to meet Shine. She sounds amazing. The dogs with “special requirements or corks”. I have found to be the most rewarding.

All I know is what is shared in this post.

A dog I’ve never met, but I have witness the same behaviors described, often the dogs I share stories about.

So what does it look like to potentially adopt Shine?

Here are a few of the guidelines & training exercises that would likely help set her up for success.

-A Behavioral Veterinarian Evaluation
-Medication

Positive Based Training:
-Muzzle Training
-Counter Conditioning to triggers: Working for eye contact
-Arousal & Impulse control exercises: Leave it, Jazz up/settle, Sit/Stay, incorporated into play.
-Secure fencing/Kept on leash
-Proper supervision, exercise & mental enrichment
-No animal interactions.

Okay, so this means training and management. To some, Shine’s case is relatively considered “moderate management” and to others it may be considered “high management”.

In my professional opinion, it is NOT a requirement for dogs to like other dogs or animals. The fact of the matter is Shine CAN be managed (like listed above), just depends if someone is capable and willing!

Thank you Hard Licker Ranch and Sanctuary for all of your hard work and dedication to all dogs, including Shine. And having her best interest in mind, always.

We’ve laid a great foundation working on eye contact at home and expanded into a new environment today! Passed with flying colors. Heard sirens, loud cars and music. Didn’t have him miss a beat!

First, thank you for taking the time to get and know us at SRR. We are a small locally owned business, servicing the local community. My name is Chelsea, I originally started SRR after completing the Equine and Canine Massage program from Equissage in Round Hill, Va. Since I have completed further certification programs such as Animal Behavioral College for Dog Training. My goal as a local trainer is to give more POSITIVE structure inside the home and place YOU back in the LEADERSHIP role without any harsh correction methods & live a more balanced relationship with your four legged family members.

At SRR we offer several different services- Horse/Dog massages, Private dog training lessons & group classes- at affordable prices. Being a strong believer in fostering and rescuing dogs, it can be difficult in just taking on a new dog, being able to afford training shouldn't be a stressor- so I strive to be affordable. Group classes will be offered in Spring/Summer/Fall- weather permitting, contact me further for scheduling.
